I applaud the ability to stick with your alpha world. I still have mine, and it was really tough to leave it, but after so many terrain generation changes and the biomes getting messed up (which made my weather and tree leaves mixed up) I just couldn't stand it any more.
Yeah, sometimes the chunk walls can get me down - they aren't pretty. I know what you mean with trees though, beyond the mountain with the maze on top there's still a load of Alpha trees left. Of which, contain elements of jungle leaves in them and drop birch and jungle saplings in the last couple of years due to the change.
I believe that the octagonal dock that you have built is more like a gazebo (Although a gazebo is more likely placed in a garden/ backyard). Just some info.
Gazebo! That's probably the description I was looking for! I have a... water gazebo, it's a thing..

Things haven't gone well with the start of the new entrance of Mount DOOOOooom, as you can guess by the first half of the title. When I arrived it was night time so i thought "Oh I'll go do some mining" as I needed diamonds to repair my tools anyway, Things went down hill from there.
I was on level 11, down a branch mine when I could hear noises around me; somewhere there was a cave nearby. I dug to the left and was shot to bits by a skeleton and mauled by a pack of zombies. Dying wasn't the problem, it was getting my stuff back. I ran all the way back but when I got up to the cave, just up from the shaft, a creeper and skeleton were surrounding my stuff. I didn't want the creeper to blow my stuff up so I led them back down the mineshaft but despite my tactical plan (The creeper was in front of the skeleton) the skeleton wasn't killing said creeper fast enough. After dying again, I ran back but all my stuff was gone, the two & half stacks of arrows I had collected of skeletons (At one point I used to have 8 stacks), all my diamond tools including two picks - one enchanted, Everything, gone.
The inside of the church and the near completion of it's roof were done recently and usually I do a back-up after each session; but I had not done one recently. I had to accept my losses, no roll-back. I was determined not to leave the cave until and mining until I had enough diamonds to replace my tools. It took a while, but my second shaft was more lucky diamond wise. Here's my inventory on going back, and where I had been digging coal near the cave of death. You can see what I found among the coal - pity I didn't have the tools to get it.
That gave me enough for a sword, just short of enough for a pick as well though, as I said it wasn't until shaft #2 that I found more.
I did start work however on the new entrance to Mount DOOOOooom, and I'm going to have to clear a lot of land in front to level it out. It looks really bare at the moment with no trees however.
In other news I also needed more stained clay (I'll get to why shortly), at first it was just clay and I got some of that, but even that is scarce these days. I didn't want to go as far as the mesa but as it had hardened clay I had no choice. so when I arrived I just decided to do a big mine and attack the mesa chunk wall and make it more natural, as ell as that it would also mean infinite amounts of various clay types as I sorted it out:
The reason I needed more was, I decided to randomly update the rear corridor to the back entrance of the mountain home - long overdue. It's been years as sand with long trim decoration (Page #1) and this was the very last area using sand as a decoration to go. Before that in Beta it was plain sandstone and cobble in Alpha. I've gone darker but at least it looks a lot more modern now and less out-dated.
Lastly, after many months of abandonment (See: page #3 in December), I finished off the bathroom after moving it from it's previous location (Now an access corridor) to where the old rear lounge was. To hide the redstone on top of the mountain there's a crappy basic shed covering the works.
To do all this I had to return to the nether and gather more quartz (Expensive walls) and glowstone, most of which are gone already. Now I just need to build my supply of arrows back up now I have diamond tools back. I'm also working my way up to level 30 xp to try and get looting III on said tools. I think currently I'm up to level 26 or something like that.

