Maybe this should be in a mod section...not sure. If so, could a staff member please move it? Thank you! ^-^
I always have a hankering to start a singleplayer survival, but when I do, I eventually delete it. I'm always wanting to do less multiplayer and more singleplayer, as that's the actual game, but I'm always winding up bored. I'm not a good builder and I'm not creative, so that's most of the survival aspect gone. Sure, there's the Ender Dragon and the Wither to kill if I'm looking for PvP, but in my opinion, it takes far too long to reach them for it to be worth it. Spoiler below to hear me whine about said issue.
I have to spend ages mining for diamonds and then hoping to get the correct enchantments. I also have to go around killing Endermen, and half of the time one won't drop an Ender Pearl. Then I have to brew potions and kill Blazes to turn the Ender Pearls into Eyes of Ender. Then I find the stronghold, and when I'm ready to kill the dragon, she knocks me into the air and I'm dead, only to have lost all the progress I made.
Killing Wither Skeletons for their skulls is no fun, either, and the only reward is a glowy thing which I have to mine tons and tons of resources for, only to have it give me a potion effect of my choice.
The main point of this thread is that I want to know of a few mods that will (hopefully) make me actually create a survival world, have a good time with it, and never delete it unless I drop dead in lava along with all of my items. I've tried using Biomes O' Plenty, but it was nearly impossible to find caves unless I was in a vanilla biome. The biomes were gorgeous, though.
I have tried Hexxit before, but I'm using a business PC and it's about a constant 20 FPS, even with fast graphics, clouds turned off, and render distance at 8. I figure OptiFine would help, but I do believe I've tried it in the past and it didn't do anything. Aside from all that, the main problem is that there wasn't a sprint key yet.
The version doesn't really matter, anything 1.7.2 and up would be wonderful (I neeeed that sprint key). Thanks to those who have taken the time to read this thread!
I do not consider most of the Survival aspect to be building and being creative; after all, that is what Creative mode is for (not that you can't build in Survival).
Also, the OP said that they had trouble finding caves, not that they did not want any caves, which IMO are 99% of the entire game (originally named Cave Game and now Minecraft, suggesting that mining is a big part of the game), although my playstyle probably isn't very interesting, and while I've made mods that enhance this aspect of the game (vanilla 1.6.4 vs TMCWv4 vs vanilla 1.7+) and much more the only one I've made for recent versions simply restores the underground generation in 1.6.4 (I recently released an update for 1.12.2 which also optionally lets you make mineshafts as common as they used to be; all you have to do is make a Customized world with dungeon chance set to 16 and you'll very closely get what 1.6.4 had; in fact, 1.6.4 cave seeds are fully compatible. Of course, there is a catch with this as well since it is not a Forge mod so it is harder to install and possibly incompatible with other mods).

Click here to see dragons I've successfully raised! (EDIT: Veeeery old; I don't raise dragons anymore)

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
