This seems like a cool system, but perhaps it could beinfit from some some sort of communications mod? "Press ctrl-F to request food" type system in which everyone is assigned a function, perhaps including a mini map?
I just updated the op with a coding system for easier communication... see if you understand it :smile.gif:

I think that the organisation is the most important part. I think I saw this 'over the counter' in the old thread: it is how I imagine the entrance to the storeroom to be.

This way the miners can deposit their materials without having to enter the room and clutter it, if you will. The storeroom guy can then sort the deposits. I forgot to add a 'miners' chest which could go there aswell, containing stuff for the miners such as picks that the storeroom guy made.
-img snip
This is how I imagine the inside of the room. The deposits could go here. These chests could be used to make new tools, to smelt or whatever else for, and when the chests get full the stuff can be moved to the mass storage, further from the drop off point. (In my last picture.)
-img snip
I created a crappy diagram to help my examples. The dark gray area is unmined the the light area is open. Red is the mining tunnels, brown are the chests in my picture. The area with
dark bits is the furnace room.
The big brown area is a suggested area for the tree farm and the big green area is the
suggested area for the wheat (or food) farm. The big blue area is the mass storage area.
This is ofcourse the stuff that has been on my mind since I saw this thread and thought I would see what everybody else thinks. I have obviously missed what everybody else has done first time round so it may be different or similar. :smile.gif:
The storage thing is pretty much sorted. To do with your layout, it would be great for a base, but you overlooked a few things. Level. We use a staircase to get down, and the trunk goes parallel to the staircase. All rooms will be along the staircase...
This is for 2 reasons. Ease of access, and to be out of the way of branches. With this, everything is out of the way of the branches, and is easily accessible via the staircase.
Something nice to make would be a room at the bottom floor and one at the surface.
They'd both have a variety of buttons and lights.
Every light would have a sign below it that says what's going on when the light is on.
So if people down there would need food they'd simply press the 'Food' switch and at the surface they'd see the light and they'd press the 'OK' button and send down a batch of food...Or something.
Too much effort to set up really. The coded calls would be just as easy to do. It's quick to type, can be done anywhere, and is easy to specify where from. Remembering that the majority of stuff will be going on underground too. Only 3 people won't be actively mining
Yeah, I forget the time though, it's on fridays right?
Yes... But remember time zones. 11pm GMT Friday. Figure out what your timezone is compared to that, and you will know your time. So for eastern america it is 5pm, for east coast aussies, it is 9am sat... You get the picture. Just figure out your time zone, then get the time
Get dyndns a free place where you can have a domain like domain.dyndns.org for free. So you don't have to keep sending out ip addresses. They do have programs that allow you to update the ip automatically when it changes.
This sounds awesome! I'd love to help out. But where is it even at? Or do you not announce that until you start? Its not entirely clear where this dwarf mining is held.
Wow, this looks cool! Are you looking for anymore volenteers because I would love to help. I like your system and possibly would like to suggest new ideas. If you have room, PM me the IP!

It is being held underground in a place that multiple dwarves can mine (an SMP server)... IP to come.
Very good job on updating the OP. That is going to be great for new people, especially with the run-down of the mining part. I know this would've helped greatly for me the last time when I was new and had been given little to no information on the specifics of the branching. If the people who will join the next test will read it all through and follow it I'm sure we'll have much better success at getting started and becoming efficient.
I'd like to add one little detail to the code part; Until the minecart system is started, the code for runners could be "R" and whenever a person needs new tools etc or their inventory emptied they'd call out "R to A/B", and perhaps specify if they needed food or so.
Yeah, the code is still in development, so we need work on it.
The op still needs a lot more done to it, I'm just not thinking well enough to write it so it can be understood... The beginning the mine section needs to be updated. There will be 2 different methods, and will be much more in depth

I can do all of the jobs, except explorer.
I am a wimp when it comes to dungeons.
Yeh, sure. I'll have to start getting names again. The questions is, are you available for the test??

Awesome :biggrin.gif:
Keep an eye on both the thread and op, as the op is being updated constantly, with a couple more big changes to go.
And as I've said to others, can you make the test???

EDIT: I would really love the job of soreroom guy no.1
