Love your build style, it's very neat on both the insides and outsides of buildings
What I love even more though is the fact that you've stuck with the same world for 7 YEARS, and to make it crazier it was all made in survival, that's just, I'm speechless.

How did you manage to update versions without ruining the world?
Also, what did you do about updates, i.e. the ender dragon, water temples, etc
For the enderdragon (Strongholds) and ocean monuments I'd have to travel quite far to new chunks, starting from my home z co-ordinate 528 - I've already travelled to 10 000+ in most directions, 20 000 in oe other direction, it's not impossible but it would be a challenge.
For the different versions, I'm very carefull with the back-ups I keep, however I still get some very funky chunk borders. I used to have one across the ocean from the back of the lighthouse, when there used to be a netherrack bridge going across there. I had to terraform it to make it look like the normal slope of land from the edge of an ocean. I can't do this all the time however. In more recent times, I now have one that's in a north-west direction from the lighthouse, then straight west forming a chunk alcove - which isn't very nice. Although it has a small flower forest on one part and is a lot nearer source for granite, andesite and diorite!
At the moment I am slightly worried about this next update given the ocean biomes being introduce. I don't think I'll have kelp or sea grass in the immmediate are, but I did see some cod in packs in the latest snapshot I'm playing with (Using a copy of the world). I'm hoping the new ocean biomes will intergrate or it'll be left blank & dull as oceans currently are, and not mess it up too much or I'll have to stay in 1.12..

I'm with you there. Especially considering the significant changes to world generation, I'll be damned if it corrupts everything that came before. In that case, newer would not always be better, I suppose, and 1.12 would have to be the end of the update chain for me. And I don't know about you, but I'm okay with that. I mean, I like the ocean stuff coming up, but there is already so much content in the game (especially as of 1.12) that I don't think I'll ever run out of ideas even just with what we've already got. New updates can be motivating, but they can never replace creativity. I'll take the latter over a corrupted world any day.

LP series? Not my style! Video series? Closer, but not quite. Survival journal, maybe? That's better. Now in Season 4 of the Legends of Quintropolis Journal (<< click to view)!! World download and more can be found there.

Hmm, I see, thanks.
I thought there were still only 3 strongholds in a world, but it was changed at 1.9 to 128 per world.
I'm thinking of making a world in alpha, and updating versions in a timeline similar to the real one.
I don't care for traveling a lot, if all of the things can actually generate.

Me too, I've got so many ugly chunk borders, a lot are a distance from my main home so at least I don't really see them that often; but still.

Good luck with that! Just be sure to open/play the game in every major release version along the journey!

1.12 The Last Version For This World?
So, it's been a couple of weeks and i've been dividing time between this world and the new snapshots using a COPY of the world for the latter.
So far it's been fine, however, in these last two snapshots - including the very latest one released; the world hasn't even showed up in the save file in-game now. Whilst custom worlds are temporarily out of these snapshots, this isn't a custom world - just an old world. Made in a time before pre-sets. This may be the very end version (1.12) for this world - and I'm fine with that. IF this remains I must admit I will be sad not to have the new stuff in this world - the update aquatic, turtles - and that geordeous swimming ability. Building wise I could miss out on certain blocks and new slabs/stairs as well which would be a pity.
Mount DOOOooom
In the mean time, I am at Mount DOOOooom as I said I would be, beginning the inside of the place. So much work has been done to the outside over the years, that it's time to fill those empty rooms. That being said I did start a couple of the bridge pillars at the back of DOOM - and by that I mean adding the mossy cobble I said I would a long time ago. I'm also trying to do something with them to give them a bit more depth. On my creative copy I came up with this design, but it's still not quite there yet..
They're very chunky and from certain angles parts still look like big blobs of cobble - I wish I had mossy cobble stairs.. As well as this exterior work I have also been doing a little more details to the front - mossy cobble, banners, fences and stairs to add a bit more detail.
It's something I will continue.
I have also brought this method into what was quite an empty bottom floor of the right-hand corner tower, as you approach the front. Adding stairs around the top of any pillars, some mossy cobble and some details around the tops of windows.
BEFORE:
I have plans for this tower however, with this empty room becoming a "War room" above it I think will be a general meeting room and an office on the next floor. Not sure about the top.
AFTER (So far):
A brand new world map for this side of the ocean is in progress, and I did have to move the spiral staircase to one side unlike all the other corner towers where it's centralized. Trying to maximze the room and space.
Lastly I also took out a nasty chunk wall to one side of the bridge out the back of DOOOooom. At first I started terraforming it, but because of the shape of the rest it (Furthest away from these following pics), I took out that whole chunk and ended up flattenned all of it.
Not sure what to do, if anything about the rest.
Oh and after weeding out in the nitwits at my village trading area, two mated and had a baby one. I planned to go back and kick him out when grown but when I did, there where four or 5 of them by then. #stillmightneedabiggerbase. Might have to make sure everywhere in the library is lit up enough and open that up for them as well as the art museum, as the breeding isn't stopping anytime soon!

