We killed the Ender Dragon today on our 1.8 server. She didn't drop any experience at all. We were running around underneath the fireballs like fools, waiting for the orb storm to begin, and... nothing. Just an egg and a portal.
This is NOT intended, nor are invisible XP orbs, at least, not that I've ever seen. Maybe you have doMobLoot set to false on the server, which will also affect XP drops, or possibly the server did it specifically for the dragon so nobody can get an advantage (not that the XP is worth much anyway; I myself already have everything I'll enchant by then; of course, you still only get one dragon egg so that doesn't really make much sense).
ETA: There is apparently a rendering bug with XP orbs in 1.8, though they only become invisible in certain situations.

Hmm, I don't have any funny settings like doMobLoot false afaik. I did switch over from vanilla to Spigot but have adjusted almost no default settings. I'm thinking about just resetting the End and killing her again to see if it happens another time. Not sure if I can convince the troops to gather for it another time, though.
Is this a known bug, or did we just get lucky?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Yes I think hes right.
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
