The Minecraft Journey
Introduction:
Created in InfDev (ver. June 18th, 2010) on May 29th, 2018, this is a world I plan on upgrading from the earliest possible version of Minecraft to the current version. I started this world because I wanted an interesting challenge and it allowed me to explore the versions of Minecraft I haven't played. This will most likely end up being the longest I stay on a single world as well as I usually don't keep my worlds around for too long.
Q&A:
Q: Why did you start on Infdev?
A: Infdev is the earliest version of Minecraft you can start on that allows you to easily convert it up to the most current version. I started this world on the June 18th, 2010 version of Infdev, the same (and only version of Infdev) version that is in the Minecraft Launcher. Indev, a version that predates Infdev, could potentially work as well but would require the use of McEdit or other 3rd party programs. Since I have no interest in using McEdit or searching the internet for versions not in the launcher, I decided this version of InfDev would be the perfect starting point.
Q: Will you be using any mods, texture packs, glitches or bugs?
A: The only mod I will use is Optifine for obvious reasons.. I will start using texture packs down the line. I will only use glitches and bugs that are harmless and give me no advantages. An example of this is the triple chest glitch I used in Beta 1.4_01. I will not be utilizing any duplication or X-Ray glitches.
Q: How long will you be staying on each version?
A: The amount of time I spend on each update varies each time. Sometimes, I spend as little as a month on an update and other times, I spend 6 months before I decide to update.
Q: Why do you skip some updates?
A: This world was not created to play literally every single update of Minecraft. It would be extremely mundane to do so because a lot of the Alpha and Beta updates are small additions and bug fixes. Instead, I skip around and find major updates to upgrade to so it feels significant and rewarding. The last update I plan on skipping is Official Release 1.1. After that, I will play every single main update of Minecraft.
Q: How did you get sound on old versions?
A: I couldn't find a way to get sound on InfDev so that was played with complete silence. Luckily, from my previous playthrough, I managed to snag resources for Alpha 1.1.2_01 and Alpha 1.2.6 before Mojang removed the old sound resources. Please do not give up on doing a world similar to mine as it is very easy to find resources for the old versions.
Q: What difficulty are you playing on?
A: I change the difficulty depending on the version I'm playing.
Infdev: Peaceful
Alpha 1.1.2_01 & Alpha 1.2.6: Easy
Beta 1.4_01, Beta 1.5_01, Beta 1.7.3 & Beta 1.8: Normal
Official Release 1.0 and onwards: Hard
I also made this thread to log any bugs or glitches I run into on my journey. I will post any of my findings in this post to assist anyone else who wishes to do a similar world.
Bugs, Glitches and Notes:
General Tips:
-Backup your worlds. By doing a world like this, you risk your world being corrupted each and every time you upgrade it. I do a backup after every play session and back it up on an external hard drive.
-Your world will have to be converted several times. Once in Beta 1.3, a second time in Official Release 1.2.1 and once more for Official Release 1.13.
Beta 1.8.1:
Black Chests (Lighting Glitch): The majority of chests previously placed prior to this version will appear black. This is a minor bug that can easily be fixed by updating a block near the chests. No Strongholds: Strongholds will not spawn if their spawn points have already been explored prior to Beta 1.8 as the game will not overwrite chunks to spawn it.
This is the only version of Infdev currently in the launcher and I could not figure out a way to get sounds working on. This was played in complete silence on Peaceful.
Spawn Tower:
Spawn Tower is the tower that marks the exact spot I spawned on with a gold block. Eventually, I'll come back and add more to this but I decided this is enough for now. I placed a chest with the first wooden tools I ever made. I'll keep these here and make a shrine for them once item frames get added. The Infdev sign was created just to signify the land it was made on. I really like its simple design and it's a standout for me.
Infdev House:
This is what I dub the Infdev House. Due to the limited materials, I feel I did the best I could in making a pretty basic house. I will return eventually to fancy it up some more. Because of all the caving I did, I actually gathered up some decent supplies and managed to organize them correctly. I also made a pretty basic wheat farm. This is the only thing you are really allowed to farm at this current point.