Hey, I really like that bridge design! Did you know you can craft mossy cobblestone combining vines and cobblestone? As long as you play in a new enough version (1.8 and forward). Oh, but the stairs are not craftable from the blocks are they? (EDIT: Just verified that for myself) That makes Jungle Temple locations very important to note down! Great to know!
I downloaded the world (the previous update) some days ago and had lots of fun touring/playing in it. I wrote a journal with some screenshots for you to read if you like. It is quite long, so I split it into parts within spoilers.
I. The main area with detours
The contrast coming from my own only a few months old survival world to 7-year old gigantic one makes me feel quite frankly small and lost! Luckily there is the beautiful map included in the world download to provide me some directions.
I start by entering the closest building, admiring the awesome music/stereo setup (but stal, the meanest song of all is missing XD) and the art gallery (love those. Then I find myself taking a mine cart ride to see the view from Mount Doom and also stroll through the Church of the All-Seeing Eye.
I realize that there are creepers in the woods and set the game to peaceful for now, I don't want any of these creations nor myself to be blown up so early on in this exciting exploration. Slightly terrified I head back to the safety of the Main Home to look for any equipment to assist me on this journey, which I expect will be much deeper than a brief stroll in the park.
After a small ride on a donkey I find the potion lab. OMG the size, I feel like I am in the exposition center of some large city!! Some peeps like myself are in a 3 by 5 or so basement with a chest and a brewing stand to get their doses. I snag a bunch of regens, health, swiftness, water breathing and night vision bottles.
Then I rummage around the storage rooms, steal all the diamonds I can find, realize I can't enchant anything without any XP and settle for recycled mob armor:
Chainmail helmet and pants
Golden chestplate and boots
Feather falling IV and Depth Strider II on the latter is a perfect match for this exploratory session, who knows where I will fall over or into tonight.
I also grab 21 TNT and a flame bow if I find at some point that major havoc must be wrecked, plus a heavily damaged Power IV bow with Mending which I plan to repair up in my off-hand while fighting any mobs. For doing that, the legendary Wither Sword and another bow will do well!
Thus equipped I dare to increasing the difficulty up a notch to easy.
Other random items I pick up are an enchanted book with Frost Walker II (I can't say how much I want this one in my own survival world!!) , a stack of torches and snowballs, a fishing rod, a saddle, a stack of lumber and sandstone (I might kidnap a horse later and ride off to build a small hut where I can meditate on how little I have accomplished in Minecraft as of yet). I craft myself a crafting table and a diamond pick, axe and shovel.
Noting a book and quill in the chest marked by a pair of shears gives me an idea for my own world: Write down the brewing recipes! I tend to forget them since I use potions so rarely. And I actually like writing a lot, so perhaps I can find many more uses for this overlooked item.
While finding my way forward I enter the armory which circular layout and snowy ceiling I really dig!
I do a quick run down to the mines, slightly disappointed that there is no staircase and the tunnels are unlit, but I am not upset enough to make use of any TNT yet :XD:
Before heading out into the wilderness I realize I have no food (neither in real life). I find three apples, but it won't last long during a fight but it will do for the moment. There is rainy night outside, but the view of the lighthouse cheers me up.
II. Food break
The food situation is quickly remedied by the friendly grace of an automatic wheat farm complete with user manual (I would not know what to do had they not been there!) It is my first time using such a contraption and I end up having so much find I grow a whole stack of wheat and night turns into day. Maybe I will even build one myself in the future, even though it does not completely fit the theme of my own survival world, at least the current location.
I also go to fix my food at home. Just like in Minecraft, I am no stranger to pick up stuff that has been left behind and put it to good use. Here is the dinner I made, out of the leftovers from a nearby fruit and vegetable store (the stuff they can't sell because it doesn't look appealing (like fruits that have weird shapes, or a bit of mold on one side):
If you would like to see more of what I eat for inspiration and recipes, I have a food blog here, including a free e-book. Ok, enough of promotion (I just want people to be as healthy as I know they can, I see so many struggling with what to eat and being overweight or taking medication against stomach problems, something I happily overcame in the past, I was diagnosed with what was supposed to be a life-long disease with no cure). I also thought bringing in the green food synergized well with leangreen76's name! Back into Minecraft!!
III. I blow some stuff up =D
I realize I haven't done the main building justice and go back to see more. I stumble upon the kitchen after being mightily impressed with the dining room. I find all the meat I don't want to eat, and carrots.. But I will stay with the bread for now! I can't help but crack up when seeing the toilet and the paper dispenser. Imaginary poops, we have to take them! I love the look of the master bedroom!!
I also really like the painting replacements in the texture pack, you make me want to create a pack of my own! Ok, let's keep calm and play Minecraft.
I straddle a horse and shoot a spider. This place is not safe on hard mode! The beach is crowded with skeletons and reminds me of my days playing Path of Exile with a friend. I climb the light house to have time to heal and get some long range target practice. When the night is over I have experience up to level 20.
Trodding on, I am really happy to see a tower all the way from version alpha! Next to it is a mysterious staircase leading downwards. It must be explored! A nice room with a spider spawner, and a small cave system. I resist the urge to use TNT and head back to take the chance of exploring more of the builds around the main area, now that the day is on. Seeing the cow, chicken and sheep all trapped DOES make me use the TNT. Free them all! A minute later and they are all over the place!
IV. Finding peace
