I was thinking about some things with the new features available in the minecraft snapshot. The hoppers add a whole new depth to gameplay allows for further automation than we have ever had before. And the dispenser changes to automatically equip you with armor when it dispenses is rather neat as well.
But say that the dispenser that gives you armor is empty. You have to make some more armor to feed the dispenser and reduces the feature of the dispenser equipping your armor to nothing more than a novelty.
And what about minecart systems? You can break a minecart with a cactus and stuff it back into the system with a dispenser alright but what about minecarts with chests, furnaces, or hoppers? When you break those minecarts with your hand or with a cactus the minecart breaks into two parts. The minecart and the chest, furnace, hopper. So when you can't make a fully functional minecart dispenser system for say storage units or smelting factories because you would have to remake the minecart with the chest, furnace, hopper. every single time you wanted to use the system. This puts a great damper on things like large community mail systems.
But I had an idea. What if we had a crafting table that when fueled with something would every few moments or so output the item it has in a saved recipe as long as it was fed the crafting materials it needed? It could be powered on and off with a redstone signal and require fuel for balance as a trade off for automation.
If we had this we could put iron into the thing to make armor to automatically refuel our dispensers we all we would need to worry about is putting iron and fuel into it every once in a while.
Same thing with the minecart systems. We could use this tool to precreate the minecarts with chests, hoppers, or furnaces so we couldn't have to remake it ourselves every time. you could just hit a button and get a minecart with a chest ready to deliver a package through your complex rail system.
I don't have any mockup images or anything but I hope I was able to get the idea across.
I kind of like this idea. Now that we have ways to transport items, an automated crafting table would actually have a good use now. Perhaps make it powered by a redstone signal? So that, like a dispenser, every time it receives a rising-edge pulse, it takes items from its inventory and outputs them?
Oh yeah, I should mention that as well: I think the automated crafting table should have a small inventory so that it can store the necessary items needed to craft the products. That would make it a lot simpler to use, I think, and combined with the redstone pulse feature I mentioned above, could lead to some interesting designs.

Well that's why I thought that it should take fuel of some sort. Maybe glowstone or something like magic energies put it together. it would still require the proper materials to put together. its not like you would be getting stuff for free. There should be a tradeoff for automation.
But you have to admit minecraft gets boring after a while and has a potential to grow. Maybe this crafting table could be made of end game stuff so as not to ruin the spirit of minecraft so much.
My gut instinct goes something like this, "So... You can automate killing and drop harvesting. You can auto-equip items from machines. Now you want something to craft for you too. Would you also like them to bring back experience from natural deaths and give you a way to automate enchanting? Perhaps they can make something to dig and gather ores for you too. Do you even want to actually play the game yourself at all?"
Personally, my feelings on the matter, in case you couldn't tell, are like this. If you want to see the game played without doing the work, watch it on Youtube. There are several great people out there. If you want to build things without the hassle of resource gathering, consider playing in Creative Mode. While some things to make the game easier are fine as a reward for doing well, there comes a point where you are no longer taking an active role in the game. Right now, automation is on the level of rewarding preparedness. What good is a quick-equip station if you have to manually stock it with equipment to auto-fy? Well, suppose you have a bad moment and die deep underground. All your gear and everything you found is down there, and every second counts. You could dig through a chest for gear that you may not even have made, but while you do, the despawn timer is happily ticking away. However, if you were prepared, and made an emergency "quickchange station", you can get on the gear to help you go down after your lost items in an instant, immediately improving the odds of a successful recovery. Moreover, this is of use for mapmakers, who can use it to provide players with exactly what they want them to have in a given situation. The game doesn't need to play itself for you.
All right, then let's get rid of pistons, ocelots, wolves, spawn eggs, hoppers, dispensers, enchanting, most foods, redstone blocks and the End.

The problem is that soon, the only thing that you would have to do in minecraft is push buttons and levers(people are getting lazy in a computer game,XD). Crafting is something I'd rather have manual. Now, a 2x2 automatic crafting machine, that can make simple recipes is fine with me.
i was thinking about the crafting recipe being the same as a dispenser but with a crafting table in the middle and it being controlled by redstone to give you more control

how a person has "fun" is subjective. I just got done building the iron trench in my survival world. I'm all for manual crafting, but I do get a little tired of spending time doing compression and decompression of storage blocks to save space. The super crafting frame mod is great in that respect, but it still requires those in the later portions of the game to face the frustration of moving between inventory management and crafting.

I do not support this idea at all. Only the player should be crafting items.
