I am running into a problem, i am making a monsterfarm based on the tempel of doom; see link .
In this design monster drop on a fence with water running on top of it and die or keep 1/2 heart.
I made this monster farm but the monster don't get damage when faling in water on a fence.
I was wondering if there is another way to damage mobs while falling in water.

Unfortunately, the only solution is to make the fall longer or the water shallower. Each water block prevents 8 hearts worth of fall damage(I think). So,to kill, for example, zombies in 1 deep water, you'll need to drop them from 40 blocks. 3 blocks can protect them from any distance of fall.
I've heard people say that fences under water keeps the water from absorbing the fall damage, however that wasn't my experience. It helps, but in my experience it doesn't make mobs take full falling damage 100% of the time. Having the water run very thin where the mobs fall helps the most. When I used that method in the past I always included a lava blade to finish off any mobs that survived.
Nowadays I would probably have mobs fall on a solid block and have a piston push the items out to me.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
