What do you think of Majang selling capes? I know most of everyone has always wanted a cape.
What if Mojang were to sell them? For say, $0.50USD?
Would you want one? Would you buy one?
Would you want them to be giftable? Like gifting a Minecraft Account Code.

The capes could be bound to the users account and be changeable at will, like changing a skin except you would have a library of capes you purchased from Mojang.

I know this heads towards micro-transactions and no one would ever want that for Minecraft but I'm not saying adding hats, glasses, new colorful swords. Just capes.

Sounds like more of a topic for the suggestions forum to me, but they wouldn't want it either since capes are constantly over-suggested and have been discussed a thousand times already.

Capes are special, you get one for attending a Minecon, you don't buy one for a measly 50 cents. The processing company that handles Mojang's online transactions would probably charge them that much per transaction just to clear them through the bank.

Credit card companies charge merchants fees based on the average charge amount, the smaller your average charge is the higher a percentage you pay them. This would lower Mojang's average charge into the gutter and they would then have to pay more on every transaction, including when people bought the game from them.

I hope to God that Mojang gives away hats or something this year instead of capes, at least then we will have something new to read. Sure, instead of a thousand threads about capes there will be a thousand threads about hats, but at least it will be something new.

No. They are meant to be special. If you want a cape, do something special. Go to Minecon or donate to optifine or something.

It's a nice idea, but still rarity is still needed I mean when you see someone wearing "REAL" Mojang cape and everyone's taking pictures of him/her. it's better to use origal than buy-able cape, because hackers and pirates may hack or steal it.

I support. Sure, we have customizable skins, but you can only get so far with them. As far as price, i'm sure 99% of people would be happy with 50 cents, but as ausador said, Mojang would lose out a fair bit. Personally, I'd be happy with $5 max.

Selling Capes for 0.50$ would result in Mojang loosing money.

Thanks everybody for replying, I've read a lot on capes before but the posts are always really bad and have the dumbest ideas, I was going for more of realistic. When I came up with the $0.50USD I was thinking more towards ppl buying tons of these over the long term thinking Mojang would make more money not losing it. Guess I was wrong on that count.

I don't have the xbox version but I am always hearing about the skin packs which is kinda what gave me the idea, skin packs would never work for pc because people would certainly just copy the skins and give them out but something like a cape if not uploadable would allow Mojang to keep control of it.

I don't think capes would exactly lose there specialness if Mojang only released certain ones once and for certain events or holidays.
Also saying you had the official Mojang cape from MineCon would still bring on epicness.

After reading most of the other cape idea suggestions I had felt the deep need to see a question that had some forethought put into it and I believe I did that here and was given my answer, NO, the majority of people believe this is a bad idea.

No it does not because I did not buy a baseball card pack of Honus Wagner Cards, I got the normal average pack of cards with nothing special inside. I now own a very average unimportant set of cards, it does add to what I have but it does not make me different than the other thousands that bought the pack and got nearly the exact same cards.

I think that capes should be sold for something more profitable, so mojang would buy on to the idea. I would say maybe 5 US dollars would be reasonable. In the shop, Mojang could personally design capes to sell, but they could also sell a designable cape, in which you would get to make your own cape. different styles of capes would be cool too, like tattered cape and other stuff like that. About getting capes as a reward, perhaps something like getting all the achievments in minecraft and you would get a cape. there could be an option in the menu that would allow you to switch between capes that you bought or achieved.

I think that if you come up with an inspiring idea, mojang could award capes. The guy who came up with the idea for pig men got a free porkchop cape temporarily.

Optifine sells capes for $10. Everyone that uses Optifine can see your cape (hundreds of thousands of people at minimum).

No. Capes are supposed to be special, and when you take that away, it's gone. Minecon attracted lots of people, and they got capes. Do you think they still would feel special if everyone else got to wear capes? Its simply unfair. They had to pay for the Minecon tickets, believing they would be the only ones with capes. It should stay that way.

but the porkchop cape was returned to mojang, because other user was asking Notch to have their own capes

Good idea, though they should be free, and uploading Mojang or Minecon capes would not be allowed.

I wouldn't say everyone wants a cape. I don't care at all about having one.

I think people should buy the capes for $5 US dollars but the minecon and mojang cape won't be available for them and they can only have 1 so they better choose wisely.

I think It should be Given to you If you buy lets say 5 of their Merch BUT... it would have to be at the same time like a Bundle you buy 5 for a Donor CAPE that Had A big D at the back of it

That price seems a bit cheap. Prehaps $5? idk.