Surrounding Area:
These are some views of the surrounding area, some caves and other small builds I made. I really enjoyed the terrain for this update as it creates really random and cool looking areas.
This picture is to show you how regular minecarts acted back then. They were pretty much like minecarts with chests as there was no way to ride in them.
The Void Glitch:
I made a little path down to the void near my house. During this period of minecraft, dirt and stone would sometimes be in place of where bedrock would be, allowing you to easily access the void. There was also a glitch that allowed you delete bedrock by tiling dirt that's below bedrock.
Overall, I really enjoyed this version. It was basic but there was something really charming about it. Anyways, I'm moving on to Alpha 1.1.2_01.
I chose this version because it's the first one that I can get sounds to work on. A lot of things have been added since Infdev including:
Dungeons & Mob Spawners Cobblestone and Wooden Stairs Redstone Ore, dust, torch, levers, stone button, pressure plates and iron doors Winter Maps Boats Cactus Cows, leather and milk Clay and bricks Jukebox Eggs Music Discs Minecarts with chest and furnance Fences & ladders Spider Jockeys Sneaking, fishing rods, etc
Redstone is probably my favorite feature in Minecraft so I'm so excited it was finally added into the game.
Infdev Land Additions/Changes:
Here are some pictures of the small additions I added to our Infdev House. On top of that, I made some additions to what I call the Tree of Life, which is the first tree I grew with a sapling in this world. I used a glitch that allows me to place pressure plates and torches on top of it. I'm very curious if this glitch will persist into future updates. The cobblestone towers you see in the last picture will are what I used to guide me to my Alpha Base, which is a few hundred blocks away. Since Alpha terrain is the same as Infdev terrain, the transition between the lands are smooth. The only thing changed is the addition of dungeons.
Alpha Base and its surrounding areas:
Here's a look at my Alpha base. It's built mainly into the side of a nice hill that overlooks a nice ocean. I made a nice organized chest room, added some floors to it and made a nice window for it. I also added a small wheat farm, a cactus farm, a pretty decent tree farm (the slabs are used to prevent giant trees from growing). Overall, I think I picked a find spot to build this base and I really enjoyed this update. Redstone was my favorite addition and I actually used it to open and close the front doors. I didn't do much caving though I did find a few mob spawners, one spider, one skeleton and one zombie though sadly, I did not find any golden apples or music discs. Anyways, I'm moving on to Alpha 1.2.6.
Here are pictures of the inside of my house. Gathered a decent amount of resources and built a house into the side of a hill. Eventually, I added docks, a tree farm, wheat farm and a cactus farm (useless). I also explored a massive cave near the base which housed a skeleton spawner and a spider spawner. Sadly, none of them had music discs. I also find a zombie spawner but it had no chests at all. I didn't find any diamonds on this update but wasn't really looking for them and never made a mine. I also did make a redstone contraption with the front doors. The button locks the doors open and the pressures plates will open and close them.
This is going to be a journey......good luck with that. I can't even remember all the things you don't have. Already addicted to the update aquatic here - really wouldn't want to go back. I was just thinking - omg no observers - but you don't even have redstone yet - lmao.
Still the buildings don't look too bad even with the lack of materials.
I skipped several Alpha updates and went straight to Alpha 1.2.6. Besides Alpha 1.2, many of the Alpha versions prior to this were just bug fixes and small additions. Alpha 1.2 added the Nether, including netherrack, soul sand, ghast, zombie pigmen, glowstone and the ability to create nether portals. Pumpkins and Jack O Lanterns were also added with the ability to wear the pumpkin as a helmet. Fishing was also added into the game with the ability to catch raw fish and cook it. The bright green grass and leaves were replaced with darker versions. Part of me actually misses the iconic bright green grass.
