I've recently started a new world in survival, after playing in my old one for a while now. My achievements are as follows:
- Quad Cave Spider XP Farm
- Enderman Grinder (Panda's design prior to tripwires)
- Blaze Farm (Etho's design)
- Pretty large base (Started tearing it down with new updates to rebuild it, so lots of empty space and a massive crater)
- Enormous cow farm
- No beacons (Killed about 30 wither skeletons, never a single skull)
- No village (I've traveled really far, but have never found one)
In my new world, I've just started, and am having trouble getting Fortune for mining.
I currently have (in books):
- Respiration II
- Sharpness III
- Silk Touch I
I've pretty much finished a cave spider (1 spawner) xp farm, just needa hook up the crusher.
But the snag I've caught is that I can't find any Nether fortress'. I'm not in a position to get on my good computer at the moment I'm playing on a pretty weak laptop. This makes travelling in the Nether near impossible.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what I can do to either overcome this, or to chose a different path as I stall in order to wait for my better computer? Thnx..<3
Why do you need to find more Nether fortresses anyway? you already have a Blaze farm, and I'm sure the W.Skeletons can spawn in there. But if you really need one, follow the West-East rule, as other players suggested. Use Optifine (but it's currently unfinished) for a much smoother gameplay. You can choose too start a new world, but do not delete you old one, looks like you put hard work on that one.

His nether fortress is in the old world. It's his choice to start a new one, and his choice to delete it or not.
I hate it when that happens. Best tactic is either switching it to peaceful and bridging or working your way around near the top with a lot of digging.
Wither skulls are very rare. 1/40 chance of dropping one and looting enchantment on a sword doesn't affect the rate.
Has that been confirmed in the code? As far as I was aware, they were just another rare drop, which meant looting helps a bit. I have always used looting in skull collection, but that might just be anecdotal evidence and a placebo effect on my own end.
Anyway, on topic with the thread: To find nether fortresses, head in an east/west path instead of a north/south path. They tend to generate in parallel north/south lines, so running perpendicular to them should offer a good chance of finding them relatively quickly.
But, like the others, I suggest sticking to your current world.

There's a nice project for you. Try to prime the nether for wither spawning. Disable spawn points around a fortress to a moderate degree, make a second pathway 3 blocks below the current fortress pathways (meaning 2 air blocks between the paths) and get yourself some beacons!

Hey, he asked for ideas, I gave him one, I just think he has done too much work on it so I think he must take care of it. But that's just me.
Again, follow the West-East rule.
In terms of finding a Nether Fortress, I think I'll go to Peaceful and bridge..
I already have optifine...
In terms of why I started a new world..I just simply wasn't happy with the way I'd gone about a lot of my major projects. I felt that all the problems were just big to rebuild everything...so I choose to start again. Which works out fine with all the new stuff in updates (Witches, carrots, potatoes etc.)
Also, I'm fairly sure that Looting helps on Wither skeletons, and I was using Looting 3.
I think I'll just keep grinding for Fortune after I finish the spider farm.

It's the north/south rule, don't go east/west.
Don't go peaceful, that just ain't fair.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

From my perspective it sounded like you were getting confused about what is in which world. He has fortresses and a blaze farm in the old world. He doesn't have either in the new world, and is looking for a new fortress there, and you asked why he needed a new one when he already has one in his old world.

Regardless...I know that going to Peaceful is pretty weak...but I simply can't play otherwise. Forget fighting mobs in the nether, my computer can't even handle me walking about around my portal if there are mobs spawning...
2 days in a nether fort that I made an area for withers to spawn and half slabbed a ton of area near it. Some times get groups of 3-4 wither skeletons at once. Using a looting 2 sword and only 1 skull so far...I've gotten maybe 2-4 stacks of nuggests, around 10 or more gold pigmen swords, enough blaze rods I was using them today as furnace fuel, maybe 5+ wither stone swords, maybe a stack or more of coal off of them, a few magma creams.
Not even getting to the dragon (different times in different worlds) was as big a pain as getting the skulls.
Villges aren't too hard to find, really easy if you are playing classic supeflat. That in itself is a challenge, and yes it is possible to find a sapling in blacksmith chests as well as obsidian. The town wells have water and the blacksmith has lava. Villagers sell glass and you can make cobblestone gens. You can also buy diamond tools and armor from them. You can reach the nether and it'll be the normal nether with fortresses. You can also find, and buy books/book shelves.
Superflat is a new kind of challenge to try and classic is pretty low lag since it is only about 5 or so layers tall.
I suggest working back in your old world, as it will be more enjoyable, at least it would be to me. I don't play much of vanilla anymore but I did accidentally delete my main world thinking I was something else, and that made it pretty hard to start a new one.

They SPAWN in north/south patterns. Going straight east/west is the best way to run into one.
EDIT: I know IronMagus posted an AMIDST screenshot proving this, but I can't find it to save my life.

Yeah, this. Lemme see if I can find it.
EDIT- nope, sorry. I just searched 10 pages and no dice.
