When I heard you can now use Quartz as temple building I had this idea practically run me over. It would add a new rewarding building into the Nether to encourage yet more Nether exploration.
Frequency: A little less common as a Nether Fortress and always visibly found as well.
Appearance: The Nether Temple resembles a classic Greco/Roman temple made of Quartz Blocks of all types, including slabs and stairs. They hang from the Nether's ceiling and the bottom most floor is gravel that supports the lava in the temple. Breaking the floor is ill advised, because lava will soon pour over you. There is an entryway leading into a guardian and rewards room. Around the rewards room are smaller chest rooms that involve leaping over floating blocks that are over lava supported by floating gravel. Placing blocks will cause a cascade reaction that makes the lava more exposed. Some rooms instead have floating blocks that have timed lava streams (from overhead Dispensers) that make jumps trickier. All chest will have a good amount of Nether related loot.
The guardian: A dreadful guardian known as the Fire Drake waits for the player here. It resembles a long flying snake made of fire that flies only a couple of blocks above the ground and is easy to hit from ground level. It literally drips fire and any combustible block in its agro range will automatically be ignited. If it melee stikes the player it will also cause burning. The guardian features prominently in the main treasure room. The Fire Drake will also always reappear to make this a renewable fight.
The rewards: Sealed in the middle of the treasure room is a Large Chest inside a cage of Obsidian. There is no way to sneak in without dealing with the guardian. There should be rare loot in the chest should as large amounts of Nether Quartz and other Nether goodies like Netherwart, Blaze Rods, and Wither Skeleton Skulls.
Boss stats:
Health = 50
Attack = 6
Special Abilities = Fire particles drip constantly below one and will ignite anything below it. The Fire Drake doesn't regenerate or break blocks in general, but using combustible blocks to control its movements is a very bad idea, since it will destroy them specifically. It will also heal intead of being damaged from fires, lava, and explosions. It can go over its maximum health, so blasting your way in is ill advised because it will make the Fire Drake stronger.
Drops = In addition to the Nether Temple loot the Fire Drake is also worth some treasure. The Fire Drake will drops 10 Blaze Rods and 2-6 Enchanted Books with max level fire related enchants (such as Fire Protection IV or Flame II).
I very much like the base idea, but it seems that this could be a lot of work. Also i don't like the idea of a new boss, (the ender dragon is really kind of "the boss," and i don't feel that minecraft is a game filled with bosses.)
The boss belongs in a mod, but the temple is a very good idea

It may be "the boss" but its not "the only boss". Personally I think this entire topic is an excellent idea. But the dripping fire should merely be a visual effect. (However the player being set on fire from physical damage from the boss is still great).

Yeah it's a great idea, but "the boss" sounds like something from a mod, not vanilla.

I agree. The temple should have some kind of trap, probably utilizing some new block they add, spikes, maybe. It would also be cool, since Nether Fortresses are going down into the lava, to have these Nether Temples hanging from the Nether's ceiling.
...And if you're going to have a boss, I recommend a big cyclone made out of flaming black heads with white eyes (different from Wither heads though) that shoots fireballs at you.
This looks wonderful! I really support this a lot. A picture of what the Mob would like would help a lot. I would like to visualize what it looks like but how you described everything in your main post looks amazing.
The temple should consist of blaze spawners, a parkore, traps such as fire arrows coming from the walls and little trap doors that can lead you to your doom. The trap doors also may lead you to safe areas where there are beds or chests filled with supplies or diamonds.
There should only be 3-10 of these found in the nether. You should make them rare to find.
I totally support this and I think that it should greatly be implemented. You should really add more info to this. I believe this has potential into becoming a great suggestion into the game. For now I leave you with a thumbs up and great support.

In general, I support, but I think that the spawn rate should be slightly diminished compared to the Nether Fortress, to compensate for the increased visibility.

Your brain is so powerful, it would take a state of the art computer the size of a factory to come even close to matching the processing power.
Traps with new blocks? How about a Dispenser being fed from a Hopper shooting through Lava to cause fire arrows? It's pretty easy to dance around a Jungle Temple's set-up or disarm it. These could be set in more distant walls overlooking overhangs to make them less visible and more hard to get to. The boss' presence setting fire to combustibles could be done without harming the player. It just encourages the player not to just run through a gate after chopping down a tree and spamming wooden planks to get the loot. I like the parkour and traps ideas.

How about a lot of gold? Those Zombie Pigmen seem to be loaded, so they've got to stash it somewhere. Would a possible Nether Star be too much? The Wither drops them, but I feel they should do more than just an ultimate lighthouse.

Nether Temples: Great idea, full support!
Drake Boss: I don't think we need more bosses, at least for now.
How about going half-way? Add a "contructed boss" like FVDisco's type. Ever see his Blaze Boss, Evil Easter Bunny, or Evil Santa? These are massive Redstone contraptions than give you a fight with parkour, traps, and even a boss health meter without actually adding a new mob. He usually makes these using Dispensers filled with Fire Charges and various ways of tageting the player. If he and the crew got together it could be very dramatic. I see that as an intersting change idea.

I've seen those, and they are cool maps, but for vanilla Minecraft... no. After all, you could just cover lava with water, or place blocks to make parkour easier. It would be best to just have a new structure, without a boss.

I just noticed your profile EpicEnderMiner. I agree. The computer version is the best. Lava can't be cooled in the Nether, but block placement would help a bit, but the right Redstone trap could still be used. Problem about adding traps is that many of the best components don't fair to well in the Nether. However, they do say that Snow Golems specifically don't melt in a Nether Fortress. Maybe Nether Temples could specifically be fire-free except when induced? A deadman switch that drops Gravel could be an interesting idea that doesn't burn.

At the end of the month I will fully compile the results of the poll and adjust accordingly. I will note the keep the original boss idea and stats in the post, but lable it as something optional for mods wanting to make the Nether Temple tougher as a suggestion for how. So far traps and some parkour are mostly agreed on, but people are split as to which way to orientate them. Up or down? I would have thought it would come out with more clear results by now, but it's pretty split as of this post. The boss so far looks like it will become a rather nasty surprise in a mod. I'm currently pondering what kind of trap would slow down a player from just digging into the loot instead of the boss. Dispenser room of doom is a serious thought right now, especially after they add an easier BUD Switch Block.

To make a massive temple out of quartz blocks is to just...
You need SO much just for a small house or entry way to have this would make mining for it pointless as once you find one of these your set!

True, except that in the OP it says that these would be rare. Plus Nether Quartz is ridiculously common and to be perfectly honest, should be affected by Fortune enchantments. It's actually as common as Iron Ore, but you only need 4 to make a Block, rather than 9 so you get more than 2x the number of blocks.
I like the idea, but not the boss. I think traps that utilize the new Redstone stuff would fit well. For example, Trapped Chests connected to TNT, Down or Up facing Dispensers dropping Lava or Fire Charges, and that kind of stuff.

I'm going to leave the boss suggestion up for future mods, but I'm currently developing some really nasty non-boss obstacles with the new block dynamics in mind. Let's just say a famous youtuber I like will wish he never uploaded him playing his own map! (Devious laughing!)