Alpha Base and its surrounding areas Additions/Changes:
Added a bunch of small additions to the base. I completely removed the large hill next to the tree farm and added a front lawn to the house area. I also added a few things inside like couches and a light design made out of glowstone. Biggest thing added was the Alpha sign in the mountain made out of lava and netherrack which ties in with the Halloween theme. I also made a little pathway to connect the base with the mainland. Overall, all the changes were pretty small but they all helped to finalize the design. A big annoyance in this update was the fact that leaves did not decay. This was rather annoying.
Nether and random screenshots:
Alpha 1.2.6 introduced a new terrain generator so I had to travel far out from my base in order to get new terrain to spawn. There are some pictures of some cool things and the nether portal that is built on top of my Alpha 1.2.6 Mining Base. I also went into the nether, mainly to get some glowstone and soul sand and it was interesting. Ghast are as scary as ever and it feels like they spawn quite a bit more than they do nowadays. Overall, I enjoyed this update although the performance here was terrible, possibly the worse I've played so far. The next update will be Beta 1.4_01.
After much debate, I settled on Beta 1.4_01 as the next update, skipping several Beta Updates in between. Many things were added including: Beds, Lapis Lazuli, Cake, Dispensers, Note Blocks, Sandstone, tool-tips, the ability to throw eggs that have a chance to spawn chickens, bones & bone meal, charcoal, dyes and the ability to dye wool, sugar, squid & ink sacs, increased durability of all tools and weapons, redstone repeaters, cobblestone, wood and sandstone slabs, wolves, cocoa beans and cookies. With the addition of beds, you are allowed to sleep, skip the night and set a new spawn point.
Slimes were also re-added though they were originally added in Alpha. Wooden slabs have the same properties as cobblestone slabs, meaning you break them with a pickaxe and they can't burn to fire or lava. These slabs are called petrified wooden slabs nowadays. Since cobblestone slabs were added, the recipe for stone slabs were changed to actually use stone instead of cobblestone.
The biggest thing to note is that Beta 1.3 introduced the McRegion save format. Due to this, you are required to convert your world prior to Beta 1.3 though it is quite simple as it's built into the game. I didn't notice any bugs that came from the conversion but it's highly recommended to backup the save before converting. Smooth lightning was also added. I also bumped the difficulty up to Normal.
Finding A Spot:
I went about 12,000 blocks away from my Infdev land, bringing my world size up to 118.5mbs. I took some pictures on my adventures. The terrain went through some massive changes and I think it was for the better.
Alpha Base:
A few pictures of my alpha house. I expanded it and connected the cave system to the house and added a tree in the front lawn and a few other things like cake inside. This will be the last time we see any Infdev or Alpha land for a long time and I'm going to miss it quite a lot.
The Beginning of Beta Village:
Found the best spot for a project that's going to take a long time to complete. I built my first house on Beta and did the triple chest glitch. This glitch allows you to place up 3 or more chests right next to each other. The terrain around this place is amazing and I'm loving Beta so far, especially the smooth lighting. I'll post again whenever I make any updates on my Beta 1.4 terrain.
I started on a design for the main tower of this village. I was unsatisfied with it so I went back and made some changes.
I created a skeleton that the rest of the design will follow and I think I chose the right blocks for it. It's going to take a lot of cobblestone so it will take some time to gather it. I destroyed the original tiny shack I made when I first found this land. I will replace it with something else soon.
Wheat, Cactus & Tree Farm:
I created a decent size wheat farm right next to Beta Tower. I still need to gather more seeds for it but I'm happy with the design. I also created a pretty simple, useless cactus farm. The biggest thing is the tree farm. It took me a lot of time to come up with the final design and I'm overall pretty satisfied with it. Slabs are more expensive in these updates because the recipe only gives you 3 instead of 6. It nets me about 5 stacks of wood which is more than enough for me. Although spurce and birch trees spawn naturally in the world, there is no way to farm them as they their saplings variants do not exist yet.
