If your server is whitelisted, griefers are going to avoid you.
If your server is private, and only your friends play on it, there's nobody to grief you. If your "friends" would grief you then they aren't your friends- and you're a dumbass for believing they're your friends.
I see no loopholes, as long as the server owner exhibits common sense.
Common sense may make sense, but it ain't common lol
Method 5: Be a griefer (100% effective) <- Author's choice
Nobody can grief you if you have nothing to lose. Travel light, build nothing, and destroy everything.
But wait, if everyone is a griefer... there's nothing to grief... then no one will be a griefer... then they'll build... and griefers appear again!
It's a paradox!
How about making it underground where nobody would think it would be? I don't think a griefer would waste their time digging down and finding a base just smack in the middle, so making it underground would be nice.

Any griefer worth his salt has X-Ray textures, so hiding your goodies underground isn't going to protect them at all.
Most X-Ray textures leave the lava texture in place, as no one wants to fall inside lava while digging. You could create a house underneath an underground lava lake?
The thing is, and I know this from experience, that no one is going to do that. Plus, I dig into the ground pretty deep and dig tunnels around so I can get under houses and take what I need by getting into chests from the bottom. If there is stuff hidden deep under ground, I will find it. I also check around lava pools.
Of course, some server owners in the past have gotten suspicious of random single block holes connected to unlit tunnels underground.

Unless you're playing PvP/griefing server with just your friends anyway.
Encasing your house in stone seems a good idea. Or maybe find a server with the Zeppelin mod installed and make a flying castle. Now, which movie was that from?

Laputa?
At any rate, stone isn't going to save you. At all. Why? Because it takes anyone a few minutes seconds to make a pickaxe.

I am ninja'd far too often.
Especially not on SMP servers.

My hole-in-the-ground shelter begs to differ.

I'm finally back. See profile for details.
What server do you play on?

But then for some Reason a Server Admin Didn't Agree with me.