AWESOME JOB!
My new computer allows me to see things in a way i had never seen before!
one day, i'm gonna have a cool world!
the main thing that "destroy" worlds you don't use: mods
but mods worth it! at least for me lol
I haven't done much recently, all the things I have done however have been little small jobs that needed doing. One such job is removing the last of the Nether bridge, The walkways and stairs were left but now the whole things is gone at last! I also had a go at terraforming the half chunk wall it was connected to on the other side of the ocean, like I said.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
A mixture of shovel work and TNT, but mostly controlled TNT explosions.
I've also been getting rid of more default glass, mostly in the sky-lights of the dinning room; inside and outside. The bigger one this time however, is the observation deck with the rounded full window. (Made out of panes.)
I also got rid of the straight bank of stairs to the right of the bunny home exterior - that's been there for 4 years, and made them more natural and twisty. One thing I've grown to hate is just - steep, straight banks of stairs. I try to avoid them now if I can.
As seen behind the acacia tree and to the right:
After:
There's also an extra small set of stairs, behind and to the left of the well. Now the dock has moved it felt right to continue the path onto the beach.
I also retrieved the gold blocks from inside the church and put the cross back, not sure I like where it is now, but it would've been off-center on the roof where I wanted it. Speaking of the church I also removed the fencing around it now, and on the map - the roof shows as orange now (like default red sandstone) instead of the blue!:
In other news, I've just got a new set of zombie villager cures ready as all three died. I only nipped out to make a cup of tea as well. As mentioned before the're in an enclose area with lots of torches, so there's no way in for zombies and they shouldn't spawn, yet they died again. So far all I keep getting at night is regular zombies however.
I've also been keeping to level 30+ xp but still only get a level 1 enchant at best on my tools - even with more Lapis. Thirty levels and all I got was a lousy Unbreaking 1?! The enchantment table has lots of bookshelves around it was well. (As well as one underneath it instead of a plank). Maybe I need even more? I've been mass-farming my cows anyway as I want to get the bookshelves done in the library now. It was re-furbished ages ago and the bookcases are all that's left / holding it up.

To extend or NOT to Extend?, That is the question..
So for the last 5 days I have been busying myself with another big push - this time on the inside of the apartment block. When I originally made it in September 2011, the exterior walls were very plain - one level snow blocks, the next sand, snow, sand, repeat; and so on. It wasn't until summer 2013, I decided to give it an upgrade and in came the log trim, on the sides, window sills (Upside down stairs) and window shutters (Trapdoors). That wasn't the only change, until then I had a ladder to each floor with a water shoot to get down - all in one access point. Despite trying to build stair corridors as the building was - it took too much of the bathroom off making them even smaller. So I ended up putting an extension on the side for proper stairwell access, another great change like the look of the exterior. They also had new balconies facing the (Recently demolished) Nether bridge/ocean.
September 2011 - July 2013:
After:
Even since the beginning the inside of the apartments were very neglected. The kitchens were always done - the bathroom only a few. With the re-furb in 2013, I did start a plan to change the glass panes on the front back to glass blocks as inside I was starting to add a splash of colour to the insides when we later got stained hardened clay.
Standard 2011 - 2013 kitchen:
At first I was just going to get the colored walls done, but then I decided to do the kitchens and bathrooms as well, not doing one at a time but multiple bathrooms and multiple kitchens at the same time. The bathrooms can only hold: A toilet and a sink, however I found in a corner I could just about squeeze in a shower unit. (All would have to be constant running showers, now room for pistons/automatics due to their small size), whilst with the new kitchens - the logs and glass pane dividers have to go! I declared each new kitchen MUST have:
A sink
A fridge (Fake or dispenser version)
A cooker
These three are a must. Modern W.I.P:
After a good deal of time multi-tasking on multiple kitchens and multiple showers at the same time, another idea was stirring in my brain, about another possible extension. This time on the back. Yes the garden would only be a quarter size, but we're only talking an 8 block extension back - 9 including the outer walls. This would give much more room and extra space as the extension also is behind the stairwells, which means I could make the bathrooms extend that way.
Should I do this?, if so now would be a good time if I was to do it.
To help you decide, I went into my creative copy of the world and knocked up a few "artist's impressions", I.E. I did the extension on a couple of floors high up in mid air not the whole extension. This half and half picture shows how far back it is with the existing rooms as they are and how much space I'd have:
As you can see, the apartments would become much bigger keeping in mind the kitchen would be moved right back. There are two proposals however if I did.
Proposal #1: The kitchen would be moved right back with enough space for a kitchen diner, with the bathroom in line with said kitchen, with a new long shape to it. Sadly the beds would have to stay in the corner by the big bay front window.
Open-wall view:
Proposal #2: - Instead of moving the kitchen back, it stays were it does as does the old retaining wall for the bathroom, no kitchen diner, but, where you would go into the bathroom door as it currently is, would lead into a small square lobby with two doors to the extension! One for a new completely isolated bedroom (Where the kitchen would have moved back to), the other to the new elongated bathroom, which could have a full bathroom kit - toilet, sink, shower and a bath!
The initial apartment would be the same size roughly but with a new kitchen, only - the former bathroom door, as said would lead onto a small square lobby onto the extension.
Open-wall view:
*Keep in mind all of these are mock-ups, Kitchens, bathrooms and new living rooms would all have either new floors or carpet to add color.
So Should I do the extension?
If so, what proposal do you think would be best?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
Funny pic from creative copy, Creeper "On the john" being watched by an Enderman:
In my spare time I also tackling this near my home:
As it was:
First demolition using TNT:
Am now tackling to the left where I've marked off with cobble, with the holes in the wall near the bottom:

