From the video it looks nice, but what other implications does it have? For instance, if you put it underground, can it shunt hundreds of blocks in one push?
^^ You would need a space at some point to move those blocks to, I recall the mod only capable of pushing 7-9 blocks or something, so it wouldn't be OP for digging.
I already have plans for a working drawbridge that will involve throwing gravel upwards, and "catching" it with a 2nd set of pistons that will be timed to extend once the gravel has travelled up past them. Closing this 2nd set of pistons will then cause the gravel to fall back down on the 1st set, removing the bridge and readying the system for its next use.
I'm thinking a fancy yet not very fast cobble generator that controls the flow of lava and water and set on a delay so that it will simultaneously release water and lava, then push the cobble forward while turning off the liquids.
You could use it to maximize efficiency in your cactus and mob farms.
You could havethe pistons move the items via throwing over some distance directly into your home. You would no longer need to use water for collection.
Conversely, they canbe used as a "sealed door" mechanism where to pistons facing each other contract to let you in and extend to close the passage behind you.
You could even make a secret passage if only there was a way to "glue" blocks to pistons (Hello SLIMEBALLS! ) so you can use them to seal a passage behind you with seemingly natural rock/brick/gravel/sand.
I would love Notch and Jeb to add this as another "official mod" like the smooth lighting one.
Well, if my mind treats me right to what theis "piston" is, I'm going to build digging machines (Back hoe, front end loader, snow plow, ext) So yeah, that would be pretty cool. He'd better add horses too :smile.gif: And copper ore for making computers (I know about redstone already)

A controllable flood gate as been needed for a long time. Instead of launching blocks, I would prefer to have blocks stick to it's surface. Maybe if you put a 1/2 block on it's surface, then blocks don't stick.
Would also be nice if you could put switches/pressure plates on the block. Step on the block and it tosses you or push against it and it activates. switches should be placeable on the base also for controlling it.
I know what I'd use a piston to do. Push a grass block down to the bedrock level. Because waiting for grass to grow down my staircase is very tiresome.
Pistons are not 'probably being added'. As Jeb stated in twitter.. They will ONLY have a CHANCE of becoming a feature of the game IF the author of the Pistons mod submits it (the source code) to Jeb and asks for it to be implemented. Notch and Jeb have no control over the mod or implementation of it unless this happens. Jebs tweet was specifically posted to encourage the author to submit it to him (or to get us to bully him into it XD).
I do love this mod and hope the author does submit it to Mojang. But if he does not, I guess I will consider installing it as a mod.

This is the first mod I've seen that seems rather nice. It doesn't give you absolutely everything like most other mods. It would also work as a floodgate which minecraft really needs right now.
Yes! This could bring griefing down a whole ton! (Until they grief the lava and water and piston D=)
And yes, the guy who made it HAS submitted it to Jeb and Notch already, so I hope they will be implemented soon!

Top view looks pretty similar.
Where is a piston pointing towards the empty space in the center. Tie them to a pressure plate, add a slight delay and BLAM.

Can't wait for that to come as an official addition.
A piston isn't the thing that goes between your wheels.
That is what a piston is.
But it would have to be gravel :sad.gif:
