The use of rubber has been around for about 4000 or so years - a whole lot longer than TNT and gunpowder.
Just because rubber trees didn't grow in Medieval Europe doesn't imply it wasn't in use elsewhere. The Mayans, for example, were throwing and knocking around rubber balls 4000 years before Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods came along.
If it were plastic I'd say "definitely doesn't belong in Minecraft" since drilling for oil and building a fractional distillation tower in MC would be completely stupid.
But hang a bucket under a tree, take the sap, heat it in a furnace? Definitely MC.

I'm not going by historical fact here. I'm going by vibe. Rubber is at home in something like tekkit, or a mod, but not vanilla minecraft.
and actually, rubber WAS in Europe, they traded with other countries with it, but, i guess your opinion is your opinion, but it doesn't make too much sensealso, just because there are witches and enchantments and stuff does NOT make it medieval, i don't know anout you but i see no kingdoms, plagues, peasents, knights, or damsels but ok...

Dragons.
The Undead.
Potions.
Enchantments.
Smithing.
Mining.
Ancient Technology.
Hunting.
Treasure Hunting.
Mapmaking and Exploration.
Villages.
Monasteries.
Building an Empire.
Rubber blocks.
Alright, class, which of these is not like the others?
the undead, not muc medeival there
building an empire non existent in minecraft most of the time unless on servers
dragons: ONE in the last level but not a main topic
ancient tech like what? you mean pistons? sorry no r3edstone in ancient times
The undead barely are mentioned in medieval texts
mining since when is that medieval?
monastaries: you mean generated structures like jungle temples? no i don't really think so...
smithing crafting, smelting, forging, whatever, been around since the beginning of time>>> smithing/smelting rubber, clay, and mud to build bricks, and rubber products
now lets have another look with logic and reason teacher... how ya like this class kids? CLASS DISMISSED YOU ALL FAILED YOUR TESTS lol sorry i don't mean to argue but whatever it's your opinion

It's neo-medieval fantasy. Like Lord of the Rings.

one of these things is not like the other! one of these things is not the same. =P
yea i agree rubber doesnt belong in vanilla or atleast something that should be added by itself. for example what would we do with rubber? hmm lets see a mallet, i dont see how that helps vanilla. rubber boots (tekkit style) sure why not but then again its tekkit. or maybe they would make you jump higher meh who knows. what about a rubber destructo ball of doom. you make a cannon and get a rubber block that actually bounces and if in a room can really do damage and just destroy everything in its path if not stopped. now that sounds cool lol. but then again cannons arent really in minecraft. it is possible to make one of course but there is no legit crafted cannon. a new weapon? the slingshot maybe.but as stated before this all sounds like mods rather than just adding a material into vanilla minecraft i dont see a real use for rubber.maybe bouncy pistons lol
Really? Weird. I use it all the time. Do you ever go on tnt-unlocked pvp/greifing/factions servers?
agreed i use tnt all the time. i have my server which is factions and griefing is ok. all of the kits you can get access to have 20 - 40 tnt in them lol.

I don't play online now - tried that when 1.2.x came out and didn't like it. Tried it a few more times since then and just didn't do much for me.
I do LAN parties with actual people that I know WRT Minecraft but all the years of playing stuff online (CS, UT, UT2004, and MC for about 6 months) I just got sick and tired of rules being made, rules being changed, lack of enforcement, etc. etc. etc. I'm more of a creative person than a destructive one so I'll have loads of fun blowing a map up in creative mode but I never use it in survival. Clans, factions, etc. don't do much for me.
If you are spending so much time on a server obviously something like the ability to use rubber could be disabled if there is worry about it being OP.
I think in terms of survival it would be sort of humorous and somewhat useful to have rubber - does it really alter game play any more than riding a waterfall up to the top of a ledge? That's where I see the most use - jumping up or landing a bit further without damage.

TNT doesn't make sense. Its function, however, is a necessity.
Aside from Mr. Green blowing up just how is TNT a necessity in the game? I can't think of a single time I have ever crafted it or used it in survival.
I usually just find myself making big TNT spheres in creative and setting them off, or, making cannons.
But in survival? Never used it once.
