Would be cool, spiders barely do anything and this would make them more interesting. It would be cool if different nests fight over territory and spiders lay eggs which later hatch. Support!
I like this idea a lot. I'd love it to be implemented, especially with 1.7 appearing to add new biomes. Especially the carrying items to their nests idea, and the retreating to them at sunrise.
A boss spider named Aaragog. Nah, just kiddin. Maybe they can spawn like thrice a map and do 7 damage with 25 health? Twice the size of a normal spider with green moss/leaves on it.

I think that it would be cool if they were more like the mirkwood spiders and the one in limbo. There should be one big spider that has the power to immobilize the player and spin them into a cocoon. I also think that the nest should have spider eggs inside that the player can steal and raise their own spider! A new spider type would be cool too such as the camel spider that lives in the desert. I dont think that there should be any mob spawners inside. The spiders should come to the nest when there is at least 10 webs and not comeback when there is less than 5. It would be a cool mod to have.
The loot shouldn't be loose otherwise it will despawn within 5 minutes of the chunk being loaded.. I think there should be egg sacs that have the loot in it (with GUI system)

This question has been asked enough so I will add it to the OP. this basically is like the crystal chests from the iron chest mod.http://technicpack.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_Chest (I am aware these create lag but a single item will do as much lag as throwing an item on the floor.) that way they do not respawn and the loot is visible inside the webs.
I agree with this, as it would make survival more fun to play, with unexpected bosses in the side of caves, all kinds of stuff =D And plus you could lock your friend in a spider hole while their AFK XD

the only problem is to create the AI for the spiders, and to make sure those "caves" wont appear in places which dont make sence.
Then they may as well work on making caves not go through strongholds as well.

loot that i would want:
1. spider eye
2. fermented spider eye
3. string
4. any type of shrooms
