Hey this is minecraft. It's not known for completely bug-free gameplay.
Maybe there was supposed to be another village, but the game overwrote it and just left the villagers.

I know that minecraft is not completely bug free. That's why I want to know why this bug is happening.
Again, thanks for suggesting ways to kill villagers but I already have enough methods to do so. What I need right now is a logical explanation and maybe a solution to the villagers breeding too rapidly.
the people from my village all died D: but a spawn a couple back :3
How do they "spawn" if they all died? I thought villagers populate by breeding which makes children... If there is no villager, how does one breed a villager?
Maybe there's a stronghold under the village?
Like, a part with a LOT of doors.
Possible explanation but I highly doubt it because I've explored a huge cave system underneath the village and there doesn't seem to be any strongholds.
Perhaps there's like a "Client side" glitch or whatever. As I said before, Minecraft is NOT a bug-free game, and SMP is only buggier. Maybe there are several villagers which only you can see, and the same for your cousin.
These 'invisible' villagers would be able to repopulate, but you wouldn't see them.
Only a guess, but it does seem plausible.
I'm on a vanilla multi-player server and I have the exact same problem. I have tried multiple times to just kill most of the villagers but that hasn't worked. I am not sure why they are breeding so heavily, but I have several houses that are so full of them that no one can get anywhere, not even the villagers, and still, they breed.
I really hope this bug is fixed soon, it takes away allot of the good things I could feel for my village.
Tonight I killed a bunch of them again and took down almost all of the doors in the area. I know for sure that what the wiki says about .35 villager for every door is not what happened in my village. anyway, I hope that this is a solution for me, although when I logged off they were still breeding /: I also noticed that there are certain buildings that they prefer for some reason, but when I took the doors off of those they would go for buildings they had rarely gone in before.
I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
for now, i'd suggest putting an iron door on all the buildings you dont want over run, that and piston doors are what has kept me from burning down the village.
Turn yourself to gamemode 1 right... set the difficulty to hardcore right ,then spawn 20 zombies with the eggs right then let the fight go on for a bit. After that make sure none of you are using spawn eggs and iron and pumpkins... Then spawn a creeper right... then make lightning strike it right... then punch it at the village center. That should fix the village. If it doesn't then there are other ways to kill 50 villagers and 7 iron golems...
Things far away don't update. Time only passes in a small radius around your little Lego man. So as long as you stay away, the villagers are frozen in time.
I went and hung out in a nearby village for about 20-30 days (MC time) and the population exploded. At the time, I was "improving" their houses, but the net number of doors went down, not up.
I think it's a glitch. The Wiki says the villagers should spawn/despawn until they fit their village just right, but I think they left out the despawn code. If I'm right, then in v.1.2.4 the only way to have the population not explode is just stay the hell away from the village. Admire it from a distance.
But I'm going to turn mine into an overcrowded prison.
Is there a stronghold nearby? From what I read on the thread, (rhyme!) this is multiplayer, so give yourself some Eyes of Ender and see if there's a stronghold nearby.
What does a Stronghold have to do with anything?
Anyway, you'll need some clever way to kill of the Testificates without p***ing of the Iron Golems.

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?
The ultimate problem to solving your runaway overpopulation problems.
Note: May cause some undesired terrain damage.
This server version is 1.2.4. And I'm using vanilla.

If that really is coming out, I hope it comes asap. (Hopefully earlier than April 4th)
