In recent updates, Mojang has been adding a lot more storage blocks into Minecraft. At first it was just diamond, iron, and gold- now they've added coal, redstone, and emerald, topping off the mineral storage block spectrum. So the most logical next step is to add storage blocks for mob drops. Right?
Now, don't get me wrong by my usage of the term "Storage block"- every item added into Minecraft has to have some kind of purpose other than just storing your items more conveniently. Gold, diamond and emerald are used for decoration (Which is better than nothing, I guess...), iron for crafting golems and anvils, redstone for circuitry, and coal for incredibly compact smeltery fuel.
Gunpowder Blocks
There's been a fairly popular topic going in and out of the front page for the past month or so that I really support, and I think it's better to give credit where credit is due than try to rip him off, since I doubt I can think of a better idea myself. Basically, it's a gunpowder block that explodes near-instantly, but can only be triggered by other explosions, not redstone or flint & steel. It would be crafted in a 3x3, naturally, to offset the cost of not needing sand for TNT.
This block would also be crafted in a 3x3, especially since it's the item you're likely to have the most of (And is, currently, the most useless) out of all the mob drops. It would give a weak poison effect to any mob that stands on it (Which would heal undead, the more intended effect) and the player would also sink down 1/16th-1/8th of a block (The same as soulsand, but it wouldn't slow you down, that's a soulsand-only feature IMO), since a squishy pile of rotting flesh isn't likely to hold one's weight very well. :3
(Also, yes, I checked and there is a thread out there suggesting rotten flesh blocks. His ideas for it's implementation are however vastly different from my own, so I don't suppose there are any redundancy issues.)
Bone Block
The most natural implementation of a bone block I can think of would be as a decoration block, similar to sandstone but distinctive enough to warrant it's existence. It would be crafted in a 2x2, since it's a decoration block, after all. You don't see Mojang forcing people to make quartz blocks out of 9 quartz, do you? Anyways, it would have a "Default" texture which looks like a pile of jumbled bones, a "Smooth" texture (Crafting method arguable, I'd be for a 2x2 crafting of any bone blocks, similar to what is done with sandstone) which looks more smooth... I'm no texture artist, so I can't really show you what I mean. And there would also be a "Chiseled" variant, which would look like a catacomb wall, with skulls sitting on shelves of bone. Bone.
String Blocks
String blocks? It's called wool! Ha!
Ender Pearl
There would also be an ender pearl block. This would be a deep-blue stone-type block, with some cool particle effects, and maybe an animated texture. I'd rather not suggest anything too game-breaking for this block, but let's just say it's got a lot of potential. Maybe some kind of limited teleportation? Being able to link them somehow, and teleport back and forth ~400 blocks? It's certainly not the mainstay of my suggestion, just one of the many possibilities. It would also be possible for these to be used for beacon bases, as an ender pearl is a pearl, after all, and pearls are kind of like gems. And diamonds and emeralds can be used for beacons, so why not pearls?
Feather Blocks
Not a monster, sure... but it needs to go in the thread regardless. Since chickens are the only easily mass-farmable animal, they're the only ones that really need to be added. No sane person has a double-chest full of leather or ink sacs. Feather blocks would be affected by gravity similar in manner to sand and gravel, but would fall at a slower speed. You would sink down into them like with soul sand or the rotten flesh block, and they would also negate fall damage.
I might also add ideas for other mob drops, but I'd like to see how the topic fares as-is before I suggest being able to craft buckets of ghast tears and bundles of blaze rods.
Whether it's an honest incapacity or pure laziness at work, I'm a terrible artist and also not the best at portraying my ideas. So take what you get, and if you don't like it, help, don't complain! I know better than anyone I could use it. And also, thank you for reading all the way to the end! You must have a headache by now. :3

Gunpowder block would be too handy for griefers. Eneder blocks, please not tp without enderpearls. Rotten fleash block, need storage from my mob grinder. Feather block would be OP negating ALL fall damage, but you could half the fall damage. So 1342/2000 support. Do maths, it's good for youtr brain

