I was watching a modded playthrough that used a Boomerang to grab items, then I thought of how much easier it would be to just use a Fishing Pole. (If they sneaked this in at some point please tell me.)

If regular is Vanilla then what flavor is your Minecraft?
Makes sense. But it's be VERY tricky to get the items.
True, but that could also be a good reason for some serious mini-games. Also remember that the pole only uses durability when it actually hits something it can snag and is pulled back, so you can always try again.

Yeah, makes sense.
But doesn't it reduces durability if you use the fishing pole against a solid block and pull the hook back without snagging the block?
Actually, it uses double durability if you click the right mouse button again. If you switch to a different tool without pulling it back, then the rod takes no durability. Unless something has changed since 1.4.7.
What if you were in a server, and just caught a diamond by accident.
These diamonds, iron, gold and emeralds should not be handed that easily.
Half support.

I don't mean that you'd just get random stuff from fishing. I mean if an item is dropped in its dropped entity form and you can hit you you can reel it in. Example: You just kill an Enderman while standing on a pillar and don't want to get down, so you grab the Ender Pearl it just dropped by using your Fishing Pole to pull it to you. Yoink!

This seemed to be the most recent thread with this idea. Don't like raising old threads but seems better than spawning numerous threads with the same ideas.

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?"
