I've never really tried building something truly big in my adventure map, and I was watching this interesting tutorial for an Iron Golem farm (which would be quite nice), but taking into account the facts that it does require quite a lot of building materials and also that I'm rather noobish in the game, I decided to come and ask whether you, more experienced players, reckon this thing still works in the latest version of the game.
Well, just so that we are on the same page here, the video I am talking about is this one:
Well, I've been saving up tons of resources in order to go for something big, and I would really like it if I could make it work.
I should like to apologize if this particular question has already been made, I look forward to getting some suggestions on this project and I do appreciate the atention mobilized to this.
Since the video is Docm77s, there's pretty much a 100% chance that it still works. He's extremely reliable, and it's not too difficult to make if you know what you're doing. If worst comes to worst, you can always build it in a creative test world. Good luck!
I would suggest watching Docm77's video on an iron golem farm. He's extremely reliable, and it's not too difficult to make if you know what you're doing. If worst comes to worst, you can always build it in a creative test world. Good luck!
That is actually quite true. For some reason, I hadn't really thought about trying it out in a test world (genious!).
It's nice to know he's indeed reliable. That's what I suspected; his tutorials are quite easy-to-follow and such.
we've got an iron golem farm on our survival server and it works like a charm - only thing you'll need to think about it is what to build with the iron blocks!

I watched that video myself a while ago, and it was very straightforward and easy to follow. DocM77 is a good Minecrafting YouTuber, as are EthosLab, paulsoaresjr (is that spelled right?), and AntVenom, to name a few. I hope this answered your question, but I'm not really sure what your question was, so sorry about that. Good luck with your Minecrafting!
I am currently building this same farm, and it is already working great. So far, I have only completed two spawning pad's on one side, and I have already picked up 3-4 stacks of iron during construction ( though I did have to go mining for cobble after I got the first pad done, so it had time to build up a bunch of guys.
I did recently come across a more compact design, that has 2 more villages to it which might have a higher production rate, but it has to be followed EXACTLY, or it will be broken and you won't have any indication of if or when it happened.

good list, I would also add Monkeyfarm.
This compact model seems to be extra hard to be done in vanilla survival, even though the concept is made of sheer awesomeness.
I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I am going to transport all of the villagers to the exact spot where I decided to build this farm, since I've just come to find two villages which are way too far away from it.
On my world, I am isolated on an Island that is over 2,000 block's from any other land. I had to cure a couple of zombie villagers, and breed from there. I built a Villager Trading Machine - another Docm77 design - It's 100 block's away from the farm, and I use it to breed villagers and transport them over.
also too, when building the farm, it's easier to build it backwards from how the video does it - I.E. build the loot collection first, the transportation system second, and then the "villages" last.
Edit - I thought it might be helpfull to show you the thread of how I used a zombie spawner to get my villagers, so you don't have to transport you inital 3 villagers from the other villages.
Wow! That's a nice, challenging world you got. I've just read the thread and seen the pictures; very good idea indeed! If what I have in mind ends up failing, I'll try to do as you did with the zombie villagers.
Thanks for the hint about building it backwards, by the way.
We have Docm's design in the latest version and it works great. We built it in survival and I can recommend doing it over water in case you fall you won't die. The trickiest part is getting villagers in there. I recommend having an infinite villager spawner going. Once you get 2 in each pen make sure to destroy the infinite spawner. We had so many spawning we killed the server. If you have extra just kill them until you have 2-4 and you should be fine.
Im pretty sure in that video's description is a world download where the only thing in it is the iron golem farm. I'd download that and check it out (Haven't used my iron golem farm in a long time so couldn't tell you if it still does.)

That makes me happy (the fact that it still works fine).
Yes! luckily enough, the place I have reserved for building this happens to be over the ocean, since I figured I'll be falling a lot.

Thanks! In many way's it has been a huge pain in the fleshy part that makes up the backside of the top of my legs, but overcoming each hurdle feels like a huge accomplishment. any other map I would be building a enderman farm in the end by now, and wondering what was the point of still playing like all the worlds before - and I never would have had a reason for a golem farm, villagers, or a trading machine in the first place.
and you're welcome for the tip. - not only is it easier to build from the "ground" up in this game, it's also nice to be able to pick up iron while the machine is still under construction.

Nice! I want this to work... really bad, hehe.