Caves & Mines:
In order to get a lot of cobblestone for my tower, I decided to do an absurd amount of mining. In the process, I got a whole lot of resources including the brand new lapis lazuli.
I wish the older versions had sound. I understand bug fixes not being backported, but stuff like sound not working because they are removed from hosting is just a case of only partially offering the feature of old versions being available. I did play a few old beta versions (namely, beta 1.3 or 1.5, I forgot which) when they worked with sound before and it was fun in it's own way. If they had sound, I'd probably do a similar thing and start somewhere, and then just update to a new version once every week or two. Finding resource packs for older versions seems like it'd become increasingly harder too.
I'll be watching this thread. I like how you have stuff planned ahead already, like with the shrine for the original tools.
I couldn't leave floating leaf blocks in Alpha, had to get them down and the lack of leaf decay used to annoy me as well! So if you can't spruce or birch saplings yet, does the birch logs still you oak planks? I remember it did in early Beta, not sure about 1.4_01. I hope your going to do a big "BETA" sign as well!

You shouldn't allow Mojang's decision to remove old sounds stop you from playing. Not going to say any details on the matter here but the internet is a large place and there is always a workaround. Also, yes, I tried to do some forward thinking like I plan to do a patch museum inspired by a youtuber. I'm not using any texture packs though I assume it wouldn't be too hard to find old ones online. It's still a shame Mojang removed all sounds prior to 1.6.4 as it really puts off a lot of people from playing in some older versions.

A great read so fa, I shall be following as well.
The floating leaf blocks were annoying as heck xD. I had to go around and use flint and steel on everything to get rid of it. And yes, birch and spruce wood still gets you oak planks. The other wooden planks were not added until Official Release 1.2, I believe. I plan to do a BETA sign but probably not until Beta 1.7 or 1.8 as I think I want the design to incorporate pistons. I still have no idea what material I want to use for it. It's funny though, originally, I was only going to do an Infdev sign and nothing else. It grew on me and so I decided to make an Alpha sign as well. Thank you for the support, both of you.
I created a small storage room to organize my resources. I attached the room directly to Beta Tower and I'm quite pleased with the design.
SLIMES!:
I found the first slime of this world. I managed to snag 45 slimes ball of them which will come in handy when sticky pistons are added. I also labeled where I think the slime chunks would be and eventually, I will make a farm for them. Slimes in these updates spawn on layer 16 or lower so they are a lot rarer find.
Caving & Mob Spawners:
Success! I found two zombie spawners which is better than nothing. None of them had music discs, golden apples or cocoa beans sadly. Ended up finding two dungeons. At the very least, I managed to snag four saddles.
Underwater Sugar Cane Glitch:
Due to a glitch in the game, it's possible to place sugar cane, cactus, ladders and tilt dirt that is underwater. I decided to abuse this, mainly to see if it will persist into future updates.
I borrowed Etho's old design and made my very own hostile mob farm. I had to use a lossless cactus choke point for the spiders. This has gotten me nearly two double chests full of materials. It is a very active farm and I have AFK at it every time I play for a few minutes. To increase the spawns, I will have to light up a huge amount of caves and surfaces which will take an absurd amount of time. I've done a few already but it will be a while before its as max efficiency.
Base Redesigns:
Improved the tower a little bit. The exterior is still a work in progress. I have more then enough cobble to finish my tower from all the digging I did for the mob farm. I also updated the wheat farm so grass would stop growing on it due to bug with fences not preventing this. I also updated my goals for Beta 1.4. It's not a main concern of me to connect my Alpha and Beta base up yet. In fact, I'll probably hold off until we get powered rails in 1.5 so I can start work on a minecart nether station. My main concern now is finishing the tower and starting to build what will be my main house.
I improved on the tower interior, adding more rooms and to and improved the look for my mob elevator. I also changed the floor design to wooden planks and logs.
