Ok so... in survival mode and im mining glowstone to use as lighting in my castle. But it seems that its becoming a pain now. Glowstone only gives you 3 dust when you mine it and you need 4 to craft it into a block. Plus when you need alot of it, it becomes a pain. Another issue is that its non-renewable so once you clear an area you have to travel miles to find more and so on. I think their should be a way to farm glowstone! That way glowstone wont be as much as a pain. The Ghasts are fine because thats what makes the nether a scary challenge, but i still think glowstone needs some way of farming it. What do you guys think??
Its better to use Pumpkins-lighted for lighting as there better and the only reason you should use glowstone in really High end projects as it truely is a pain to get and Fortune 3 can only drop up to 4 dust on a block and the comment above is true on that fact.
I agree, it should be easy. Everything in Minecraft should be easy. They should add a mode where you have unlimited building materials and every item for free, and you never get hungry, and monsters don't attack.
I wonder, glowstone seems to "leak" from the ceiling of the nether, a bit like sap from trees.
I agree that glowstone should be a renewable resource, because of of its usefulness and rarity.
Perhaps that glowstone clumps can slowly regenerate downwards the more you spend time in the nether?

BACK in my day, when the Nether was fresh and exciting, it took nine whole pieces of glowstone dust. NINE, to recreate a single block of glowstone. These wipper-snappers have it too easy.
Dang. I'm torn. On one side,it would be nice to farm glowstone. But on the other, I remember how hard it used to be to get nine instead of four. I think that reason alone is enough for the original poster to stop whining and suck it up.

Well said sir. I remember those days myself. Personally I have no issues with the way glowstone is now. Granted next to obsidian it is probably the biggest pain in the *** to obtain. However...I don't think it should be easy to get. I would even venture to go as far as saying that they have made clay (even though no one really uses bricks) and wool to easy to get. I spent DAYS in a boat during alpha just to get an inventory full of clay. 4 dust for one glowstone block even if you only get 3 during a drop is not horrible. At least you dont have to expend another resource to form it (like baking with coal). If you want high end products...they should come at a price. Don't like it? Then thats why they have creative mode.
And if you still want to play survival a mod like TooManyThings will give you as many glow stones as you want.
The problem... for me at least... is that since I've installed it a few days ago I lost interest in gathering resources... which was my favorite aspect of the game, but that is just because I still suck at building
The upside to that is that now I can concentrate on building things, which can be a whole lot more fun... if you know what you are doing that is

Dont worry..... I was there too! i remember it.But i guess it wasnt a problem to me because i never used it back then cause i sucked at building. (still not the best) But im good now because i finished collecting all i need for my castle.
Villagers will trade emeralds for glowstone in the snapshots so in not too long it will be renewable. As of right now I make new resource gathering worlds and then move rare non-renewables I mine over to my main world either by transferring entire chests with McEdit or using TMI's multiple inventory save slots.
Completely legit? Not really. But a lot better than cheating items in if you're going for that survival feel.

Under no circumstances do I want villagers building ugly little houses in my world. That's my job. Link Removed
Challenging things are bad.
