How exactly are Iron Golems aggravated? Could they be used as a defense system against players as well as mobs? I'm looking to add them to my project (spawners) and wanted to know if I could get them to go after enemy players too. Any thoughts?

That is still a good amount of defense.
I mean their not bad to have a few roaming around your base, not to mention make it a little less of a ghost town (if were in singleplayer)
I wouldn't bother.. (personally) everytime I spawn a iron golem they walk away xD!
Thats why you trap them, anyway they will only attack a player if the player attacks them so... your better off making a cow cannon to kill intruders.
Anyway another cool defense is to use snow golems and pile them in one spot, although they dont do damage it sure is funny.
You could cram loads of villagers into your outer wall so that people have to push through them to get in. They'll eventually hit one out of recklessness, and the Golem will come after them.
Wouldn't putting a fence around the area simply defeat the purpose of defense? It wouldn't allow any mobs to enter; therefore, not allowing the iron golem to kill anything. Or do the mobs spawn within the boundaries created by the fence?
Used to have tons of golemns in my old server, and well they like to wander and pick flowers a bit too much... if you have a small area needed to protect they are good if you fence them in but imo never were a great source of protection. I like having a pack of wolves
Iron golems will attack mobs that arent agrrowed, by a player otherwise. But to mention there are 2 types of iron golems and are somewhat different. The first one is the one that you can make with 4 iron blocks and a pumkin. The second type is one that spawns in a village with i think at least 16 members in it. These iron goems will specifically protect the villagers but can be moved for your own purpose. The iron golems that spawn in villages will attack the player(s) if harmed or villagers are harmed. These guys are brutal and keep a grudge. If you are looking for a cheap way to get iron golems, then make your own villagee and add doors to it and get iron golems spawned from the village. Then you can move them around with leads, and yes this does work... i tested it. Both iron golems will attack mobs but village spawned ones will also protect a village, keep that in mind. Iron golems that you spawn yourself will not attack other players as well as other iron golems. HOPE THIS HELPS U!!!!!

They won't kill creepers.
OP: They will kill any hostile mob (except creepers) upon sight of the mob. You don't have to do anything special.

Might it be possible to make some kind of trap that fires an arrow into a villager that is locked in place, thus aggravating the golem?
just tested this, no one gets attacked by the golem, it just continues walking around /: its a shame, it was such a genius idea!
this is exactly what I was planning... too bad it didn't work :/
