Tired of being blown up by creepers, killed by skeletons, and being a hapless fool in the pvp enviorment?? YOu have come to the right place. This guide will teach you on how to fight mobs, combat techniques, and pvp help.
COMBAT TIPS
Weapons
Two main weapons bow and sword. Swords deal much more damage due to being melee but however is more risky. Despite this it is most peoples perfered method. Bows are slightly harder to obtain since you need atleast 2 stacks of arrows to be sufficient. Make sure to have a chicken farm for feathers and a durable shovel for gravel mining to get flint. Some people use flint and steel but be careful as you may set everything on fire. Tools (exepct for the hoe) can all deal out nice damage, espacially axes which is your second best melee option. Staring from stone swords are sufficient enouugh for combat.
Armor
Something is better than nothing aquire lether from cows if you can't seem to find a sufficient amount of iron/gold. Helmets and Boots provide minimal protection so always make a chestplate or leggings first. When you put on armor you'll notice a new bar that has shirts. Each shirt reduces 8% of damage taken so being fully in diamond armor can reduce 80% of all damage. Now thats protection!
Btw Chain armor is NOT the best diamond armor is. Chain armor is a little better than gold but a little worse than iron.
Hunger and food
Hunger is always important always make sure to have a decent pile of food with you. With 9+ food pops you will slowly auto-heal. After 3 and below (correct me if I'm wrong) you cannot sprint. When it's empty you keep on taking damage until you have 4 hearts left. Cooked food is always better make sure to have a animal farm though bread and melons work, rotten flesh in a pinch. While fighting when hungry eat in a safe place. Golden apples regenerates your health temporaily and restores 2 hunger which is great. NEVER EAT SPIDER EYES!!
Critical hits and knockback
If you know this you're almost invincible and TURN YOUR PARTICLES ON TO MAX. While fighting you notice sometimes starts come out on impact. This is a critical hit where damage is greatly increased. To perfrom one you have to hit a mob in the air so jumping while attacking can be deadly. Some techniques for getting crits can be jumping onto a cobweb to slow your fall and while going down in water. To get critical hits from arrows hold the right click to draw you bow back until its all the way back. The more you draw it back the greater the damage and power. So to get critical arrows simply draw it all the way back and you will get a arrows that looks somthing like a shooting star. Knockback can greatly be increased be hitting a foe in mid sprint which is great for repeling creepers.
Potions
Potions can be a powerful weapon that can even boost your power, speed, etc. Putting gunpowder in a potion recipie turns it into a splash potion that can be thrown by right clicking it. That means you can make a potion of poison add gunpowder to make it throwable and congratulations you have a powerful 1-use weapon. Since drinking a potion with a positive effect can e time consuming you can also a throw a lets say:splash potion of healing at your feet you get a free heal. Potions are NOT stackable.
Misc techniques :Flint and Steel:
Feel like going pyromaniac? Use flint and steel while a enemy is pursuing you to set it on fire for a easy kill (it doesnt mean that they are 100% vulnerable) If you're going really extreme use tnt too to blow up mass enemies. For a suicide mission draw a creeper into a mob of mobs and let it blow up there.
The fishing rod is another powerful weapon if used correctly. You can use to drag the foe towards you to get beaten up, use the terrain to your advantage to make it eg go into cacti or into a cliff, or use it from a high place reel the mob up to you then let it go to take fall damage.
FIGHTING MOBS
Zombie
Considered the easiest mob to kil. Quickest way is to simply approach it and beat it up. If you wanna play it safe: strike run back and strike.
Skeleton
A tough mob to kill with it's rapid-fire arrows. Try to hit it at a distance with your bow or for all the melee fans approach it in a zig-zag formation so it's harder for it to aim for you. If you manage to get a skeletons arrow to hit another mob they will fight each other (exepct for creepers) in this case leave them alone and finish up the winner.
Spiders
Fairly easy to kill having the upper ground or fighting in a flatter land is afk. Dangerous in areas with lots of walls but this means free crits. Just watch out for cave spider poison
Creeper
Abuse knockback or using bows is the soloution. If you hear that familar hissing behind you use you reflexes to turn around and strike or just run to minimize damage so always hold your sword in hand.
Enderman
Be constantly alert look behind you at all times and prepare to strike with your sword. Wear a pumpkin on your head so you can look at them freeley with raging them.
Zombie Pigmen
Once you attack one all of them in the nether nearby attack you. Just sit there swing your sword like crazy while they come at you should'nt be that hard.
ALL MOBS IN THE NETHER ARE FIREPROOF
Ghasts
When the fireballs come at you hit them (with anything) to deflect it back and pray it makes it's mark. Arrows can also be used but it's not a OHKO
Blazes
Dangerous mob to fight approach it doging the fireballs and beat it up or use arrows. They can also use weak melee attacks.
Magmacubes and Slimes
Pretty simple mob to kill. Don't let numbers overwhelm you. Once you start smacking it with your sword
PvP
PvP is dangerous as you are going against real people not cpu controlled derps. i would divide PvP into 4 types. Kit PvP uasally feature capture the flag and each kit has it's own specail ablities. Free PvP is gathering resources to make your own weapons and armor and the fighting happens during that process or in a arena. Factions is just about the same a free PvP exepct people divide up into clans or factions. Upgrade PvP is the same as kit pvp exepct you can use the money system to upgrade your favorite kit.
