On my main world, I excavated a mineshaft to a larger size, and decided to call it my home. I was sure that this was going to be my forever place, but by looking at it you could not know that. So once I got farther in-game by going to the nether and enchanting, I improved it with a nice quartz enchanting place and glowstone. It now looked like a forever home, but a really ugly unorganized forever home. I need some ideas, asap.
Updates
1. I made the bottom trims of my walls quartz. I also added more glowstone. What should my walls be made out of?
4. More symetrical placement for the glowstone blocks (fits with #2)
5. Skylights (might be difficult depending on how far underground this house is)
6. Generally more decoration

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. I will face my fear. I will let it pass over me and through me, and when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
You've got a lot of wall space so to brighten things up and add interest I would recommend making a map wall by placing jack o lanterns in the wall in a 3x3 pattern then mapping out a 3x3 area around your base and put those maps on the wall in item frames.
Your house looks cool. You can put coblestone or wood planks at walls to make better appearence of your house. I am sure that is your house is will be awesome when you build underground garden or other cool thing!
I chose sandstone for the walls in the poll, but I wouldn't make them completely out of sandstone, I would use stone bricks as the main part of the wall and then "pillars" of sandstone. I think that stone brick and sandstone look quite nice together.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Make actual rooms, lol.
One room can be your storage room, one can be you're enchantment table room, one can be a nether portal room, etc.
If you're unsure what to make a room for, just copy the Minecraft Wiki. xD