Now Mr Spankles and I decide it is best to go hide underground for a while. I am also out of arrows. Mr Spankles leads me to his old hangout. the stables, after a brief detour in a mine cart track tunnel. We take the time to catch our breath, eat some more fruits and veggies and take a look at the map. I want to progress a bit less chaotic from here, so I make a plan for a scenic route with areas left which I am really interested in:
The oriental garden
All the tree farms
The 6-year monument
The pool and tennis court
After that, I desire to go north to the Chunk-Wall Plaza and the Halfway House.
Climbing the hills to the jungle farm I enjoy the spectacular view as the sun sets!
I decided to use the texture pack I am used to for the screenshot, since I do not have the capacity to run shader's I think it looks better! And just in time, a super cozy tree house!! With a bed! And round windows. Total bliss! <3Even though it is a double bed, Mr Spangles does not seem to keen to come up the ladder. But I sleep the night away, and then find out I don't want to leave. Seems like I already found the place to sit and contemplate, on a corner posts on the veranda...
The main home looks really beautiful from here. Could I stay here forever?
V. Moving north
Eventually curiosity makes me move again, I have to see the monument, the pool and the tennis court close up. A mini zombie tries to push us down from the safe trek we scouted down the hill, but The Wither Sword is a one-hit wonder in a manner of speaking.
The monument is something to behold, all those versions passed without screwing up the world! I jump the 20-block trampoline twice before heading north in search for halfway house.
I mistake the station house for the real thing, once again not used to the scale of things. Speaking of scale. The chunk wall! The still exposed area to the east would be the perfect site for some pixel art!
Some more sheep has to be liberated on the way, but I ditch the TNT this time, it would cause more harm than good, since they are held tight just behind a wooden fence. The diamond axe does the trick.
Night falls, I am out of arrows and me and Spankles are taking a few hits. Luckily the mine cart tunnel is lit and provides a brief repose.
I head into the main hall of Halfway house and sip on a drink of that golden carrot juice. Suddenly I see everything so clearly! I have to relax, sit on an armchair next to the fireplace and read the intriguing history of this place. I take the advice in the book and head upstairs, roll out the bed and sleep out the night.
After an imaginary morning shower, I grab an oak boat and head out to see the surroundings. Nearby lies a frozen ocean bay. A small farm with carrots, wheat and melons are there, seemingly untended, spar by a clucking chicken. Next to it is a small plain sandy island. This is it! I have to not just make myself at home here, but make myself a small home.
VI. Settling in
I lay out a foundation of red sandstone walls, with wide windows for the scenic views.
I dig out sand to make a sandstone floor and while doing so discover that stone is just one layer below! Of course this an old biome generation next to a chunk border! Perfect, I grab some stone, make a furnace and start making charcoal, followed by glass.
A cobblestone chimney fits in well on the wall opposite the entrace, which I decide to have towards the farm and exposed cobblestone.
As I also place some torches on fence posts, feeling like a sort of Robinson Crusoe, I discover that there are potatoes in the farm too! Delight!
As I start on the roof i see that I don't have enough oak, but plenty of acacia, so I will use the oak more deccratively and as inner support.
I stow away all the treasures I carry which doesn't help while building.I realize I have 46 diamonds, but no iron!
I also want clay for flower pots, but this area doesn't seem to have any! At least some godly person has planted all sorts of beautiful trees around, so I am not afraid to run out of lumber.
I decorate the interior of the little cottage while jamming strad on a jukebox. Another sunset, now with music, potatoes cooking. Could life be better?
Not wanting to miss out on the night life, I skip going to bed and start digging, both the music and a staircase down. I immediately find a rich coal pocket which I empty, but what I am after is iron!
I get redstone and soon I am down to lava at height level 8. It seems that iron was harder to find in older updates!
I go for a little boat trip and find a large amount of clay. Now the pots are possible, plus any little brick decoration I would like to add.
I put some halfslabs in the ceiling to insulate around the chimney.
After some more digging in a curious cave I encountered while mining earlier I do finally strike four iron ore blocks!
One ingot goes into a piston, to use as a table. With the rest, a bucket is made, so I can place hidden water pockets and till fertile soil around the house! While doing that I am rudely reminded that I am playing on hard difficulty with a hissing sound behind me... Luckily, both the house and I seem blast resistant enough and there is only a small hole in the ground to fill in. With only four hearts left I decide it is best to go to sleep.
I want some warm carpets in the house, and for that I need shears, which means more iron. Another try down the mines, this time at height level 10 and mining away from the chunk the stair case is in. This proves successful. I return not only with iron, but also obsidian for an eventual crafting table and and gold too, while having some fun battles with creepers, skeletons and zombies.
I smelt the iron and place some green carpet. With a few more minor detailing I am satisfied with this both the building and this playthrough and would like to heartily thank leangreen76 for sharing this wonderful creation! I had a blast (or literally several) and I hope you had it too if you read this far!
Thank-you SO much for the feedback! Getting it from the download is not something I usually get and it's great to hear (And see it from another person's perspective!
Mr Spankles is my top horse, my main go to! Definetly the favorite. I couldn't even remember that there was a double bed in the tree house, I haven't been up there in so long! R.I.P. chickens! There's not so many of them these days (Apart from outside one part of MOunt DOOOooom - but that's another story..) as I was getting far to many eggs it became uncontrollable! That old Alpha tower nearly got demolished like it's first original one (Where the lighthouse is now) - but in the end I didn't have the heart to do it, despite coming up with a design I liked.

