So I built a mob spawner/xp farm. It is build correctly and was working great until earlier today it just stopped and hasn't started since then. I am on a server playing so idk if that matters. I don't understand why it would just stop but any help would be great!

If you are on a server, are there others on at that same time? If someone else is using a mob grinder based on a dungeon spawner, particularly one using a design that stores large numbers of spawned mobs for mass slaughter with splash potions, then they may have up to several hundred mobs in the grinder system at once. Multiplayer servers generally have a mob limit of around 70 to 120 hostile mobs per player currently connected, depending on what sort of plugins they may have installed.
On the server I mostly play on, I built just such an XP grinder based around a captured Zombie Dungeon spawner. When I have 300 or so mobs in the hopper at the top of the drop shaft waiting to be dropped and then finished off, no hostile mobs spawn anywhere else on the server. My fellow players can explore the Nether or the surface at night without fear of hostile mobs (spawners elsewhere still work, of course, so blaze spawners and dungeons are still a danger). Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes bad if they were hoping to run around tricking creepers into being shot by skeletons. Darkroom-based item grinders (yeah,we use those too) will also not work while the grinder mobs are hogging all of the hostile mob slots.
