Yup, well it's also because I like farming. On the current world I flattened terrain specifically for the purposes of crop fields.
Other people have grown to appreciate hoes in the game because they do so many things, food for you and animals,
and they (hay-bales) can be used with noteblocks to play the banjo sound, which admittedly I haven't mastered yet, I'm thinking how to make a cool
song with it though.
Hoes are just practical for terrain exploring despite the shovel being a far superior weapon in case of surprises.
Also, adding on to my scythe comment, the netherite hoe in particular takes me back to a secret weapon in Bendy and the Ink Machine, something that people long have tried to recreate in Minecraft. I wonder if tools can be given custom attack values in maps...

Gives me an idea for a stadium duel
Reaper Duels
compete for title of the Grim Reaper.
Probably has been done before on hardcore servers
but I'd rather keep my world so it can be done over and over again at the time of the choosing.
Yeah hoes have a lot of uses. They're not supposed to be used as weapons though.
and scythes don't exist in the game yet.
I do believe a few more practical uses for hoes should be added, as well as more valid reasons to craft diamond or netherite hoes.
I haven't thought of those solutions yet, but perhaps some wise people on this forum can come up with some interesting suggestions for that.

9. stack of torches
off-hand: stack of torches
If i'm above ground/outdoors, 8 is typically a clock; if i'm in the mines/caving it's a water bucket. If I'm travelling/exploring, 7 is the current map; if I'm caving, outside at night hunting mobs, or otherwise likely to find myself in combat it's food.

A pickaxe, a sword, and an axe. You can never be too careful