Haha, hopefully I will eventually get a download up so you can come rampage my world too. At the moment is a so small, I don't see it is really worth it! Sometime around the beginning of summer perhaps.. I am really looking forward to the ocean update, I have never built in the ocean. You have inspired me to think a little bigger, both in build size and terms of how long I could keep building on my world.
Local difficulty: 3.75 (Current location: Mount DOOOooom)
Current XP: 15
Drop The Dead Donkey | Meeting Rooms | Pesky Chunk Walls
Gather round. Bow your heads and have a moments silence as we say a little prayer, for Nardole the donkey is no more.
A bit of a bleak opening I know, but something bizzare happenned. I was on a short trip home, off-loading some chests from Mount DOOOooom and Nardole was tied up next to the outside of the bunny home. After off-loading, I went to get some melons from my farm and took the oppotunity to clear the chests again as it was building up in the collection chests. I may have to halt production soon as the amount of melon in the storage area of that farm is hitting maximum. It was a terrible stormy night, wind, rain and thunder. Anyway, there was a colossal bang, so I came out to investigate - but Nardole was gone. I logged out and logged in again but still no Nardole. I looked around still no sign.
No fence, no lead, no saddle - nothing. When I went back to the spot where he was tied - suddenly my inventory started filling up with the stacks of dirt he was carrying. I hadn't even seen them on the ground. Slowly I have come to the conclusion that indeed Nardole was struck by lightning. I have installed one of my "Gold plaques" (Sign on a gold block) along the front of the fountain - known known as the Nardy memorial fountain.
Returning to DOOOooom
I went without a donkey for a while but when I did grab another one from my beach-front stable, I built a little shed like place for the donkey at DOOOooom - in case of a storm. After a while I deemed his personality enough to find a name for said donkey.
Meanwhile on the building front, directly above the war room from last time's entry, I now have a small meeting room coming into shape in the floor above. Again in the front right corner tower as you approach DOOOooom.
The major thing I have been working on however was also a large project in progress. Since trhe days of Beta I've had this ugly chunk wall:
So the plan has been, (from the first pic) to level the mountain peak to DOOOooom ground level, and the long part that sticks out into the ocean will be terraformed to make it look like a more natural sloping land. It took a while to level the mountain, doing three blocks (High) at a time, right across the width of the mountain. The idea being to then hide the remaining flat wall with a wall with half-circular extrustions.
From the long, above shot, it's looking pretty basic right now but it's still an improvement on what was there. Obviously a lot more light when the sun rises without that big old half-mountain there.
Villager troubles
Having removed all the wooden dooors a good while ago, upon my last visit home I ended up putting them back. Including a clump in the middle like there used to be, all to try and stop them breeding now as it's getting ridiculous. Just one snag though. Before, without the doors; there was never danger of entity cramming as they have plenty of room to move around, including the art gallery next to the trading hall. I stood on a wood scafforld top observe them one night and with the doors there was heavy danger of cramming.Heavy danger of cramming around the doors.
So I guess I had to tear them all down again. Maybe i'll try just doors on the exits and none in the middle.. I also watched a video about a 1.12 spider farm to use that to make my old spider dungeon more efficient. Pretty standard design now, but - not just efficient in drops, but a great lace to get xp and level up!
The next download release is Easter. Suffice to say, I shall be spending the next week going round making sure I finish odd little jobs off, and preparing for release.

