I must apologize for not updating the OP, as I've been a bit busy and this morning is going very slowly due to some work. As soon as I get a chance I'll update it with images.
Not OP, and a great idea. Some variety and customization with bows in the game would be a welcomed addition by me! Full Support. Not OP, and a great idea. Some variety and customization with bows in the game would be a welcomed addition by me! Full Support.
Updated the OP with Warriorcat15's banner, and I'm working on sprites to add as examples into the OP. Also working on a rewrite of the OP to make it look cleaner. There's a poll up, so tell me what you think about what enchantments should be allowed! Should the bow be able to be enchanted with Power V and Punch II? Or will that be a bit too overpowered?
EDIT: What do you guys think about SparkyWasabi's sprite? Should the string of the bow be dyed along with the shaft, or should only the shaft be dyed?
Just a quick update, the sprites for the bow are almost finished! I'll also be adding a few rewrites to some of the paragraphs soon along with an updated section featuring the effects of Punch II on the bow itself.
EDIT: Due to my wedding recently and studies things have been going slow, but rest assured I'm still checking the suggestion.
Quick update for all supporters/potential supporters! The sprites for the bow are being re-worked for the default resource pack. I'm starting work on an enchanted version of the sprite in .gif form to give you a general idea. I apologize for the huge delay, but things have come up in life and work is slow for the suggestion. As always, if you have any pointers or anything to add/discuss, please let me know!
What is the purpose of a stronger bow? The regular bow enchanted can already kill everything including other players.
To be quite honest the original idea for the suggestion was to allow the bow to be dye-able at first. The strongbow was added later into my thoughts and discussion with friends to give the suggestion a bit more kick. I can see where you're coming from, though. The main purpose is to give it a longer range, a different look and to give the player another option aside from the normal bow. Since we have an upgrade for sword-types, why not for the bow?
I thoroughly enjoy this idea, it'd be nice to see personalized bows along with a variety of ranged weapons (I know it's still a bow, but hey 2 bow types are better than one!).
This seems overpowered, useless, and completely unnecessary.
The regular bow is fine. It shoots far, can be enchanted to be deadly. The ONLY reason we would need a stronger/longer ranged bow is to snipe other players, which a) isn't what Minecraft is about and sorta overpowered. Not to mention will only be used to troll on servers.
Ranged weapons shouldn't have the range and power to instantly kill a mob that hasn't even noticed you. Either have the mob close enough to see you and instant-kill it, or have it far away and take several shots. Not both.
I conclude.
Cons:
- Only used in multiplayer
- Only used for sniping, which isn't useful
- Easy to craft for a huge upgrade
- Unnecessary
Pros:
- Greater variety and customization of ranged weapons
- Enables two different ranged weapons for two different purposes
Yea, support. And I think any bow enchantment should be available for it.
Tho binding bows in leather doesn't seem realistic to me... *googles* Yea I don't think so. Good this this is Minecraft.

Can't people use a fully upgraded normal bow to "troll"?
I'd use it in single player, that's all I play after all.
Sniping can be fun, and useful; don't see why it wouldn't be.
And the upgrade isn't that huge, though I think the full crafting grid w/ 8 leather should be used rather than 3.
Maybe part of the idea is to add more variety and fun to Minecraft, not necessity. I always welcome that. ^^
I sorta agree with you that you shouldn't be able to one-hit a mob that can't see you. As it's a more powerful bow, maybe it needs more powerful arrows? (increasing crafting costs)
Something like that, yes.

I'll just leave this here... (for those that want a simpler sig)
Hm... that's a tough one. I'd say it has my support, as draw speed is an important quality of bow combat.

Somehow, I ended up GM-ing this thing over at Bay12;

That's an idea, I can see crossbows becoming a thing if done right. Something like using iron to make the bolts or something like that.

That's just my 2 cents, tho.