Post a pic of your enchanting table area. You can't have anything but air blocks between your table and the bookshelves. Even a torch or pressure plate on the floor will cause the book shelves to not be recognized by the table.
[edit] Nevermind, I found your pic on the initial post. Your issue is the carpet it looks like you have around the table. If you want that look I would recommend just replacing the flooring with red wool blocks

Of all the silly, stupid!.. Thanks! I'll try that! I just need to get up to that level again as I had a fall from a great height whilst doing some chunk removal.

This is very cool! I admire you being able to stick with a world for so long. I regret deleting my old worlds - It would be nice to revisit them and continue with the new updates.
Well, I've begun the extension, two votes for proposal #2 so far, but there's plenty of time to get your say on as I build the new part of the apartment block.

The Adventure Update Entry
Something a little different this time, I mentioned before I might go adventuring to freshen things up/give me a break, and that's exactly what I did before starting the apartment Extension II.
At first it started out as a small niggle, if you check this my map from February 15th - in the bottom hand right corner; you'll see a patch of water in what I refer to as a small "Sand pit". That patch of water bothered me, so I decided to take some sand to start filling it in.
Whilst on the surface of the sand pit however, I noticed a hole in the ground I hadn't noticed before, clearly some sand had sunk. When I traveled down into what was a hole into a cave I ended up finding another dungeon! (Just like the spider dungeon by watch-tower #2 that had apparently been there for years and I hadn't noticed until several months ago.) This one however was a Skeleton dungeon! Having lost my inventory due to death and then creepers blowing it up a while ago, I had lost my enchanted bow and couple of stacks of arrows. At one point I used to have 8 stacks of arrows collected of skeletons I fought.
By the time I found this dungeon however, my inventory was already near full and there wasn't much I could throw away that I didn't need. I had collected a lot of coal and Iron , some gold too. The first chest as you'll see wasn't very satisfactory with only a spare bucket but the second was a lot more useful with a couple of things I needed!
I already had a couple of saddles spare but it's never wise to pass up the opportunity when more appear. I left spare bones in one of the chest and then proceeded to grind for a while, not only to get my xp up and keep it up, but to get some of those arrows back. I am currently back up to 4 stacks on me now.
The second adventure I just went wondering off beyond the mountain adorned with the maze on top, and the hideous chunk border I'm working on removing a few valleys away. Each time I hit water I went in a different direction, the goal to either find new chunks or explore caves on land I had been to before, but gone down the caves. I found a huge cave that just run on and on of itself, filling my inventory with more Iron, coal and some gold. (Never did get that Lapis..) I had quite a few hairy moments I can tell you, being on both 1 heart at one point, and half-a heart another time, and I didn't want to loose all that xp.
I had traveled with my donkey - Flash, and both he and I came back with very full inventories. I think I only came home with a couple of diamonds, but the amount of coal and Iron was huge. Each furnace back home now has a stack of coal in it and I've about two rows of stacks in a double chest spare.
Enchantment news: I having got a looting sword yet but after altering my enchantment area (thanks for the help rodabon!) I now currently have on my sword: Sharpness III, Knockback II and fire aspect II. Current attack damage: +10.75. I feel a little OP
Small update this time, bigger one coming. So to end - did I ever mention I have a nice growing collection of bows I've accumulated from various skeletons?