Showing off my near 100% completed first floor. I'm sure I'll add some small additions in the future but for right now, I think I have everything set up. I'm very pleased with the Nether portal location and as you can see, it offers up the coordinates to our other bases on the right side. Whenever we travel back to Alpha and InfDev land, I will add their nether portal locations to the left side as well for easy travel. I tried to be creative with the limited amount of blocks and make something nice and I think I succeeded.
First part of the exterior complete. Designed to add a large tower attached to it and made a cool design out of it. The old cobblestone texture has really grown on me and I will miss it when it changes in the upcoming updates.
I FINALLY finished Beta Tower (probably due for a name change). It was a long process and I did a lot of rebuilding but I think I finally got everything I needed finish. Interior still needs a second floor added and a staircase to the roof but besides that, everything here is finished for the time being. I might do a little bit of updating to the roof in a future update as I think I can still improve on it but let me know what you guys think. Finishing the tower pretty took all of the cobblestone I gained from making the hostile mod farm away so I'm pretty low on resources. I'll probably focus on mining, making gravel pathways and starting on my main house. First, I need to find a spot for it. I'm going to spending around 2-3 more weeks on Beta 1.4_01 and I decided my next version will be Beta 1.5_01 which adds achievements, powered rails, detector rails, weather and a few other things.
UPDATE: I decided to move on to Beta 1.5_01. In the grand scheme of things, Beta 1.5 is a small update and I saw no point in staying on Beta 1.4_01 any longer. After Beta 1.5_01, I decided to skip Beta 1.6 and go straight to Beta 1.7.3 as both combined will add a significant amount to the game.
With all my research on the triple chest glitch of Beta 1.4, I found out it's possible to make 5 chests side by side before the game crashes. Hopefully, even though the bug gets fixed, the chests don't crash the world when I upgrade to Beta 1.5_01. My playthrough of Beta 1.4 lasted from August 30th to October 3rd.
I upgraded the world to Beta 1.5_01. This update gives us powered rails, detector rails, spurce and birch saplings, new weather like thunderstorms, rain and snow and more. SHIFT-CLICKING is also partially added. Stats and Achievements were added as well. I already got every achievement except for riding a minecart for 1km and riding a pig off a cliff. This update also famously changed the way ladders work. You can no longer put gaps in them and still climb which is a change I'm fine with. So far, everything in Beta 1.5 seems like an improvement and although it doesn't say it in the changelog, I believe something in the way hostile mobs spawn has changed because it is way more active than it was on Beta 1.4_01.
Goals:
My main goals for this update are to add Birch and Spruce Trees to my tree farm. Shouldn't be too hard though I expect the Spruce trees will give me some trouble. I probably won't end up making a slime farm until Beta 1.7 but if I feel motivated, I'll get it done this update. I also plan on doing heavy cave exploring this update so I can find music discs and more importantly, a golden apple in dungeon chests. I also hope to find at least 1 spider spawner and 1 skeleton. This will be an absurd amount of cave diving and it have another positive because it will improve the rates of my farm even more than it is now.
Tree Farm Update:
First things first, I need to add birch and spruce to my farm. In my research, I found out I needed to raise the roof of my tree farm by one block in order to get spruce going. Spruce also needs far more space to grow than birch or oak do so whenever I place down their saplings, I had to leave larger gaps in between them. Luckily, birch fit right in with the farm so that wasn't too much of a hassle. I decided to have some fun with it and just blow up the glass roof with TNT! This spruce wood will come in handy for my house.
Building My House:
This house took me around a week and a half to do. I honestly got exhausted by Minecraft and needed a few days break but I grinded through and the house ended up really nice. I tried to use blocks I usually don't use and spruce and sandstone actually look really good together.
Here's how the interior looks. My favorite parts are the kitchen, my bedroom and the waterfall that really meshes well with the wool and sandstone. I'm planning on adding several redstone creations this update as well to both the tower and my house.
