The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
So... Today I've been noticing that not many minecrafters play with the brightness moody and i'm kinda getting sick of it! The reason why caves were scary when we we're noobs is because we didn't know about the brightness option, Therefor caves we're actually dark and scary! And I think it's nicer to play with moody brightness because it makes the game look more relaxing and the torches actually appear to be emitting orange fiery light on moody brightness! Please spread the word to the world and Mojang! They need to remove the brightness option A.S.A.P!
P.s if they do remove the brightness the brightness should be moody!
Moody... it's so seriously depressing... how do you like that? When I figured I could raise my brightness, I was pretty happy because I didn't have to play my favorite game in such a depressing atmosphere anymore.
Better to leave it as a choice; don't force people to have what they don't want to have. If someone wants moody, they should just put it on moody; no need to force others to do the same, solely on one person's whim.
Who cares how others play the game? You play the game the way you want, and other people will play their way.
Basically, this; there's a reason why you can adjust it, or anything else that you can in the game, or use mods while others don't, etc (if anything, I'd like to see even more options; like superflat-like settings for all world types).
Also, I have seen people claiming that they can see "perfectly fine" in caves without torches or nearby lava (example, post #16 in this thread; I also give an example of what I see later on) by turning the brightness up but to me it is nearly pitch black with full brightness on and I doubt my monitor can explain it (sure, it isn't PITCH black but almost completely useless to actually mine/navigate in and I already use torches by the thousand on bright). Of course, it does make it much easier to see outside at night which might be what they actually mean (but I specifically mentioned caves/mines).
Whilst I feel that Minecraft is a bit too bright at night overall, the Brightness option is a godsend when I need to turn my screen brightness down or when I'm playing in a small window. Removing it wouldn't serve any real purpose.
Now, on the other hand, italicized Comic Sans is fair game.
It's obvious that you did'nt buy the game in Alpha state. The brightness option was demanded and demanded and begged, for almost a year. The reason if that some peoples had a certain display on their screen that made the night pitch black outside caves. So inside cave it was totally impossible to play. Some peoples had to stop playing until the brightness option was added.
Eh, I like moody, but I also like full brightness too.
I don't think you should take away the slider because a lot of people (pretty much everyone I know who plays minecraft) keep it on maximum. Always. By taking it away you'd upset a lot of people. I might support this if it was like a switch between maximum brightness and moody, because I don't think (but I might be wrong) many people use in-between moody and bright.
Edit: Shouldn't this be in suggestions, and not discussion?
We should remove the option to put obnoxiously colored text in an OP.
What's a bigger concern is the use of the Comic Sans font. For people on iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc.) it renders as a nearly unreadable cursive font. I'm pretty sure the OP wanted his post tobe read by more people, not fewer, but using Comic Sans on this forum (or, probably, any other IPB forum) produces the exact opposite result. Between that and the fact that his thread title said "Must Read!" I did not start off with a good impression here.
So... Today I've been noticing that not many minecrafters play with the brightness moody and i'm kinda getting sick of it!
And this affects you how?
As someone upthread said, you play your game, let them play their game.
The reason why caves were scary when we we're noobs is because we didn't know about the brightness option, Therefore caves were actually dark and scary!
Except for one minor thing:
I'm not afraid of the dark.
It's not the fact that caves are dark that's scary; it's the fact that they can have creepers in them that will blow you up and then drop your stuff into the lava you didn't know was below the floor. Lighting settings don't change that. I started playing on the XBox version, which is much brighter than the default setting on the PC (at least for my TV and my PC), so I wasn't a newbie when I started playing the PC version. I was no more scared of caves in the PC version than I was on the XBox, though I was slightly more annoyed by them.
And I think it's nicer to play with moody brightness because it makes the game look more relaxing and the torches actually appear to be emitting orange fiery light on moody brightness!
So who, exactly, is stopping you from playing that way?
I didn't think so.
Please spread the word to the world and Mojang! They need to remove the brightness option A.S.A.P!
No they don't. They need to leave it exactly the way it is. That way, you can play the game the way you want, and other people can play the game the way they want, and everybody is happy.
The "take away the option for other people to play differently from me" is a special case of the "make Minecraft harder because it's too easy for me" concept that I addressed in one of my greatbiglonghuge posts here. As Vizzra said, who cares how other people play the game? Anyone who does needs to seriously re-think their priorities, because other people are never all going to play the way you think is "best" and stressing about whether or not they do will only make you unhappy.
I saw a quote in someone's sig (elsewhere) a while back that was, approximately, "Freedom is not about doing what you like; it's about whether other people can do what you don't like." That's applicable here.
So you want them to remove an option just so you can see players play the game you want them too? I'm sorry but that's the worse reasoning I've ever read in a suggestion.
Some players don't even play on moody or bright, I play in between. If you want to soil an option that can easin up Minecraft why don't we remove changing difficulties huh? After it all, it is "nooby to play" on brightness, so shouldn't it be nooby to play on peaceful?
Some of us don't even use full brightness to easy up the game. I use it to help me build during the night. I use it whenever i'm playing in a bright room where darkness in the game is impossible to see into.
Basically, you want moody to be forced upon players who enjoy brighter settings? I doubt that's going to happen. People play with brighter settings for a reason. While I personally don't use it in my vanilla experience, it's saved my life in the CTMs I play. Can't see in the dark cave, and I need to prevent death 'cause I'm carrying the wool? Tack up the brightness setting. Boom, I can move safely, or just see my path without using torches. I'll admit it's a bit off, but it keeps me alive without resorting to peaceful.
It CAN make the game easier, but only to an extent. It allows you to see better. That's it. It doesn't take the monsters away, it doesn't give you a diamond locating sonar, it just lets you see. For some people, it's very useful.
Even though I usually prefer moody, NO SUPPORT.
P.S, that comic sans your using? It isn't very attractive.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic
I do not like this idea. On the highest darkness setting, you can see in dark places, but not too well.
If I were in a cave at max brightness, I could show you the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the dirt and gravel (only on the resource pack I use, otherwise it doesn't contrast enough to the stone) veins, the spiders, and the long drops. I couldn't point out most ores, and would have a hard time seeing monsters. I like being able to see that much without lighting things up.
If you prefer moody brightness, then use moody brightness. Its that simple.
But don't force other people to use it.

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
I doubt my monitor can explain it (sure, it isn't PITCH black but almost completely useless to actually mine/navigate in and I already use torches by the thousand on bright).
I can explain it. There are 2 effects at work here.
1) Contrast ratio, this is the difference between the darkest dark and brightest bright. The higher the number, the more deep your dark and more vivid your bright, but also the more you can see differences within those bands. Things that are otherwise too dark to see on some monitors are clear and distinct on others. As an example, my TV has a really crappy contrast ratio, like 700:1, because of this, I can literally NOT see anything in moody and I have to turn it up to bright to get a clear picture.
2) Display life, the older the display (as measured by use and literal age), the more the components will wear, on a CRT: the phosphorous may begin failing; on an LCD the backlight may be dimming. With that said, repairing TVs is generally expensive to the point where it's easier just to buy a new one, not that I'd recommend it unless necessary because I don't have $350 laying around to simply blow on a tv every time it's convenient.
