Diamonds. I've got a full stack of diamond blocks in my current world. Yes, a full stack of diamond BLOCKS(plus some extra). Iron is only better in that it's more disposable.
Iron has more uses outside of armor and tools so I usually save it for that. (especially Beacons)
I think people exaggerate how much easier it is to find iron. If you have a decent branch mine set up and a Fortune pick handy you'll be drowning in diamonds before too long.
I go with diamond. Iron tools break too fast for my liking and I never find myself running out of diamonds.
As for armor either iron or diamond is fine. Last server I played on I used iron but like I said earlier I never ran out of diamonds. I don't use diamond blocks for decoration so I have plenty to spare for armor.
So the middleground I see is diamond tools, iron armor. If you have plenty of diamonds to spare you can make diamond armor too if that's what you want.
Furthermore there's villager trading if you get into that.
Diamond. I make a pick and sword first, then branch mine more, then craft (or buy) other tools, then when I'm swimming in diamonds and XP, I craft and enchant some diamond armor too. And if a villager is selling one, a hoe.
If I'm PvPing, iron ftw. Enchanted iron armor is better then normal diamond, and a diamond sword only does an extra half a heart of damage.
Uh... Yeah, rofl. And enchanted diamond armor is better than enchanted iron armor. What's your point? Does it take that much more effort to enchant diamond gear?
The iron is good when you begin, but is obviously that the better mineral of the minecraft world is the diamond, the diamond have more resistance that the iron, and in all the ways is better the diamond, so the better mineral is the diamond.
Iron armor with diamond sword and pickaxe is a great combo in my opinion However, if you start to find more and more diamonds, diamond armor would definitely be the best.
To be honest, I actually prefer the look of iron to diamond. But diamond is much more durable so I use diamond tools
Iron Mostly. I only get Dia Picks and Dia Swords. A set of well enchanted Iron armor is better than normal Dia armor. I only use Dia armor when I have a full set, and all of them are fully enchanted. Even if it was level 1 Enchant. But I still prefer lvl30 encahnts. Having Enchanted Armor and Sword = Screw with me, I'll screw you up.
I think it's very easy to find iron and it's a lot stronger than leather or gold armor and also stronger than stone and wood tools and it's very easy to find and diamonds are the strongest types of tools and armors but very hard to find so I can't choose
Both materials have their advantages and disadvantages.
Iron is far more common, but it also has a lot of uses. Besides armor, swords, and tools, it's also used in anvils, hoppers, pistons, beacons, mine carts, mine cart rails, cauldrons, iron bars, compasses (and thus maps) and many other things besides.
Diamonds make far better armor, swords, and tools, but besides that they're primarily used for enchantment tables.
At the beginning of a game, diamonds primarily go into pickaxes, as I try to get Silk Touch and Fortune III pickaxes, but as I get more and more established, I keep needing more and more iron, and so diamonds (with their greater durability) start replacing my iron equipment, where possible. Iron is simply too useful that I don't want to "waste" it on armor and weapons.
Although I would much rather play the game without diamond than without iron, since both of them are renewable (iron ingots from iron golems and diamond armor and tools from villager trades) and diamond offers the better performance, I think I should go with diamond.
Witch Material do you think is Better to use for tools or in combat?
Iron has that appealing Chalk white color that makes you intimidating to the un-armored individual. Its almost as common as god Damn Rocks and its a good item for currency in online servers who use barter methods for the exchange of good such as food and Materials
Diamond, that Sky blue gem that sparkles even in the deepest of caves, its a number one priority for the average player and is a clear sign that you will not be ed with in the open when in a full set of armor. It completely decimates stone as if it were paper against a pair of brand new, shiny steel scissors. Unfortunately, its extraordinarily hard to find, only finding 4 or 5 after going through an entire set of mining tools.
Witch do you think is better?
The common, and abundant white metal that makes great armor
or The Sparkly, powerful gem that marks you as a #1 target on the "Kill-for-cheap-diamonds" list?
This is written with way to much literary beauty. I just feel inspired reading your explanation of the competing materials.
Iron is my favorite Ore, and Iron will own the arguement. because Iron is Convinient and also easy to find, but if you're talking about toughness it might be diamond, because diamond is the most powerful ore as we all know. but still if iron lose it's okay too me because diamond pickaxe is the icon of miners that symbolize Diamond...
Chuck Norris supports this comment.

a) More common
Not that much of a difference
c) Atomic number is 26, while diamonds are 12
d) Good building meterial
e) More crafting recipies

I say so because I see always in the youtube videos people always go in diamond armor. Maybe most of them cheat and mix creative and survival.
