I have a question. If the current single-player world I'm on was created around the time of Beta 1.4 or late 1.3, then would it not change as Notch rolls out updates? I never had any weather and I have no tall grass. I am still however, able to craft trapdoors so I think that I might be in the wrong biome for this type of thing to occur. My friend says that I need to reload the chunks. Thoughts on this?

Umm, wellI had a old world too when 1.6 came and I can craft trapdoors but I dont have tall grass or dead bushes. So I think if you had a old world the tall grass and dead bushes won't grow. :sad.gif:

there will be weather but some biomes are less likely to get rain and you have to generat new chunks to get wild grass
Your old world won't have any of the new naturally generated things like tall grass, but you should be able to have weather. If you go out far enough and generate new chunks, it will have new things.
As far as my own worlds go, every world will update. Any biome with grass will have tall grass occasionally, and rain comes every so often, though you may need to leave a certain area before you can see it, as rain doesn't fall all over the map at once.

About the weather: If it has never rained before, it can take quite a while before the rain gets triggered. After that, it will rain about every MC week.
About the tall grass: This will only spawn at newly generated chunks. You will have to go to a place where you have never been to generate new chunks, and these chunks will have tall grass in them, if they are of the correct biome.
I am not completely sure with what he means with reloading the chunks. If he means actual reloading, this won't help. If he means rerendering, then it should help, but you will lose everything you built on these chunks. To rerender, you will also need an external program, like MCEdit.

I think he meant wander out far enough to a new chunk, and then come back to the first chunk so that it is refreshed.
The weather was explained already so I wont go into that. The generating I will say that this is not knew you came around in beta so you probably don't know but in the Halloween update (nether update) pumpkins were added these only generated in newly generated chunks. Tall grass is the same and it will be the same for anything like this. Even if you go to the end of your map and come back tall grass wont generate.
I have a world that I started pre-nether update so I have to go pretty far to get pumpkins or see different biomes.

If he meant that, it won't work. I mentioned it in my post, and called it 'actual reloading'.