Extension - DERP!
Work has been steady on the extension (Despite a break for the last few days from the world in general.) I think it's going to be proposal #2 for the extension,. I like the lobby and the idea of having a small separate room for the bedroom.
Whilst I was further up the top however, I heard a random explosion - a creeper explosion. As I was inside I was curious and a bit perplexed until I got to the very bottom floor. Currently in the bottom apartment I have a snow golem working for me giving me any extra snow blocks I need, I guess I didn't light it enough and a creeper spawned that the golem attacked. SO now I had a big hole in the side and no golem. I grow pumpkins however so the latter was not a problem.
More work over time:
Seamless extension:
Maps during the extension:
After completing the walls around the very top apartment, I re-structured the roof as you can tell by the maps and got that done quite quickly mostly using the previous source of spruce stairs with some additional (+ planks for finishing). Funny though, even though the trap door is shut to the roof it shows as a little white dot on the map!
This is where the post for today should have ended.
So I retrieved the save from back-up and went back to things after a break, and I've found one fatal floor in my plan!
When I did the test build on my creative copy I had a nice 7 block wide bathroom behind the stairways in the corridors, I don't know what I've done, but some how it's only 5 with a nook corner as you can see:
I don't know how I did it on my creative copy, but it hasn't transferred over to survival! I definitely extended the 9 blocks including the outer walls so I have gone far back enough... There is a solution however, They don't need massive bedrooms, and seeing as currently they're stuck in a corner in the living room by the bay window, anything will be an improvement. So, I have decided to simply swap the two rooms around. Behind the kitchen will now be the bathroom and the extension space behind the corridor stairwells will now be the bedroom.
Behind the kitchen I can still fit all the bathroom stuff in. (Corner hole in the floor for showers.)
Looks like I will have to keep the sheep in the back yard and the snow golem as I still need a lot more wool (For ceilings) and snow blocks respectively. Still will also need lots more sandstone too.
I also have an out break of chickens in the back yard they're everywhere!
I admit when I collect wool, I can't stop throwing the eggs at the chickens! I have a chicken epidemic. When it's all done they will all have to die however, at least this will be another way to get my arrows stacks back up to the original 8 stacks I used to have. (Collected of skeletons.)

it looks awesome!

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Excluding the "Old Nether" folder I keep in there (Old DIM & DIM-1 files) the folder size is 1.27GB.
Of all the silly, stupid!.. Thanks! I'll try that! I just need to get up to that level again as I had a fall from a great height whilst doing some chunk removal.

Want to read some awesome journals? Try this: Survival Journals/Worlds list
Thanks!
We'll see what others have to say but I personally do prefer #2. Simply as I like the idea of a separate room for a bedroom and the little lobby idea.

Well, I've begun the extension, two votes for proposal #2 so far, but there's plenty of time to get your say on as I build the new part of the apartment block.

The Adventure
UpdateEntrySomething a little different this time, I mentioned before I might go adventuring to freshen things up/give me a break, and that's exactly what I did before starting the apartment Extension II.
At first it started out as a small niggle, if you check this my map from February 15th - in the bottom hand right corner; you'll see a patch of water in what I refer to as a small "Sand pit". That patch of water bothered me, so I decided to take some sand to start filling it in.

XP update: currently 36.
