I was playing around in my single-player world today and I encountered a village. I looked at some of their offers, and then took the materials from the blacksmith's house. Night came soon, and pretty much all the villagers died from two creepers blowing up houses and zombies breaking down the doors. I headed back to my house and then after night ended I returned. The village just looked completely destroyed and deserted, and it actually seemed like a pretty cool idea for things like these to be encountered regularly.
To make these abandoned villages wouldn't be too hard. The chance of finding one, in relation to regular villages, would be around 5-15%. I think there should be three types, creeper, zombie and mixed. The chances of what type of abandoned village it would be, if you found one, would be 40% creeper, 40% zombie, and 20% mixed. In the creeper one, creepers blew up parts of their houses and killed everyone, so there is nobody left in the village. For zombies, there would be no doors, as they had all been broken, and have an amount of zombie villagers equal to how many regular villagers would have been there, and then have a few normal zombies (the ones who caused the outbreak). In the mixed one, there are still the creeper holes in the houses, but that didn't kill the villagers, the zombies did, and as a result, there is still damage to the houses, but the zombie villagers and other zombies are still there. If there was a blacksmith with a chest, it would be empty, as the villagers had used all the materials fending for themselves before they died. In addition to the villages, in a range of 50-100 blocks away, there is a 20% chance of finding a "refugee house." One or two villagers were able to escape the village before it completely fell, and made a basic house away from the village. They are basic 5x5x3 square dirt huts with a wooden door, and a few torches. Inside you will find 1-2 villagers, and a crafting table and chest. The chest can contain wooden and stone tools, but they will all already be at least partially damaged, akin to that of a skeleton's dropped bow. The chances of each item spawning are as follows: Wooden Pickaxe- 100%, Wooden Sword- 80%, Wooden Shovel- 20%, Wooden Axe-5%, Wooden Hoe- 10% Stone Pickaxe- 40%, Stone Sword- 30%, Stone Shovel- 7.5%, Stone Axe-2.5%, Stone Hoe, 5%. As you can see, stone tools are significantly less common than wooden tools, and they are all already damaged, so there is no chance of it being OP.
So what do you think? I believe this would make villages much more interesting, and present a unique challenge in some cases.

These are some examples of what these villages would look like.

Thank you. And, actually, yeah, a mix would be pretty cool to just make the town completely destroyed. Maybe a ratio of 40% zombie, 40% creeper, and 20% mix would be good? EDIT: Just edited original post to include change. Thank you again for the suggestion.

Yeah that sounds great. it would be toooosssppoookkyy xD
It does seem like a cool idea. Inside one of the deserted broken houses should be a skeleton or zombie spawner. Then that would be super cool. 100% Support

Thank you for the support. I don't really think spawners fit into the theme of an abandoned village, though, as it's supposed to feel more empty and abandoned, and all the former villagers will be accounted for as villager zombies (in the zombie village). But again, thank you.

It is your suggestion, not mine, and I don't mind. I still 100% support
Well, I think in terms of programming it into the game, they should spawn all the zombie villagers when the player is a certain distance away from the village (probably whatever the maximum distance is that mobs can spawn away from you). Then, maybe they could have a certain type of special AI or something that tells them to only come out at night, unless they see the player come close enough. It would pretty much be the opposite of a regular villager, come outside during the night, stay inside during the day. Also, if they were to implement some kind of special AI, they would probably have to make it so that there's a maximum distance they can wander from the village, unless they see the player and are going after them.
Ehh i don't think it is useful, i think normal villagers are enough. half support.
In my opinion, villages aren't very interesting at the moment, and this would be a very good way of making them more fun, as it would make it feel like the village was actually there before you stumbled across it. Also, for a generated structure, I think that it is just too easy. You can just come in, take all their bookshelves, wheat, iron, whatever you need, and leave. With this, there would be some variety, and in the case of the zombie or mixed village, there would be at least somewhat of a challenge.
By the various versions, do you mean the game would simulate creeper explosions during generation? I don't see why you need different versions and not your "mixed" one with holes and missing doors.

Thank you for the support! And for the versions, yes for the creeper one, it would be a simulation of a creeper explosion. The reason I wanted to make it different versions was to add a little variety and have different villages that ended in different ways, and creepers seemed like the only mob besides zombies that could kill them off, as no other hostile mob would be able to get to them. Maybe it would be a better idea to only have the types of zombie and zombie/creeper, though, as creepers aren't exactly hostile toward villagers.