For the gunpowder block, how so? It explodes immediately, so it can't be used as ammo for cannons. And it uses more gunpowder than regular TNT does and is harder to set off.
I can kind of understand about the ender block thing. It was just an idea I put out there, though I personally think it's a good one. It wouldn't be as good as enderpearls because it would be from a fixed position to another fixed position, and wouldn't have a use in PvP or glitching into bases, etc.
As for the feather block, there's this thing called water that does it already. This is just a solid-block alternative, that also responds to gravity.
Griefing is not a good enough reason to reject an idea. If it was, we wouldn't have things like TNT, flint and steel, lava, water, creepers, or multiplayer mode.

Still, but again, griefing is not only my main point. I forgot of the actual block. Why? And what would it add to Minecraft?
Actually, it would be your main point, since it was the only one you mentioned...
Why?
1. It would add a storage block for gunpowder, which is the overall purpose of this thread, along with the other mob drops.
2. It would presumably allow for more compact redstone contraptions involving explosions, since it is not set off by redstone like TNT is.
3. It provides for a renewable source of explosions other than overly complicated creeper-skeleton farms, making automatic tree farms practical, finally.
4. It would tile nicely with gravel, allowing it to be used in roads, pixel art, etc., as long as you don't mind the chance of your masterpiece being turned into a crater.
I really like the idea, especially the ender pearl block, maybe if you craft 8 of them with an Eye of Ender, or a Diamond/Diamond Block in the middle it makes a teleporter block that you can set to a frequency, and then set another to the same frequency to make a teleportation link? Under 400 blocks, like you said.

The whole point is being able to craft 4 or 9 items into a single storage block. Adding eyes of ender or diamond blocks would completely ruin that purpose. Though, if you like the idea I'm not stopping you from making your own thread about it.
I like the idea of storage blocks, but maybe not as this...
What do you think is wrong with it, if I may ask? It's not as if everything in the thread is etched in stone, if you have a suggestion, no matter how drastic, feel free to make it. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything.
I think they should have some/less/different uses. Here are my suggestions:
Rotten flesh block:
Get rid of the weakness and the undead healing effect.
Make it so that wild wolves get attracted to it and be able to 'smell' it from a good (20-block?) distance and start 'eating' it when at reach until it gets consumed.
Bone block:
Make it so that wild wolves get attracted to it but unlike the rotten flesh block, they can only detect it if 'seen', not 'smelled'.
For the smooth bone block, the wolf will chew it, but it cannot be destroyed. As for the default bone block, it will get consumed after some time after the wolves chew it completely.
String block:
Just so you know, wool =/= string block. If it was, it should be de-craftable back to string.
How about after laying it down, when it is seen by a spider, the spider will start to weave it and turn it into a cobweb block?
Feather block:
If ever it falls and lands on a player/mob, it will separate into feather items again along with feather particles.
You should be able to throw these at another player or a mob and once it hits something, it will go back into item forms + particles. (Minecraft pillow fights, anyone?)
As for the gunpowder block, I don't have anything against it. For the ender pearl block, I am unsure about it.
I think a better idea than storage blocks for monster drops would be separate items they're used for that quickly use up the items, or give a better and similar use.
Example: 8 gunpowder + 1 coal block in the center gives nitro powder, surrounded by 8 sand makes nitro tnt and blows up an area 8x8. Quickly use up sand, gunpowder and excess coal while still giving a great use. (bit incorrect in name, but oh well)
I'd like clay balls to be used in crafting recipes for pottery that can be fired in either a furnace or a kiln (made by 8 bricks + furnace in center). These pots, depending on size or type, could hold bonemeal, bones, flesh, jewels, etc.
It'd be even more awesome if these pots were to spawn in jungle/desert temples, and desert villages with loot inside, perhaps instead of the chests at the bottom.
I think I remember this suggestion from a while back.. Super bonemeal that can instantly grow anything/larger radius for grass. Egg, 2 bones, 1x rotten flesh/raw meat creates it (shapeless).
String.. what to do with string.. Well, using 8 string and a stick could make a spool of string, stackable up to 64. It'd lose durability in crafting if it were to be used in recipes for wool, etc. Same goes for laying down tripwire.
C'mon guys, be more creative with your 'storage ideas' for items that seem to serve no purpose.

