I know you guys are wondering on how to survive your first day in minecraft.
Surviving the first night is so making me not play minecraft survival mode anymore, that is why I keep playing in creative. But there is some ways on how to survive your first day in minecraft.
The first thing you always need to do is build your first shelter made of dirt.
The important thing in surviving your first night is
LIGHTING!
Examples of this lighting are:
Torch
Lava
Redstone Lamp
Glowstone
Importance:
The thing why this lighting is important is because it helps dark, lighted.
Darkness is where mobs/monsters spawn.
The lighting must be at level 14 so monsters won't spawn and the lowest is light level is 7 where monsters can spawn.
Light level at 14 = Torch, Lava, Redstone Lamp, Glowstone
Light level at 7 = Redstone Torch
(what paulsoresjr said)
Torch is the only available lighting in your first day.
Crafting Recipe:
- imagine as stick
- imagine as charcoal or coal
- imagine it is nothing
The 2 ways of making lighting in your first day is this:
Getting coal from the ground. (If you are lucky to find one)
Getting charcoal from the trees. (If you have no luck to find coal)
Coal is good source in the underground, you only need a pick.
Charcoal can be smelted from trees you only need furnace, trees to be smelted and trees to be fueled.
If you have no other choice just craft a bed and sleep
Additional Info:
Effects of light
Hostile mobs, excluding slimes, silverfish, and Nether mobs except blaze, require a light level of 7 or less to spawn.
Blaze require light level 11 or less to spawn.
Silverfish spawn in light level 11 or lower, except on top of stone blocks, where they can spawn at any light level. They also cannot spawn within a 5 block distance of any player. These restrictions only apply when spawning from a monster spawner, and not from a Silverfish block.
Flowers only survive in light level 8 or higher. Flowers in light level lower than 8 will drop as an item unless they are exposed to direct moonlight.
Mushrooms only survive at light level 12 or less. Mushrooms in light level higher than 12 will only stay planted if they are on a mycelium block.
Snow and ice will melt at light level 12 or higher, and won't form at light levels above 10. Sunlight is ignored.
Trees will grow if the light in the block above a sapling is 9 or higher. Saplings in light level lower than 9 will uproot unless they are exposed to direct moonlight.
Crops will only grow in light level 9 or higher. Crops in light level of lower than 9 will uproot unless they are exposed to direct moonlight.
Grass will only spread from grass blocks in light level 4 or higher to dirt blocks in light level 9 or higher.
Ambience is triggered by chambers at least 3x3 that are entirely at light level 8 or lower.
Spiders and Cave Spiders will only become hostile at light level 11 or lower.
I did not survive my first night!
I was busy mining for ores then a creeper explode not knowing ABOVE me!
But I survived that blow when I got up to make my mine again (I was gonna get a stairs)
When I got to my chest, a creeper explode and I lost
Respawning near my mine, another creeper explode, skeletons and spiders cames next.
I only have a half one heart left then I feel into my mine. How is that for surviving the first night huh!
I barely could survive the Comic Sans font... But if we're on the forums, we most likely have survived our first night. Also, what other difficulty is there besides easy, medium, and hard? I mean peaceful just takes out mobs, keeps hunger from dropping, and restores health. You don't need the parentheses in the title, just say survival.

It makes no sense, you survive in peaceful mode?
That is so... lame and impossible.
That wont be called survival!
14%? What are you talking about? It's not quite a wall of text but it's more annoying than one...
Fine it is the light level, I forget sometimes.
The light level must be 14 so mobs won't spawn!
This is just me, every time I talk none understands, Like my classmates. hffff....

No, the light level has to be 8, if the light level has to be 14, you would need torches every second block.

Dude. I died on my first night. I didn't read up on anything minecraft and was building a house out of dirt on normal when a creeper came behind me. I even saw it, but I just wanted to hug it because it looked sad. I know everything there is to know about minecraft nowadays. I have learned from my experiences. You, can, too!

Maybe you should upload pictures of the different light levels. Newbs wouldn't know if the block they were on was Light level 7 or 8, would they?

In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

When I spawn I kill a few cows, grab some wood and jump down the nearest cave. I only emerge when I run out of inventory (or wood for torches). When I come out its usually a few in-game days later and I have at least full iron armour; this guide is not to help you stop being a noob, its to help you survive whilst you still are one.
I do not have any idea on what you are talking about!