Upgrade and kit PvP
First experiment with a bunch of kits provided and thier ablities. See which one suits you best. Then figure out how to counter other kits skills and take on people with lower armor than you or a lower weapon. Never challenge a person with better weapons or armor alone unless you cornered him/her bad. Once you feel confident take on your own kit. If you play upgrade PvP likeley going to be hectic with all those upgrades people have. Play cautiously and don't let your team loose if it also relies off a life pool for score and let the big-shots on your team take on the heavly upgraded. Take on people your own size at first and as you get more powerful go on against more powerful people. Sprint while jumping for maximum running away speed. These kinds are my personal favorite since I don't know any good free PvP servers.
For Kit PvP try http://minecraftctf.com/ Upgrade PvP ip coming soon
Factions and Free PvP
If you go factions join one or create one with a few friends for free go off into a area where there is not alot of people or homes and where also the terrain can serve you good. Try to blend it in with the world (places to hide bases coming later) so it won't eaisly be grifed or invaded. Also don't try to use techniques that you see on YouTube too often (if the video has alot of views espacially) as there is a decent chance that the person knows the trick and might counter it. If you are a faction person hide your storage room in a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY (million more very's) secure place. Make your base hidden or something hard to break and thats not flammable. Since likely it will say "you can not destroy in the territory of -factionname-" it's really hard to invade anything. So make your base has no ways to get in from the outside so you can abuse the "home" command. When breaking into a faction go underground to see if they are dumb enough to not protect it vertically then use TNT. When raiding items always take the more precious stuff first notoriously a powerful weapon in case trouble comes.
Traps and home defense
Branch mine landmine
Make a branch mine deeper underground. Then in one branch randomly stuff a pressure pad in the middle with TNT stretching all the way back and fro. If it works free strip mining and cobblestone
Soulsand Rage
Use the slowness of soulsand in places (like hallways) so thier notion would be to dig down. Below down make a classic style mob trap that flows all the way down to a large hole (and I mean deep that even screws feather falling) so that when they fall you can collect thier sutff.
Dispenser and Door
Make a boutton power a iron door and dispener nearby thats loaded with potions of poison. To play with greed put a diamonod block within sight past the iron door.
(Im going to make a link to minecraft wiki listing traps but however while I was typing this and opened a new tab to get the link from minecraft wiki internet exploer 9 keeps screwing up and opening minecraft wiki on the tab I'm writing this killing all my work -.-. So link coming soon )
Diffrent weapons
This time you have a slightly larger variety of weapons. Spash potions become more important actually very important in PvP. So time to go creeper hunting for gunpowder for a ingredient for potions and TNT. Flint and steel can rage your foes with the fire stuttering thing. Buckets of lava and water can stall, push back, and potentiallly kill your foes. Wolves are your best friends. Keep atleast 3 or more to have a formidable force. NEVER PUNCH SOMEONE IN ARMOR
Enchant Enchant Enchant Enchant Enchant
Smite and bane of arthopods may be amazing in single player but useless in PvP. Aim for fire aspect, Sharpness, Knockback for swords. All bow enchantments are good. Everything is good for armor too. When enchanting a lets say Diamond sword make multiple diamond swords so incase you get a fail you still have a backup. Dn that means you need a helload of XP so make a grinder in sercert.
HIding Chests
No one likes items getting stolen from chest duh. Luckily there are several ways to hide chests.
Jump!!
You can still open chests in midair so you could put a chest out of sight that can only be found when jumping to see it.
Incenrator
Just hide a chest inside of an incenerator since they're not flammable
In the ceiling
Wooden Ceilings best. The chest should blend in fairly well (assuming the foe isnt using a texture pack)
PLUGINS!!!
If the server has plugins that let you protect chests USE IT!!!
Hiding a base
Idealy there should only have a secret way out not in. (use /sethome then /home) In a mountainside seal your mancave with smooth stone or dirt cobblestone clearly says SOMEONE CAME HERE. It's also a good idea to make the base in a risky area.
Care to explain preparation? Like rigging up some landmines in a cave just for an unexpected ambush? But the number one rule of MC combat is that the best internet connection wins. No other tactic can save you from an opponent who is closer to the server. Wolves might, since they're server-side.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
All these pony-based signatures aren't going to win these people any respect.
You are not able to sprint under 3 hunger not 6
Maybe write something about potions (fun fact: someone, who is affected by the weakness potion, isnt able to deal damage with standard punches).

Actually it is sometimes good when you lag if you know how to use it!
Lag means: Your computer recieves AND SENDS packages later, but that also means: A mob or player might think, that you are in one place but you are actually behind him slicing him. He sees you with a delay, he doesnt know, that you lag, you just have to guess, where he moves and hit there or if he just stands still circle arround and hit with the sword. You get the effect, that the hits get summed together and sent in ONE package (often dealing 50 to 150 hearts of damage, which is reduced by armor) but this effect can be used against you too. General rule: No bow if any of the duelants lags because of reasons named above.
I'm doing the pvp section last and yes lag can be your most deadly weapon but think about it. During a lag spike where everyones seems to be standing around derping don't you think your foe is actually also making a move??