I feel sad to hear that you lost Nardole, I didn't know lightning strikes could take out named animals. I guess that makes a case for building some covered shelter to bring ones friends under while there is thunder.
The chair design in the meeting room is simple but elegant, worth remembering! And the room looks great too!
Terra-forming a chunk border like that is some serious work, I am impressed! It shows great promise. I think if you add different variations on each of the outcrops, it can become stunning! It inspires me to try my hand at landscape features myself, perhaps a small floating island.
I look forward to see the progress in the next release!

Thanks Avion, if I was able to update the world to the new aquatic updat I could use all spruce trapdoors or something, as it is I'll have to make do with this. I could do it with just the oak trapdoors but I'd never be happy with it.
Removing that ugly half-chunk mountain was the only option for me, it got me nostalgic though for how much it's changed over the years. So here's six pictures I compiled!:
After the initial build in Beta, the idea was to keep it to the shape of the mountain and turn it all to stone and cobble - even the mountain:
It ended up staying this way for a couple of years with no work done!
It became obvious how awkward inside - and cramped that would be and was abandoned for the first signs of change..
At first it was just widening the main central tower - but that didn't work it, it just looked.. fat. So I ended up taking the whole thing down for the first re-design and early perimite wall at very basic level, only a block width wide. It was also the decision to remove the entire mountain underneath the "Back building" resulting in what got nic-named the "Stem tower".
The main tower had the unique feature of spiral stairs around the outside, something I look back and regret as in hindsight it did look awful. Vines growing of buidings became more common place. The very flact back of the fort was always a problem as the perimeter walls grew and a chunk border was also made into a tower:
In this next one we start to get a sense or early familiarity, I started to widen the perimeter walls, add stumpy corner towers and the first ideas of redstone blocks as decoration came along, as well as a new front entrance via two gate houses:
Picture #5 getting very familiar with a redstone pattern in towers, early extra details including the start of the wooden balconies around the corner towers formerally nick-named the "Rocket towers" as that's what they looked like:
By the bottom you can see at one point I fudged up the front gate-houses and had to tear them down and rebuild.
Lastly, very much taking shape as it is today although only two front towers in progress here, and both the "Stem tower" and the main tower would both be demolished and re-built!

