I got it because I liked the ability to build, and also the survival aspect. I wish they still had Survival Test on the Minecraft website, because it was what convinced me to buy the game.
I purchased Minecraft recently after trying on a friends pc. I had been a long time online mmorpg kind of guy, and would often be frustrated by the sheer lack of solid support most mmo's have now. It's quite refreshing to see how well supported this game is, and I am enjoying it immensely. I am excited about the upcoming content in october.
Lets see... I think I got it because I was playing a game called Blockland (It's like Minecraft, except creative) and there was a Minecraft server on the list. I logged on and the first thing I asked is, "What is Minecraft?". Then the owner banned me and reason was, Go look it up. So I did, and I was hooked on the creative. Also, this was on my crappy computer. I have a new one now. SO I look at it in Survival, after I bought it, and I walked around hitting trees rapidly clicking. Then I fell in a hole in the night, and I was like, WHAT IS THIS GAME?
Well, at first (this is going to get me hate probably) I pirated it back in alpha 1.2/1.3. Then, I told my friend, he pirated it for like a day then bought it. After seeing I was not able to play online, update, or change my skin, I started considering purchasing it. After 1.5 came out, I couldn't take it any longer. I wanted to play with my friend! I got my own money and told my mom I wanted to buy this game. After like 2 days of asking her, she let me use my money and buy Minecraft with her credit card thus; I was born into the brotherhood of miecraft. There is my story.
I don't condone pirated software, but you eventually purchased it, so no hate from me.
I bought it because my kids kept watch YouTube videos of itr and bugging me to buy it. I got the free pocket edition for my iPad, and they played that all the time. I didn't see what was so great about it, but decided to try the PC version. I was hooked right away with that, and bought myself a premium account. I let the kids use it when they played, until I decided it would be fun to set up a server that all of us could play on together. That's when I decided to buy them their own account.

Well, I was introduced to Minecraft on accident. I saw a Minecraft video by the Yogscast, and I watched it. After watching them for a week, I started playing a pirated version like most people. I play on that until I decided I HAD to buy this game, and so I did. The end.

"The only place I wanna go; that's forward. Going back is a waste."
"Go back there, it's the only place people like you belong." "Just don't come back."
Before Minecraft I was playing Terraria (still do). I had one of my friends come up to me on my birthday and showed me his worlds and creations. Cool its a 3D version of Terraria! My friend downloaded the pirated version so I can get the hang of it on single player and 3 days later I bought it. I still own the pirated version just for those occasions I wish to just build and test some creations before I add them to my worlds on the actual purchased version.

I joined back in 1.7.3, about a month after I quit RuneScape. My friend suggested it to me a while back but I hadn't considered it until then. I watched a video or two of it and there was no hesitation of buying it Best decision I ever made...
It's a game that's similar to Minecraft in a few ways, but for the most part completely different. It's a 2D side-scroller where you can build and all, but there's more of an adventure aspect to it. Lots of fighting monsters, finding new items, and defeating bosses. I suggest at least checking it out
In 2011 Danielle (sister) and I where surfing the web for a perfect game. We came across Minecraft so watched the trailer and saw it had the survival game play plus creative game play