Y'know, that's pretty much exactly what the guy in the other "Rotten Flesh Block" thread I mentioned suggested. I just don't like the idea. Wolves, eating storage blocks of rotten flesh? Or rotten flesh giving a poison effect to players and other mobs and healing undead? The latter seems more useful, and just as sensible.
Make it so that wild wolves get attracted to it but unlike the rotten flesh block, they can only detect it if 'seen', not 'smelled'.

The whole point of the bone block is to be a decoration block. I wouldn't mind giving it an extra ability- maybe wolves could be attracted to it. But I wouldn't be for it being able to be destroyed by any means.
Just so you know, wool =/= string block. If it was, it should be de-craftable back to string.
How about after laying it down, when it is seen by a spider, the spider will start to weave it and turn it into a cobweb block?
Hrm. I guess you're right in that regard. And it being able to just be crafted into string would make string too easily available, me thinks. Any ideas? This is the suggestion forum, after all.
If ever it falls and lands on a player/mob, it will separate into feather items again along with feather particles.
Sounds like it could work. Or if it falls onto a half-slab, or maybe if broken by hand. It could work like glowstone, where it's crafted with 4, but when broken drops 2-4 feathers.
You should be able to throw these at another player or a mob and once it hits something, it will go back into item forms + particles. (Minecraft pillow fights, anyone?)
Gah. No, just no.
As for the gunpowder block, I don't have anything against it. For the ender pearl block, I am unsure about it.
Great, the only thing you agree with completely is the only idea that isn't mine. And for the ender pearl block, my suggestion is more of a proof of concept that there's a lot of possibilities with it. If you have something better to suggest, I might edit the OP.
I think a better idea than storage blocks for monster drops would be separate items they're used for that quickly use up the items, or give a better and similar use.

Well, the whole purpose of the suggestion is to allow the creation of storage blocks for easy storage of certain mob drops. Though some of your ideas may be good, the main point is that they should be able to be "Uncrafted" back into their base item. The crafting table only has one output space, and when you start combining gunpowder and coal together and such it ruins this ability.
Good idea, but Minecraft has already gotten into the habit of adding storage blocks for materials. Unless they decide to scrap half of the solid blocks in the game and just let you put your diamonds, gold, wheat, melons, etc. in ceramic pots, I don't think so.
String.. what to do with string.. Well, using 8 string and a stick could make a spool of string, stackable up to 64. It'd lose durability in crafting if it were to be used in recipes for wool, etc. Same goes for laying down tripwire.
Now this idea I like! I might even add it to the OP. Though, there's a bit of a problem. Items with durability don't tend to stack very well. So if it loses durability in use and crafting, it wouldn't be able to stack anymore. And if you have a full stack in your hand and you use it, what happens? This might be a bit of hassle to code if they could just add an item that can uncraft wool.
C'mon guys, be more creative with your 'storage ideas' for items that seem to serve no purpose.
Hey! I didn't go around saying your ideas served no purpose. The rotten flesh block has a purpose for traps and mob systems- the bone block could be used for decoration, or maybe even be added to dungeons, or a new "Temple" in the new dark forest biome. Feather block? A solid-block alternative to water for preventing fall damage, and also possibly as an alternative for wool in the crafting of beds. The gunpowder block is another form of explosive that takes away the need for sad. I don't see how any of this is considered "Useless".

Rotten flesh block:
Just so you know, wool =/= string block. If it was, it should be de-craftable back to string.
Lowest terms below; For those who want to know but are too lazy to do the maths:
671/1000
Decimal form:
0.671
They all seem balanced in my eyes.
An alternate timeline emerges.
However, we must first start from the beginning...

What about the Hay Bale and the Coal Block? The Op is suggesting blocks very similar to them. And they do serve a purpose.
Thanks for the support guys!
