playing singleplayer survival. i climb to the top of a mountain and notice there's a rather unnatural looking box at the peak (on top of the mountain). so i climb down the face of the mountain a tiny bit and i find the opening to a cave. i start to enter only to hit an "invisible wall" of sorts. in the included screenshot, i'm at said wall. if i try to move any farther forward, the game just glitches/hangs and i get stuck.
the really odd thing is, look at what's in this cave... a random block of water, diamond ore, mushrooms, a music player, and from the other side you can see an enchantment table and various other goodies. what gives?!
Since the cords and seed here in these two pictures are the same, but the biomes and location are different. I think that your world is older and the seed changed over time.
Another interesting observation, OP is at y 84 but is in an ocean biome. Oceans are at ~63 y at sea level, which would mean he's about 20 blocks up in a cave. That would imply a mountain. But at that point it wouldn't be an ocean biome. Potentially faked.
i assume these forums must bear witness to the sort of people who would actually take the time to fake something of this nature just for laughs, but i swear i haven't faked anything. i'm genuinely perplexed as to what has happened here. i am also very new to minecraft in general (only started playing in the past few weeks) and would never have even thought to fake something like this.
i figured it was a game glitch of some sort, but i'm curious as to how a glitch like this can come to pass. at first i thought maybe the game actually sets up a "secret spot" that houses all block types for the world and you're not ever supposed to find said spot. a bunch of forum and wiki searching led me to believe that's not how the game is coded, so i came here to post my findings.
again, i'm not trolling. i'm too damn old for such nonsense, and frankly, can't even stand the very concept of trolling.
i really don't know how else i would go about legitimizing what i have going on here. is there any way for me to export the whole world to a file that others can load in their own client?
probaly a troll, but if not then this is the solution:
Give Seed and co-ords to a fellow player willing to check this out, if its still there contact dinnerbone/mojang
Try entering from another side
i have tried entering from multiple sides. i've tried mining down in from the top and up in from the bottom. in all instances, i meet the "invisible wall" i mentioned previously.
this is almost definetly a corrupted chunk. On very rare occasions the rendering and generation engines can crash like that. Was there anything interrupting the world when you built the terrain? E.g, power failure, freezing, crashing anything like that? It looks like its a chunk that is corrupt. And so to prevent an exception in the engine, the game has filled it with random blocks, but in reality the chunk is actually non-existant, explaining why you can't get in.

Free + Crabs + Ability to trample/suffocate opponents in Cortex Command = Free Bombs.
i honestly can't recall exactly, but i've had several intermittent crashes while playing, and i *think* i had a crash or two when i was first loading the world because i didn't know what i was doing as far as loading mods with magic launcher, and i had some stuff out of order and didn't have enough memory allocated to handle the texture pack and so on and so forth.
would this also possibly explain why i'm seeing this completely unnatural looking "box" just hanging out on top of a mountain? it's utterly out of place, which is why i immediately ran over to it once i saw it.
i'll get a screenshot from afar to show you what i'm talking about.
Crashing mid play session can quite often introduce corruption into world files and is most likely what has happened.
Regarding people's doubt about the authenticity due to generation not matching, perhaps this world was generated several versions ago?
it was generated in 1.4.6 and i think i upgraded to 1.4.7 a day or so after it was released. i've never run any versions older than 1.4.6 and i haven't run any snapshots either.
if this is really just a crash causing corruption, that's pretty neat! it almost makes me think of tron or something, as if minecraft could be this living, breathing world in and of itself where computational errors in the "real" world can wreak havoc in the "virtual" world. i know that sounds ridiculously nerdy, but hey, it's still cool.
Perhaps maybe you placed your home on the mountain and then while exploring, your forgot about the location and then the chunks failed and then glitched.
no, i haven't even built a home yet. i have an underground base that's pretty meager with a bedroom, and then that connects to a utility room/hub for my various mineshafts. but i was getting bored with all the subterranean exploration, so i went topside and started running around, eventually coming across this weirdness. in fact, i was looking for a suitable place to build a castle/tower for my overworld base of operations when i found this spot.

What seed are you using "/seed" to figure that out.
What are the coordinants?
here's a screenshot with seed and coords.
edit: weird! i just noticed the debug screen is saying that this biome is ocean... huh?!?!

Did I do something wrong?
I tested this and I got a different result. Okay this is getting weird......
This is.. strange. Where's the doctor?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

directly above the cave opening is the odd "box" i'm talking about.

Seems odd though how your generation doesn't match the seed if that was generated in 1.4.6
