no, they scout the area, if they see a structure, but no one is there, they sorta linger for a while, with no monsters present on the nights of its appearence, the player's bound to get curious, so he wanders out, and the stalker sees them, and chooses them, welcome to hell. you may catch glimpses of it from time to time, and when it attacks, it K.O.'s you, IT DOES NOT kill you, when you wake up in early dawn or morning, you see it plundering your base to smithereens, some loot might have been taken, some chests or other utilities destroyed, then it sees you have come too and runs off, never fear however, the taken loot can be found in the Stalker cave in the dark crystal section
So in a nutshell,
WARNING! SIDE EFFECTS OF THE STALKER MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: LOST POSSESIONS, LOST HOUSE, LOST CRAFTING BOARD AND/OR FURNACE, LOST LUNGS, LOST SPINE, TESTICLES SHUVED UP YOUR NOSE, BEGGING FOR MERCEY, JUMPING AT SHADOWS, BARICADING YOURSELF IN THE CLOSET, UNAWARE OF PEDOBEAR RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, EATING YOUR OWN FECES, UNCONTROLLABLE VOMMITING OF LAZ0RZ AND THREATENING TO SUE NOTCH
I wouldn't mind the hit and run style enemy part of the idea though. Perhaps it would only attack if you're not facing it, and run away to hide after hitting you once, or if you turn around to face it. Like the Boo from Mario. Would be pretty cool to mind your own business, get smacked, turn around to see barely see something disappear around the corner. Would you go after it and try to hunt it down to be left in peace, possibly into an ambush, or would you shoulder on with what you were doing, constantly looking over your shoulder?
No. Just no. Not only do I not want this, it just wouldn't work for reasons that should be to obvious for me to have too explain. It does give me some ideas...
How about monkeys that randomly rob you (as in your current inventory, not treasure chests) of an item, and try to run off with it. Lacks motive alot, but i'll stop thinking about ti to much so I don't ruin my own dream.
listen buddy, Notch said he wanted a goal, do you want minecraft to be boring forever? do u want it to end up like Spyro, or the virtual boy? thrown in the trash because people lost intrest? if that happens, then i will personnally ensure that YOU are labbeled responsible.
if that happens, then i will personnally ensure that YOU are labbeled responsible.
lolwut
In any case, even if notch wanted to implement it, it would be impossible to code it to work anything like that. They'd end up getting stuck in dead ends, falling in pits and getting stuck, etc,etc
the coding is nearly impossible if it cld work itd make mc epic if not minecraft is on its way down a deep hole stalkers would make so much difference in mc id pay 10 times to have stalkers other wise theres a hole and minecraft is a step away
its supposed to linger near you, then retreat to its cave once you leave your base, then the next night it continues to hunt you, and since there are no monsters out when the stalker is out, the player gets curious and wlks out, the Stalker does the rest

I'm pretty sure you can only really have monsters like that in games with set maps.
If it was in minecraft, it would probably get stuck the first time it came across a wall or ledge.
listen buddy... ...i will personnally ensure that YOU are labbeled responsible.
You mad? XD
Edit: I suppose I should write something constructive here.
Umm...
Your character does certainly bring a new element to gameplay that has not been mentioned before. I am sure that all of this negative feedback pulls a couple string, but I hope this does not keep you from sharing your ideas. While I am not crazy about your mod, it was quite pleasing to the imagination, and it did make me think of other possibilities.
I really don't see why a base-destroying monster would add to the feeling of having a goal in minecraft. a stalking enemy would be cool, as stated, but having it destroy bases would, for me, make anything other than defensive building seem useless. no point making pretty castles and towers if it is likely to eventually be destroyed. You seem quite attached to your idea... but try to see the other points of view too.
i just believe that the creation of the stalker will spice up the gameplay you know, add some variety, it stalks you, it hurts you, possibly robs you, but if you read what i put earlier, you would see that the Stalker DOES provide a goal, there is a chamber in a network of caves somewhere on the map that has a huge dark crystal (use for obsidian?) where the stalkers live during the day, if you and your posse can find said cave, you can not only stop the Stalkers (by destroying the crystal) but you can take you belongings back, and the same ammount of materials you base was made out of, so you can rebuild it no problem. see what im saying? why are you guys so opposed to this? its the best frikin idea ever, like killafish said, eventually minecraft WILL get boring, its inevitable, it happens to everything, the Stalker will boost minecrafts lifetime.
Besides, if it doesent make it into indev/infdev, (which at this point is unlikely, thanks to all YOU) it still has a shining hope of making it into zombie seige as a special zombie, or dungeons and levers as Notch said he was gonna add more enemies to that.
well, maybe not as diverse and complex as i thought, but it could still make it in as a cameo monster or something in zombie seige or dungeons and levers, it could be a mutant or maybe an overpowered zombie :tongue.gif:
Look up 'dancing pig' on youtube.
Its from an old, terrifying movie.
Goddamn it, I've seen your avatar for the last 4 hours continously and the longer I see it the creepier it gets.
I am NOT going to sleep tonight.
It reminds me of a creepy foreign horror film that was ridicously scary considering how actualy bland it was. It had small 'interchanging' parts for scenes which where parts of a dead pigs head dancing around in stop motion, things like tongues and eyes. The tongue thing your avatar does gives me an 'anti' nostalgia attack.
(who knew I could write a paragraph explanation on how your avatar effects my psych)
I like the idea of a stalking mob, but have you noticed the pattern all mobs share? They won't attack you if you're too far away because of their programming. It would be a lot harder to program a mob that can think for itelf with strategic movements (Instead of just chasing when you get too close), as well as knowing whenever you're looking directly at it...

just seems like a ***** mob..unfair..and, well..a ***** :biggrin.gif:
LOL U KNOW WHAT WOULD BE COOL?
A ****ING SAND WORM
(yes i know, theres a thread about it - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11631