Beta Tower and everything else:
Some other random pictures. I abandoned my project on making a rail system to the top of the tower. I'm going to find a better way to do it as my mob system got in the way of my design. I also took some pictures the one time it rained near my tower. The last picture is the place where I dig out all my sand about 400 blocks away from my village. It used to stacked high with sand and now I've almost dug it all out.
EDIT: Also, the triple chest glitch was patched this update but any triple chests made prior to Beta 1.5 will still function and work. The true test is when we get to the update that changes the way chest works (I think Official Release 1.8). Also, I didn't take a picture of this, but the sugar cane, ladders and cactus I placed underwater last update also stayed in place and from the looks of it, should not pop off unless I update the blocks around it.
Probably the smallest post I've done so far. Pretty much, I spent the rest of the update exploring caves and fixing up my house. I much prefer how it looks now than when it had the sandstone. I found another zombie spawner that sadly only had saddles in the chests. The other ones I found also had no golden apples or music discs. I usually find a decent amount of music discs this far into the world so we may just have to settle to make a music disc farm. With that being said, I decided Beta 1.5_01 should be a rather short update. Not much was truly added here although it did allow me to upgrade my tree farm and build my house. My next version will be Beta 1.7.3 and since it is the last update we'll play before Beta 1.8 (a large update that changes a lot about the game), I decided I will attempt to make Beta 1.7.3 my longest played version so far. With Beta 1.7.3 comes texture changes with bricks and cobblestone. Comparison pictures are down below.
Beta 1.5_01: Beta 1.7.3:
Personally, I prefer the new textures although I will admit the old cobblestone texture really grew on me and I'll miss it a lot.
Beta 1.7.3 has been a blast. So many new features added including one of my favorites, pistons. This added some much need complexity to the redstone mechanics and allows for some amazing creations. The new cobblestone texture took a little while to get used to but I'm all for it now. I plan on updating a lot in Beta Villages and adding a lot of new builds, including an underground storage system. Trapdoors, grass, bonemeal, maps and shears were also added.
Here's some of my goals for this update that I plan to complete. I probably won't end up finding a golden apple as it's extremely rare to find it in dungeons in this version so that's the only one I'm okay with not completing. The main tower still needs some work, mainly a quick and painless way to make it from the bottom of the tower to the top. With pistons, I might possibly be able to do an elevator but I'm thinking more along the lines of a minecart track but we shall see. I also need to do the finishing touches on my house, make a storage room and make a semi-automatic wheat and sugar cane farm. Redstone will be utilized in a lot of these builds and new houses and towers will be added to make it feel more like a village. I plan to add a fishing hut and boat dock, use the freshly added maps, make a fountain in the middle of the village and make a slime farm. With glowstone being easier to obtain, I plan to use that as my main source of lighting. The last thing I need to do is fix the mob farm prior to 1.8. Not only will it most likely break next update but I also need to make the roof shorter so endermen cannot spawn once we move to Beta 1.8.
House Improvements:
My house went through a complete redesign since Beta 1.5_01. The exterior always felt incomplete to me so I went back and added some much needed cobblestone and wood to the design. I also made a balcony, created a better kitchen and added a piston door that can be locked and unlocked. Overall, I'm very pleased with the final design.
Other Changes:
Didn't do much to the tower yet. Just added a nice pathway to it and refined some features. Interior looks practically the same as it did before. I plan on redesigning the top of it eventually.
Added a small little house by the pond. It's been sitting there incomplete since like Beta 1.4 so I figured it was time to finally finish it. The last picture is the spot I plan on building the semi-auto wheat farm.
Added grass, flowers and trees to the area to give it more life. Grass was only recently added in Beta 1.6 and seeing as I live in Pre-Beta 1.6 terrain, they don't naturally spawn here. Luckily, my mob farm has given me more than enough bonemeal to grow all this. I also added a sugar cane farm, mostly for decoration. I'm going to make an automatic one.
