I rarely stick to the spawn point in Minecraft. In fact, rather than trying different seeds, I prefer to build a temporary base, gather some initial resources and go exploring. Today I decided to go further.
I loaded myself with four maps and a book to log my progress, as well as about 60 pieces of meat, construction materials and other useful things. At around 12PM today I parted from my temporary base near 286x69x-247, to the south-east, with a full inventory.
I created the map with the large biomes option, so it often took a really long time to see changes in the scenario. I went through a jungle, a desert (where I found a temple), lots of snowy biomes, mountains... Until I found a specially huge Ice Plains biome, which could well be two Ice Plains divided by one Ice Mountains biome. In the middle of it, nearby the mountains, I found a ravine - so I decided I should build my new home here. It would look great with a shinto temple on the side of that mountain (oh, the plans).
In order to make sure that I was sort of in the middle of the biome and wouldn't see anything but white from my new home, I kept going east to explore a bit more, until I found an ocean. For the first time I made a boat and went exploring (by this time, my log had already 15 pages). When I finally saw land, I decided to turn back. It was night, so I thought it would be a good idea to wait until dawn to go back ashore and start building my new house.
I use Minecraft with Steam, so I pressed shift+tab to open the Steam browser and check the forums. What I didn't know was that left shift now makes the character hop off whatever he's riding.
I went back to the game only to see myself drowning in the bottom of the ocean, with everything I had, hours from home. I didn't take any mob damage the whole game. I have never died.
As a friend of mine said, "games can be as cruel as real life sometimes".
“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.”

I feel bad for you. I've been there! You can't give up...not because of a simple mistake. Go gather them materials, find that snow biome/ice mountain and build that Shinto Temple! If you don't then the game wins and we can't have that can we?

Neither do I, but his surname sounds quite funny. Maraboli. I'll move forward, and this time forward will be west.

I'm thinking about creating a new world. At least I'd be exploring something new that way (´・ω・`)
That's why you always quit your world/server, then go back to playing. I once just AFKed in SMP Survival, and someone killed me with all my (best you can enchant xP) diamond armor and tools...
Games are hard. Life's harder. People are the hardest.
I am a very careful player and rarely die. The issue with rarely dying is you can get kinda complacent. On a brand new map, just as I was at the enchantment tier, which was fast due to a skele spawner being 100 blocks from spawn, I went down to do some serious mining with my brand new fortune III pick.
34 diamonds later my inventory is full of redstone, lapis and garbage so I am booking it back through my branch mine. Well I hadn't offset the branches from the main tunnel so I missed my exit tunnel and ran down another branch without noticing the torches were now on the wrong side. Guess what? I left open lava at the end of that branch and sank in it in total shock, losing 2 diamond picks(yes the fortune III one) all my enchanted iron armour, 34 diamonds and a pile of other stuff.
The thing is, I had 34 diamonds with only 1 full inventory of mining with that pick, so after a day of cooling off I just enchanted a new fortune III pick and went back down to do a full safety overhaul of the 'ol mine.
Might I suggest traveling with only food, tools, torches and obsidian? You can use the nether to get back and forth super quickly and thus link up your bases. Contrary to popular belief it's quite simple to do.
Refer to one of the great tutorial gurus Xisumavoid:
I've been in similar situations like you have and yes sometimes, when you've got a good roll going and it all ends in what you thought was a cheap death. You tend to not want to come back in MC after that when you've got a good haul.
My mortal enemy on minecraft is Lava, right behind Archers and Spiders. And I cannot tell you how many times I've made it a destiny to vanquish either of them whenever they're around. Because I've been shot by archers and have been shot into lava by them. Also have had times where Spiders would outnumber me and despite being prepared, a good group of them will defeat you.
I can't recall how many good hauls I've lost during those deaths. But from the sound of your story, that sucks.
Maybe because I love creative and rarely play survival, this seems like a small deal. If you feel the game has cheated you, or the death was not your fault, just use TMI to get back all the items, try to forget about it, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Once you start giving yourselves things, you don't stop. "I'll just replace my enchanted armour" quickly becomes "well I could mine the diamonds for these 3 stacks of diamond blocks, all I'm doing is saving time.... etc.
I'm a really cautious person, but I can remember one time I "dug too deep" and ended up at the bottom of a really deep cave system with no food and little health.
Just as my luck would have it, I didn't torch everything up, so my climb back up was fatal.
I raced back to the cave only to find all my items had despawned (the cave was near one of my outposts away from my spawn).
I was on a server which has IC2, AE, Forestry, etc. FTB kinda thing..
Anyways, I was in the spawn (which isn't but a log cabin type house, still in beta testing)
I was in the middle of moving and had everyting in my inventory within storage cells and my ME chests. I had about 150 diamonds, tons of other ores, just a crap load of stuff. Well I'm taking care of my sick Grandma so I had to afk for a bit. But while I was gone, a mob must of found a way in the house and killed me.
The owner of the Admin was nice enough to come and place my dropped items in a chest, but unfortunatly he got there too late and most of it despawned. I even lost some MV Compact Solars of his I was borrowing for quarrys. If you know what they are and how much it takes to build them, then you would understand..
I am quite sorry for you, I really am, but I am sure we can all relate to this. Just keep pressing forward, and in no time, you'll be back to where you were before.
Only yesterday had I updated Minecraft to 1.6.1, not remembering I used to have the mod 'Bibliocraft' which contains items such as armour stands and tool racks. Anyhow, I entered my world only to find that my diamond tools and armour which was on those racks, gone. I guess you win a bit and lose a bit...

That's what I do when I go dig, but it wouldn't work, in this case. The point of the journey was finding a new home, and I have found more stuff on the way that I should have taken (for example, a diamond and an iron horse armor) so I had to have everything with me. Well, of course I could gather everything again at the new spot, but that would feel just like starting a new world, I think.
Anyway, I'm an experienced player, although I have been out of the loop since long before enchantments... This was but a fluke, I hope. A very frustrating fluke.

That kills the adventure. Losing everything should be part of the process - I just happened to have nothing store.

I have done that before, too. I remember my first months of minecraft, when once I fell into a hole that apparently lead to a skeleton spawner, then died twice or three more times trying to get everything back.

It was a 3-hour walk, so I would be there in a 3-hour no time, and would not find the itanz No worries though - I'll just start a new world and do the same, except for the part of dying. :3

One reason why I never use mods. (;´・ω・)

I know that feeling, someone or something makes you so frustrated that you don't want to play the game again. My solution to these problems are to go to a new server or start a new world.
I recommend going to a server, you can make a few new friends and it's a lot of fun. The only downside is you'll have more frustrating moments than you would have in a single-player game like griefers, trolls, etc.

Indeed, it was a lot of fun when I played online with friends. I have never liked playing for too long on public servers, though. I'll start a new world today!

Maaaan. How'd you control your temper. If it was me I'd be so mad. And then Once I cooled Down I would Just Give MY Self the XP and whatever I had! Ha! What a loser I am!

It's not on Steam. You can make it run with Steam though.
And that stinks. I hate figuring things like that out AFTER I'm dead.
YES.
Neither do I, but his surname sounds quite funny. Maraboli. I'll move forward, and this time forward will be west.
I'm thinking about creating a new world. At least I'd be exploring something new that way (´・ω・`)
Nope. I added it as a non-steam game in order to use the overlay.
And I guess I'm just poorly focused. I forgot about the new command to unmount and didn't associate it to the steam's default key binding...
And losing all your itanz for it, on top of that.
Games are hard. Life's harder. People are the hardest.