That is so cool seeing the progress of a mountain being slowly turned into a fortress over the ages. It looks as if the world has hundreds of years of history, like I can just image an army attacking it, destroying it, and then ages later another group seeing the perfect defensive area, and completely renovating it, at then the cycle repeating over a long period of time.
Also that's an amazing idea turning a chunk error into a build!

Thanks dude! Without these old pics I'd forget the original flat side of the mountain (not the recent one) existed before I built perimeter walls!
General info for everyone:
Yesterday I uploaded the next world D/L for released as promised and it is now live and available for anyone interested! As always be aware that it is a 1.35GB compressed file! See the first page of this thread, post #1 for the new link!

You know you've been playing for a long time when you remember when this thread was more new and the world being discussed then was already an aging two or so year old one. I remember because my case was similar (having a two year old world back then when the generator changed drastically every few years was a feat), only my updates to my world are just in screenshots and are nowhere near as consistent or frequent anymore. Nice to see other older worlds STILL going!

Thanks! You've got me all nostalgic now, I had to go and look at the original thread (In my signature) from 5 years ago!
Simpler times! Especially when I look at that outside corner by the kennel entrance, just a wrap around area for the stairs going down and window panes in the dirt and glass blocks for a bit of a sky-light. The old cobble fort walls - which remained for many years, the remains of the mountain around the pool which were big flat ugly walls until thjey were halved. Still experimenting with sand walls with lower log border trims and a spacious but very basic storage room! The beginning of the science lab V1, the dinning room decor V1, simpler library and rooms long lost. Not to mention the very visable landmark apartment block, original empty Half-way house and the first underwater tunnel before I had breathing and night vision potions!

For a while I thought nostalgia is bad and should be avoided, but I have changed my mind. Now I think it is a source of both happiness and inspiration.
It is also interesting to see how our values and standards change so much, even over short periods.
Thank you for the new Easter update, I feel excited about the idea of exploring your world again and finding out what has changed. This time i want to do it with the mindset of learning about larger structures. Always building small is my Achilles heel. Downloading right now!
Love your build style, it's very neat on both the insides and outsides of buildings
What I love even more though is the fact that you've stuck with the same world for 7 YEARS, and to make it crazier it was all made in survival, that's just, I'm speechless.
Beyond cool
Why thank-you both very much! Appreciate it!

Hey AvionPhoton!
Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed it!

PMC's Pumpkin Carving Solo Contest Entry
Thanks Avion, if I was able to update the world to the new aquatic updat I could use all spruce trapdoors or something, as it is I'll have to make do with this. I could do it with just the oak trapdoors but I'd never be happy with it.
Removing that ugly half-chunk mountain was the only option for me, it got me nostalgic though for how much it's changed over the years. So here's six pictures I compiled!:
Not quite a Thursday for a throw-back, but still!

So basically, I'm stupid.
