Play on both survival and hardcore worlds. I just like the rush of venturing through caves knowing I can't derp around. I like test myself to see how much minecraft abuse my guy can take.
Of course, that's just my opinion. Do you play on hardcore? Why or why not?
If I were to play hard core I would be constantly backing up my world, like every five minutes. I prefer survival because I actually become attached to a world that I pour my creativity into to make my own. So, survival for me.
Hardcore + friends is FUN! (If you are doing it for fun and not really building, just for a challenge)

Stop worrying so much,
worrying is using your imagination to create things you don't want to.
I only play hardcore single player 'cause if I'm alone in the world and I get myself killed just doing my own thing then I deserve to have to start over, all the stuff I did would just be tainted for me any other way! But I also play a lot of regular survival in LAN 'cause the person I play with is kinda wussy and doesn't even want mobs on most of the time.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Survival. I'm not prepared to lose errything I worked so hard on. But, in my recent SSP world, I've only died twice, and I'm halfway through the Nether, so if I were given 4 extra lives, I could probably do that.
I play in survival because all your hard work in a hardcore world can be erased in 10 seconds. Plus, it isn't fair if you die because of lag or forgetting to pause then game when AFK.
I rarely play on single player, since I find it more fun to play with others, but when I do, hardcore is the way I go.
I don't usually get attached to my worlds, and I lean towards hardcore more because I like the challenge. Plus, as I've said before, I don't usually get attached to my worlds, so me dying and not being able to play again is Minecraft's way of telling me that the world has out grown me.
Of course, that's just my opinion. Do you play on hardcore? Why or why not?
However I do both.

It spawned me inside of a wall and I died.
I never entered Hardcore since....
