This topic is my personal list of things people might know about Minecraft. Now, it isn't a "make a blah by using blah blah" list. It isn't a list of things like "Minecraft is a game!" or "I like building things" or "I think that this because I know these things" either.
It is simply a list of things you might not know, but, in hindsight, you wish you could have known.
Of course, some of them might be wrong, some biased ever so slightly by my experiences, but I tried my hardest to give you guys 100% facts. Without further ado, let me introduce my first actual thread that might possibly help people:
Tips and Tricks that Might Help You in Minecraft and on the Forums:
1. Minecraft was made, originally, by one guy. His name is Notch. He lives in Sweden, he has a hat, and he is a millionaire.
2. Minecraft is made out of math. Really, complicated math that determines weather or not there’s a block in one particular area.
3. Occasionally, the math screws up, and we get large sheer cliff faces or oceans where you just put your house around four minutes ago. Those are called Chunk Errors.
4. A chunk is 16 by 16 blocks, and extends from the bedrock to the skybox, which is the build limit.
5. Clouds, when they are 3D, are six levels below the skybox.
6. When you go into a cloud, you can’t see a darned thing. Don’t build your house in the clouds. They go through walls.
7. When using a large ladder area to catch yourself, don’t hit the small area on the top half of the ladder.
8. The legs of a creeper aren’t attached to the body. They kind of float, sort of.
9. A block has 16 pixels per side.
10. A group of 64 blocks of the same type is called a stack.
11. You can’t directly place objects in front of furnaces, it just opens the furnace menu.
12. Coal is EVERYWHERE. Don’t risk your life to find it.
13. Using gold as armor isn’t too smart. It has the same durability as leather.
14. A Ghast is usually larger then your house. They look small, but they’re just really far away.
15. Zombie Pigmen drop cooked pork, but they can overwhelm you easily. Is the pork worth the risk? You need to decide that BEFORE jumping into a pack of them.
16. When you have diamonds in your inventory, you WILL fall into lava within five minutes. This is a proven fact.
17. Squid aren’t squid. They don’t have beaks.
18. After dying wool, you can’t dye it any other color.
19. You CAN, however, dye sheep.
20. Punching a sheep is the only way to get the wool. You can make wool out of string. Yes. I know that. Stop telling me, and read the post next time.
21. Spiders CAN climb sandstone. They can climb any solid block. Even while it’s on fire, or if it’s cactus, or live TnT.
22. Sand and gravel are the only objects that obey gravity.
23. A sign will dry up water.
24. Light isn’t very waterproof.
25. Dungeons are considered rare, so be sure to remember where you found it.
26. Creepers detonate rapidly. Keep moving.
27. Explosions will still damage you in water.
28. TnT can’t be picked up after placing it.
29. Bookcases serve no purpose besides to decorate.
30. Sugarcane was once called reeds.
31. Baking a cake is a considerable achievement.
32. Yahtzee has reviewed Minecraft.
33. Don’t go to the nether for fun. It isn’t very fun at all. It just kills you.
34. Lightstone is very inefficient, as it takes nine units of powder to make one, but only gives you one powder when broken.
35. You don’t get the bucket back when using lava to light furnaces.
36. Digging straight down never works.
37. Use a ladder every other block.
38. Squids can spawn in your tub.
39. Minecarts can be used as rocket ships.
40. A TnT cannon always seems like a good idea at the time. Sixty long fights with creepers, and a brand new hole where your cannon used to be later, it might not be such a worthwhile pursuit.
41. If you discover something in Minecraft, someone else already has. This is a proven fact.
42. At forty-two posts, your title on the forums changes to a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference.
43. Herobrine is a fake, always has been a fake, and always will. Using it to troll doesn’t make you funny nor smart, it just embarrasses you.
44. Punching trees is an acceptable pass-time in Minecraft.
45. If you make a Let’s Play, you aren’t unique. There are over 500 of them running right now.
46. While making a tutorial video, don’t cuss up a storm.
47. If a topic on the forums gets locked, don’t start it again.
48. Snow never respawns.
49. Nether portals are a terrible addition to your house. It makes screams of torment and spooky music whenever you go near it, which is all the time if you put it in your basement.
50. Texture packs are cool, yeah, but posting one as your own that isn’t can get you in serious trouble.
51. Minecraft is in Beta. It isn’t perfect. Stop asking it to be.
52. There is no current minecraft game on any other system but PC, with PC meaning personal computer, or any computer in general, actually. Mojang only made it for PC, and anything else you find in that app store is an unlicensed fake.
53. Cave noises aren’t there to tell you about stuff. They’re there to freak you out.
54. Your save file ISN’T haunted. Please, don’t claim it is.
55. Chunk errors can happen after the world is generated. And they can happen right where your house used to be.
56. Using fire to clear forests isn’t a good plan.
57. Diamond pickaxes still take 15 seconds to mine obsidian. Be careful where you place it.
58. Sandstone is harder to mine then cobblestone.
59. Don’t post pure opinion about how building things legit is more impressive. It just won’t get you the support you want.
60. Notch doesn’t spend all day working on Minecraft. Give it time to become better.
61. Classic Mode is the free version, but doesn’t really encompass how minecraft works.
62. You can’t store things in your backpack’s crafting square anymore.
63. Fences can’t trap chickens, they can jump higher then it.
64. The game saves whenever the game is paused, which happens when it isn’t the selected window.
65. There used to be frog girls as monsters called Rana.
That’s 65. I hope you guys liked it. I personally hated typing it, it seemed much more fun about 50 tips ago. If I got anything wrong, tell me.
I hope this helps anyone who needs help.

Obsidian takes longer to mine then 15 seconds with a diamond pickaxe doesnt it?
Edit: Never mind, I was quite wrong. I guess I confused the time it takes to break it by hand with the time it takes to brake it with a diamond pickaxe

Nope. It's 8 by 8 and wait a moment I'm an idiot. I can't believe I've played for ages and never bothered to count correctly.

As you stated, most of those are pretty well-known facts, yet some of them are less known (the sandstone being stronger than cobble i didn't know). this was well typed out and organized, and a good read. A lot of useful info in here, so a for you. (theres a diamond in one of the books btw)

Also, the beard is extremely important, if it is wrong the universe could explode... Or implode... Some form of ploding would surely occur.
Lava in furnaces no longer eats your bucket, I've been using lava for quite some time now (mass smooth stone production) and it no longer takes the bucket.

Someone already pointed out that blocks have 16 pixels per side.
Also, I'm pretty sure you can put another block in front of a furnace. Just don't point the mouse at the furnace (point it on top of the block diagonal from the furnace, for example).
It's 16 x 16 per side which means there is 256 pixels per side.
I mistyped the first time. If it was unclear, I meant a side of a face of a block.

It really seems like 30 seconds, doesn't it?
So rewarding when you finally break through. And the lava sizzle of a new block being formed is soothing...

Only way to get THE wool. THE wool. As in, the wool OFF THE SHEEP. Not "Wool" in general.
