Like, you know, when it was in beta and was still so simple. Everyone had crazy creations and glitches like the block duplication XD. Now they just added so much stuff like the funnel and all that. It's probably just me, because I'm in a minecraft forum, but i'm gonna ask anyways: Is it just me?

Not just you, I miss it too. I even have a working Minecraft beta 1.7.3 server, and am going to work on setting up a Minecraft classic server soon. I play old versions almost ALL the time. Depending on what I feel like playing, I play either Minecraft classic 0.0.13a, classic 0.30, indev, alpha 1.1, alpha 1.2, beta 1.7.3, or Minecraft full 1.6.2.
Yes, it's just you. There's no "old" Minecraft. You just like the incomplete version of the game better. People still have "crazy creations" and less glitches, the better. I've played old versions of Minecraft and I don't see why people like older versions so much.

It's just nostalgia. I have it too sometimes, people will remember back when they were new and the game was exciting and fresh, when they didn't know how to play. And they will realise that it was funner back then, not because of the amount of content but because their knowledge of the game. So they then try and deduce why they feel that way and instead of coming to the conclusion of Nostalgia they just decide it's because the game has gotten "worse". In reality what they miss is the mystery and newby-ness of the older versions when they didn't know how to play.

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.

Wrong. Very, very wrong. I've seen dozens of people on these forums saying they have nostalgia. And it's because of the knowledge those people had, not that there was less features. I pretty much know everything I need to know nowa days in my eleven room roomy base, when back in Beta 1.6.6 I couldn't tell the difference between a zombie and a creeper and had a 1x2x3 space in my tiny cobblestone house.
Don't just assume that nobody agrees with him. I'm done giving you a lecture now, and I will say I myself have nostalgia.

I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.

I really miss the old minecraft too. I've been playing since late alpha, and Once beta 1.8 came out I feel the terrain has gotten plain and there wasn't much to do anymore.
I have the minecraft version patcher, and I use it to go back to beta 1.5 when I felt the game was getting fun, because most of the people in my school started to play it and me and a couple of other friends were planning to make a server (which never happened, because we were all really big noobs at the time and my swimming always gotten in the way), and then I compare it to today's version. I feel that it was the feeling of being a noob is what I miss, because I go back to 1.5 and the only thing I can have fun with is the crazy terrain generations. It gets boring when you go back sometimes.
So if the game was still as simple as it was, maybe we wouldn't be having feelings of doubt and depression of back then, and it would have been much more of a less complex fantasy like game. I sort of feel they over-implemented things into the game, but I guess that's what fascinates people and develops the game more.
I agree I want to play the older versions of minecraft but it glitchest when I click play and I don't know how to fix it is there a way to play the old versions with like a mod or do I just need a new computer/account.
If it wasn't for the "RPG elements" in the game I would have lost interest in it a long time ago, and I started playing as late as 1.4.6. I enjoy collecting experience and enchanting, setting up villages and doing trades, brewing, etc. It just adds more activities to the game that breaks up the monotone of building and caving.
I enjoy all the addition and changes. Same gets boring. Of course I have throwbacks of nostalgia, but I do enjoy all the different variety of blocks and items to utilize during the game.
If a game never changes, it can never improve. Change is a must.
It's really hard to say, I've been playing Minecraft since the release of Beta. I feel like I enjoyed those days better, when the game was more simplistic, I'm not entirely sure, though, nostalgia is a funny thing. We may think we enjoyed those earlier versions better because those were the days when we all fell in love with this wonderful game. I'm sure we'd experience the same sense of nostalgia a year or two down the road, but we'll all be missing 1.6. Just a speculation.
I think it has more to do with the glory of playing Minecraft for the first time.
Think about the first time you ran into a creeper, found your first diamond, built your first crappy dirt house. None of these things provide excitement anymore. So we have to find new, creative ways to challenge ourselves.
I think Minecraft is still great. We couldn't expect the developers not to add more features to it as time went on.
You would probably get bored if you always played the "ol'good minecraft": This is why there's new additions every once in a while. The game moves on and gets more interesting and complex.
I sometimes miss old days when i first got the game and we had only 4 mobs and almost none of what we have today, but thats because it was a new game to me. When zombies dropped feather and life was simple. Then I remember how tedious the game was back then before everything that we have today.. before all the awesome redstone contraptions and beautiful builds people have done with all the new blocks that have come out. I also then remember before pistons there was no way to manipulate liquids automatically except for with mods, and how stupid easy mobs were to kill back then. Survival was only really survival for your first couple days (in game) or if you were a noob. I much prefer the way it is today and look forward to every new update for more content and mods to fill the gaps between updates. New content is my best friend

I miss the old terrain generator.. All those epic mountains and large sandy beaches. The terrain varied so much, it was unrealistic. That's what I loved about beta.
