What I mean is, minecraft isn't a combat simulator.
Minecraft is a sandbox game. Just because you play creative doesn't mean that everyone else has to immediately conform to your playstyle. If they want to adventure and have epic battles with monsters and other players that ISN'T clickspamming, then why shouldn't they be able to?
Because it is too complex for minecraft. It would be almost impossible to make. And, allot of people like spam clicking. So you are taking away my spam click by doing this.
Impossible to make? You're just throwing out blatant excuses now. Do know how to code Java? Do you understand the fundimentals of Minecraft's code? Most likely not. You probably like spam clicking because you win often because you have a fast computer and internet. People with laggy laptops and shoddy wireless cards are at a major disadvantage here, and a slightly slower combat system would give them a fighting chance. Give me ONE logical reason why spamclicking is better than OP's suggestion, besides "you like it".
And moving the mouse to control the sword, and getting the clashes right, i don't see how it could work.
That part I did think of a POSSIBLE solution of. Maybe a shield item that could be crafted, with limited durability, and combined with a sword (You coule probably de-combine them later, to enchant them seperately), or somehow to use a shield, that when you block while using it, if it takes a hit, it blocks from any direction and looses some durability, and it could also block arrows. Sword and Shield would do less damage, as you would be wielding a sword one-handed instead of two-handed.
And Warband is even better. ...Is he playing Warband? Anyway, the system DOES work, although directional blocks is a tad hard for newbies, but that's what shields are for.

Obviously it's the original. You can tell because of the horrible graphics. I think that the difficult blocking system is a good thing, since minecraft isn't supposed to cradle and protect the player.

Warband graphics are a bit better... But still bad. Anyway, a difficult blocking system is hard to get into though... Shields balanced that out with Mount and Blade, plus that would give us a way to block arrows. Anyway, I do think that might not be the best example footage of blocks and hits. Probably would be better to show one of those epic 2h vrs. 2h duels I sometimes see in multiplayer, tons of hits but only one out of 20 actually isn't blocked.

I looked for something like that, but sadly couldn't find any videos of it.

Oh well. I see those all time time in the servers for a mod for it, cRPG. Back on topic, I think we should discuss Knockback with this now. I don't think being pushed back by direction slashes is... well.... believeable. Looks just... weird, you know? Maybe we could have knockback stagger you back a bit, where you can still block, but not attack for a few seconds, and you're pushed back a little bit.

IMO it should only disable you for a fraction of a second.
How about slashing, stabbing and backstabbing? Nice idea though. Bows should also be improved.
Slashing is the original suggestion.
We're working on stabbing.
Backstabbing...I dunno, that seems to go into grapple territory, and I'd rather not stray there.
As for bows...you have any ideas, might want to post as a new thread. This is about swordplay, gents, ranged combat can be dealt with separately.
NOTE: For those not of Mount and Blade, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword uses a similar system(though the wiimote was practically MADE for it, and vica versa.)
Wouldn't this mean the best way to fight is just wildly swing your mouse around? I don't think you could block fast enough. Maybe while swinging your turning movements are slower?

Here is my signature. If you like it, I am amazed.

Did you watch the video on the previous page? It shows the combat system used in M&B, which I think should be the direction to go in.

I assume it would have a speed limit, it would take a tad bit of time to actually swing the blade.

It's not my thread, and I'm criticizing you, not being rude. Take a look at that video to see how the clashes work.

Why don't you want combat to be more than click-spamming?
Could you explain what's confusing you?
Maybe, I meant that you'd be able to block but not attack, really maybe it could cap at 2 seconds, for max level knockback enchant?

I've played M&B, so I know how that works. But the way it was expressed in the OP doesn't seem to be the same as mount and blade.
