Sandstone is a useful building block if your stuck in a desert.
So the most useless item would be TNT. Its hard to make and is really useless, and if anything would kill you instead of helping you survive.

Gold is actually very useful. It is renewable and good for potions. It's GREAT for enchanting. You have never seen a gold pickaxe with unbreaking IV and silk touch. Pop that out, get an iron pick with fortune 3, and bathe in diamonds.
Gold sword with fire aspect, sharpness, and looting is also mildy OP.
All you guys saying blocks to be non-useful such as sandstone or enderstone are sadly mistaken. Those blocks are used for decoration just like every other block in minecraft. Its what minecraft is all about, making stuff. So if you guys are like "Omg sandstone it has no use UGH Notch!!!!!!" then you obviously don't know what minecraft is.
why so many people saying gold? ever since powered rails were introduced gold has become very useful indeed. who wants to walk all the way down to their layer 12 mine and back up again? If you say gold is useless then you're also saying minecarts and rails are useless.
most useless is rotten flesh.
edit: also, the watch is not useless, I always keep one in my inventory in case I decide to explore a cave and don't want to come up at night
You can find a use for most anything ... but in all honesty I would say saddles ... they just end up accumulating in a forgotten chest somewhere in my worlds ... the novelty wore off quickly when I realised you couldn't control the pig ...
GUYS. USELESS.. MEANS NO USE.
Not something YOU don't like.
Gravel has a mutha****in use.
Gold has a mutha****in use.
Watches have a mutha****in use.
A saddle has a mutha****in use.
Wish for me to continue?
The only thing in Minecraft that doesn't have a use..
is nothing.
Why would Notch/Jeb spend their time adding an item that has no use?
Are you guys serious?
If counting depreciated as useless, the golden hoe IS useless. The wooden and cobble hoes are also renewable. (and easier to get) Just like clipRect versus drawRect/fillRect in the java API :tongue.gif:
I think leather is the most useless item in game because of it's low drop rate (I can kill ten cows and only get 3 leather) and it's low usefulness. Why would I want to go roaming around my world just to make the worst armor in game?
Whenever i find them, i die a death of creepers and lava.

Cobwebs make string, care to re-think what you said?
After that would be a rotten flesh

How are flowers useless? You can make dyes out of them.
dead bushes are useless too.
You need an enchantment to get it, nothing grows on it, you can't till it. Nope. Nothing.
Decoration.
But that is not an item. The glass block is an item, not a 'misplaced glass block'.
Any more challengers?
Decoration ain't a use.
Decoration ain't a need.
