I personaly think the direction Minecraft is heading in is the right one. Of course I or anyone else does not have the right to declare their opinion right and supreme above all others. Only Mojang can do that.
I'm not a fan of RPG elements being added to a sandbox game. That said I could probably live with everything that has been added EXCEPT the void fog. That needs to go or get a toggle ffs. Anything that limits creativity is a bad idea.
but I don't like NPCs or EXP. It takes away some great feelings from teh game that I used to enjoy.
explain, please, I hear this a lot, but no one seems to peg WHY they feel this way? XP? a number you see at the bottom of your screen. If it were not for XP Mobs would only be for their resources, something I find mundane, because their should be some form of higher power gained, such as when you fight beings in the real world, you physically become weaker or stronger, change happens, and XP shows how this change can happen in Minecraft.
Towns? disable them in the options, that is why it is there, for people like you.
Potions? Enchantments? NPc's can not even use them, they are not exactly easy to create, and are just another game mechanic that allows you to expand upon your power, not some mythical brew or sword of bane, it is a bunch of code inside of a game that allows more balancing and more focus on combat oriented playing, something everyone should WANT.
The boss? The end is a realm where you can not even attempt to enter without the aid of slaying tons of endermen and then entering a portal by WILL, this meaning there is no leash tugging at your collar the entire game, telling you, HEY if you don't go here, you loose the game. This is Minecraft, there is nothing of the sort happening in this world.
You could just as well be satisfied with Strongholds as your endgame, they give the best feel for adventurers in my book, the end is not even necessary to enjoy exploration and adventure, ergo I still have Minecraft nostalgia to this day.
what feeling did you loose and where did you last put it? because as far as I can tell this is all smoke and mirrors, a diversion for wanting a reason to complain about change, and "be cool like the rest of the crowd", so put your glasses on, or explain, please.

I can't speak for that gentleman, but I dislike XP because it gives a grind feel to the game. I know you don't have to do it but just the fact that its there will pressure certain types of people into grinding which turns a relaxing sandbox game into a stressful grind. Which is not very fun IMHO.

thank you, I feel this is the first legitimate complaint about 1.9 I have EVER read, the other formal complaints all tie back to stupid arguments the proponents of 1.9 keep using, such as "don't like them? don't use the new features"
As I know that the "Don't use them" arguments is far too invalid when brought into the Multiplayer world.
I can honestly understand where someone would assume they HAVE to get experience, or else they feel they are not achieving anything in the game that is significant, I would go so far as to suggest that Experience be given under everyday circumstances, cutting down a tree, one experience, mining 10 dirt blocks, one experience, placing ten blocks merits one experience, or randomly place experience orbs in all blocks, but only if you use the appropriate tools.
If this was the case, would you honestly still feel pressured or inadequate to the point where you want experience instead of having fun? At that point the whole game has a purpose, just like a score meter, only you can spend the score on something practical, instead of having a end game score pop up for you to brag about.
I know that does not solve enchanting but I do have a solution to advert enchantment, it would be akin to several "enhancement" systems on this forum, but furthermore it would be an ALTERNATIVE to enchantment, meaning, they both co-exist in the Minecraft world, Enhancement being the cogs and gears of minecraft, piston driven mechanics, and others.
PLUS the whimsical enchantment system, but more on enhancement.
Enhancing objects such as your pick would yield better results for gems, or enhancing redstone would alter the properties of the redstone so that you can run the wire vertically up a wall, effectivly changing the color (lets say bluestone), making it only connect with another enhanced redstone of another color (say greenstone), that connects to original redstone, making articulation of wires possibly smaller and more compact, and giving the redstone axis a little update.
Enhancement could just as well live side by side with the magic,
constantly bringing ones features to a level with the others features, never unbalancing because there are two legs to stand on.
Wolves: Everyone whined, now they are pretty much a staple of every Minecraft player.
Hunger: Everyone thought it was a stupid idea and shouldn't be implemented, now that it is no one complains.
Pistons: I whined, and anyone who sees my usual posts know that is INCREDIBLY rare (I expected pistons to be the industrial-themed machines seen in the mod and that biased my perspective). Now I use them regularly and make sticky pistons as high a priority as diamond when cave exploring.
Basically, whenever there is an update, people whine. Then later on, they shut up and enjoy the update. The sooner we understand this cycle, the harder it will be to **** us off with aggressive posts about how stupid new updates are.
bought this game at Alpha, have always loved playing it. I am welcoming to all additions, especially breeding (I like making farms :tongue.gif:). I will admit, I was afraid of the XP bar at first, thinking it was going to lead to leveling up your character and focus around that. Thankfully, though, it's for enchantments of tools which is a great idea.

There's a difference between "This game sucks" and "I don't like this game."
People only complain because of speculation. 'Tis the cycle of these forums. Here's the (very simplified) rundown.
1. Notch announces new update is 'in the works.' Doesn't say when it'll be released.
2. Information leaks about new features.
3. People talk and speculate about what to do with all the new features.
4. That one retard on the forums overpseculates and believes it'll be the end of Minecraft because..well, here's an example: ('Oh dear god, Endermen are gonna remove all blocks everywhere! OMFG I'LL NEVER PLAY MINECRAFT AGAIN BECAUSE I'M TOO LAZY TO REPAIR MY 5X5 DIRT CUBE HOUSE') ((That is, if they even have that good grammar...most don't.))
5. Other people believe in that one retard's idea.
6. Forums go apeshit.
7. Update is relased, forums calm down.
8. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Except that Endermen DID move player placed blocks when they were first released. So, in your example the one person was right.
I've been around since about 2 weeks before the Halloween Update. I like most of the new updates. Though it feels as Minecraft gets further into it's development it lost the unexplored feeling for me. Back in Alpha, I was eager to explore every mountain, every cave, and every interesting piece of terrain. Now it feels like I just go to caves for ore instead of exploring.

This is more a case of becoming accustomed to the game and less to do with the updates.

Don't fear the creeper, yeah he's in your mine
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I've played since, believe it or not, prior to survival came out. (A little bit after 'creative-mode' multiplayer came out)
Anyways, I always remember Notch talking about EXACTLY what he's adding now, so everyone who's complaining... Well, this has always been the plan, sorry you didn't know that.

Best game ever: Ace of Spades FREE FPS minecraft-like game.
Interesting to see all the praise for the new stuff coming from the Infdev and Indev guys, who predate my presence in Minecraft, and I've been playing this game for a year now. A LOT of the anti-new-feature arguments say that these features are killing the game for you people, even though you've been playing the game for well over a year now and probably want new stuff, heh. Then again, most people who pitch these arguments joined in mid-beta, heh.
I started in the middle of alpha and i kind of do agree and kind of not. Because i dont really like the potions. But i like the idea of spending your levels to upgrade weapons and enderdragons So i agree 50%
Wow I'm surprised at how many of us indev (or pre-indev) players are commenting. As an example, have you tried playing Classic mode? Think of that, just with half the features and no Multiplayer, and you have the very first build of the game. No one back then would have believed how far Minecraft has come. The game has gone through more than five substantial gameplay changes (not including every single "minor" update), so I think it's safe to say that a lot of change can only benefit a game that has already changed a ton in the past.

besides that, if you do not like the new features and such (im not really liking it too)
just simply don't use it, its 100% optional, you wouldnt die because not drinking a potion !
