Now, this has always irritated me.
Let's assume our Minecraft worlds have a similar gravity to Earth's (even though a minecraft world is bigger than neptune)
Everything should fall at 9.8meters per second (9.8blocks per second, 9.8bps)
We have all these awkward fall times, like jumping off a hill, throwing a block off a hill, water falling, lava falling, minecarts/boats falling, sand/gravel/etc falling. Why is it like this?
All the items that actually fall all are either small or heavy enough to have no air resistance, so why different fall times? This doesn't include arrows, im saying things without support to go faster should fall at the same speed.
Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
If realistic gravity were to be incorporated into minecraft, because the minecraft world is paper thin compared to vastly wide it is, the world would pinch together at the center, causing the farlands to thin out and break apart, only to be pulled towards the newly formed ball that once was a sheet of stone laced with dust.
I'm all for realistic aspects in minecraft, but not flat out scientifically accurate principles.
I don't see the current fall speed as a problem at all, and I'm confused as hell to why that would irritate you... What would be the true gain in implementing this other than to say "Hey, this falling speed is realistic!"

Also Minecraft is non logical games(80%of it not logic..not 100%)ant that what make Minecraft Unique and Fun.
Like mentioned above, they accelerate at 9.8 m/s2 and they don't fall at a constant rate. (an object tht has been falling 10 seconds moves at 98 m/s) If all objects fell at ~10 blocks per second, that would be DREADFULLY slow. It's good how it is.

The issue is that for fall speed to be realistic, it would have to have acceleration. At the END of the first second, you fall at 9.8 meters per second, at the END of the second, you are falling at 19.6, etc. However, you are using a calculus equation to track actual falling speed for each object falling. This is probably still trivial for a given object, but how many falling objects will you have?
Is it worth having your computer doing a bunch of real-time calculations to support this?

the acceleration equation is linear. you only need calculus to derive it, which has been done many many times.
that being said, i dont think this is a good suggestion. its a game made of blocks, it doesnt need that much realism.
