Not bad. Though It will be odd if you mine a Coal-Granite block just to get coal. Maybe you should make it so that the Metadata triggers code that gives you 2 items, so that when I mine a Granite-coal Meta-Data block, it will give me Granite and Coal as drops.
I really like this idea. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't read through this entire thread. I don't know if you said anything about this or not, but I feel like the ores should only be able to spawn in the different types of stone (regular stone, maybe gravel, andesite, etc.). To me, ores in dirt seems a bit strange.
To be honest when I first saw this I didn't much care for the idea. But after running the mechanics a few times it actually would make MC far more smooth looking. Granted that the MOST of what you see underground is straight up smooth stone, if they were to give the earth a few more colors something like this would be amazing.
It does look like it would look better, but I might get annoyed if I miss any ores to it. Even in your example, the first coal is way less visible. And not just because the stone sticks out on the second picture.

You both should read the thread more carefully. I said that only stone variants will spawn naturally. other combinations will be possible via command block or MCEdiit.

No, but it would take longer than usual.
How about ores found in different materials would require the tool that the original material requires? You'd need a shovel to get ores from dirt, gravel, etc, an axe if someone uses MCedit or something to have ores in wood, etc...

Also, I've flipped shovel textures for Tinker's Construct and ExtraTiC for a more realistic-looking animation, check here: http://www.minecraft...hovel-textures/
I really like this idea. But I would only support it if Ores wouldn't spawn in the nether unless they follow the concept as the Nether Ores mod where the pigmen would get upset and attack you if you mine the ores and, the ores would be a about as rare as gold.

This is a really good idea i will add it to the main post. Thank You.
A. The blocks would have a low spawn rate.
B. The ore colors matched the block in a way. This is so its unmistakeable for the block itself.
C. If not All blocks had a ore. Blocks like… Netherack, Leaves, dirt, wood, snow, and so on.
If people found a way to accomplish this, I would suggest a mod first, for testing purposes :Leaves::grass::log:
Ore generation would not be affected so ore rarity will be no different As for the blocks, most recent snapshots will increase performance by quite a bit, and forcing blocks to display more than one texture.. I do not think that it would be a problem.
I expected by the title that this would be an unbalanced suggestion which involved ores spawning everywhere. However, once I found out that they just combine with the other blocks, I realize that it isn't unbalanced at all, but how are you going to tell what ore it is? Also, there will probably be a lot of new blocks to rack up space in the block menu.

You can not grasp the power of my avatar changing attack!
Don't be afraid to report vague, wishlisty, or redundant (Maybe all three) suggestions. Leave a post saying what's wrong.