I also lowered the mob farm roof by one in preparation of endermen in Beta 1.8. Sadly, my mob farm has not been as good as it was in the past due to squid spawning in the water and blocking the mobs from swimming up. I can't think of a solution to this so I'm just going to leave it alone. I got enough mob items anyways.
Finally completed Beta Tower. I have nothing else to really add to it.
Completed most of the storage room. I built it halfway between Beta Tower and my main house underground and I'm going to hook up a minecart rail system to connect everything. I will still utilize the storage room in Beta Tower but majority of my items will be based underground.
Beta 1.7.3 is by far my favorite update I've played so far. Going into it, I heard all these stories from the community about how great this update is and it has lived up to its legacy. Honestly, the game in this update still feels complete enough that I could play it and forget about all the cool things added after this. Beta 1.8 has a lot to live up to and I'm pretty familiar with that update and I'm fairly certain it won't live up to Beta 1.7.3.
Storage Room:
Added some more things in the storage room and fixed up a whole lot. I might have went overboard and made a storage room that is too big for the amount of blocks and items that Minecraft had at this point. Either way, I turned it from that to this:
Overall, I'm very pleased with my storage room. Now I just need to add a railroad system to connect the whole village and make a faster way to get up and down.
New Building:
Built what will end up being the center of my railroad station once I get started.
I didn't realize how long I spent on Beta 1.7.3 (It's been around 6 months lol) so I finally decided it's time to upgrade to Beta 1.8.1. Many changes come in this update such as the hunger system, Endermen, generated structures (strongholds, ravines, mineshafts, etc) and creative mode. I look at Beta 1.7.3 as the last update that perfectly showcases what Minecraft Infdev to Beta was all about and it's sad to see it go although I'm ready for the next chapter. Beta 1.8, however, is half-finished (as it's Part 1 of the Adventure Update with Part 2 being Official Release 1.0) and it shows. The endermen have zombie sounds as place holders, strongholds are added but end portals wouldn't be added until 1.0 and villages are here but with no loot and no villagers.
Also, if anyone is doing a world like mine, a piece of advice. Until Official Release 1.9, only 3 strongholds spawn per world and they are within like 300 or so blocks from spawn. So there's potential you already explored the area in previous updates where these strongholds would spawn in Beta 1.8 so they won't show up and you're stuck without a stronghold until 1.9. So if you plan on defeating the dragon in 1.0, you either have to avoid exploring that radius or you would have to delete some chunks in MCEDIT to allow the chunks to regenerate. This is most likely what I will be doing as I'm 98% sure I explored said area in my world and I want to fight the ender dragon at least once pre 1.9. Also, since Beta 1.8 does not have the end, any strongholds you find will not have end portals and will not generate any when you upgrade to 1.0 so be careful here as well.
I plan on doing a lot of things in Beta 1.8. My main thing is to finish Beta Village, create a Beta sign using pistons, explore some Beta 1.8 terrain and make a small Beta 1.8 base and to return to my Infdev and Alpha land and explore my old bases. Unsure of how long I will spend on Beta 1.8 as it could be buggy and it's half-finished but we will see.

Like I said - good luck...
World Size: 58.18 MB

Beta Tower:

A great read so fa, I shall be following as well.

Storage Room:
I created a small storage room to organize my resources. I attached the room directly to Beta Tower and I'm quite pleased with the design.
SLIMES!:
I found the first slime of this world. I managed to snag 45 slimes ball of them which will come in handy when sticky pistons are added. I also labeled where I think the slime chunks would be and eventually, I will make a farm for them. Slimes in these updates spawn on layer 16 or lower so they are a lot rarer find.

My main concern now is finishing the tower and starting to build what will be my main house.

these beta screenshots make me feel so old lol
nice thread
Lol, I remember Alpha.
I want to see more!
I'm going to spending around 2-3 more weeks on Beta 1.4_01 and I decided my next version will be Beta 1.5_01 which adds achievements, powered rails, detector rails, weather and a few other things.UPDATE: I decided to move on to Beta 1.5_01.
