This suggestion is not a wishlist, at least in my opinion. I originally started it as a suggestion to bring the quiver back into Minecraft, but over months and years turned it into a suggestion to improve on ranged equipment. There may be some parts of the topic you support, and there may be others you are not too fond of. If you have any comments, please voice your opinion to help this suggestion grow!
1: The Quiver
Most of us know what the quiver item is, was, or probably never will be- a removed item that stored arrows in it. While it may not seem very useful, it can cut down on inventory space for arrows, leaving you with an extra few slots. How would you craft this item?
If anyone has a better suggestion for the crafting recipe, I'd like to see it.
Picture of the quiver:
So there you have it. A quiver that can store arrows in it. To compensate for the fact that 64 arrows is a staggering amount, it'd be best if the stacks of arrows were limited to 16 arrows per stack, similar to eggs, snowballs, and ender pearls. This makes it more useful to carry the quiver because it can hold more than 16 arrows in its slots, freeing up 4-5 inventory slots for those who like to use bows. The quiver also alternates; this means that it shoots an arrow from the first slot, and moves to the second slot, then third, fourth, etc in a rotating pattern.
Picture of the quiver's slots:
2: New Arrows
These new arrows do not do more damage than the other. Rather, they have different effects that can be used to a player's advantage. Don't worry, there's no diamond arrows or emerald arrows or anything, but the arrows do have some different effects.
Slime Arrow
1. Slime Arrow. Crafted using an arrow and slimeball, duh. When the slime arrow is fired at an enemy, it releases small slime particles that do minuscule amounts of splash damage to any nearby enemies. There is also a 16% chance of a baby slime being spawned when this arrow is fired.
Fire Arrow
2. Fire Arrow. Now I know this seems useless with the flames enchantment, but hear me out. Crafted using coal in place of the flint on an arrow and a blaze rod in place of the stick. The crafting recipe may seem a little OP but its because of what this arrow is capable of doing, plus it fits with the theme. When fired, it lights victims on fire, but also creates light and can set fire to blocks. This arrow cannot be picked up, unike the enchanted version. When paired up with the enchantment, fire arrows drop trails of fire sparks which can harm the player. Yes, this arrow can harm the player when it contacts him/her. A good, but deadly, alternative to the enchantment.
I am going to redo this arrow soon, so most of the information will change.
Undead Arrow
3. Undead Arrow. Crafted using a bone in place of the stick on an arrow. When this arrow is fired, it has a life-steal effect based on how much damage the bow is capable of inflicting. A fully charged bow steals either 1/2 to 1 heart, and this adds up based on the power/punch enchantments present on the bow. This arrow is incapable of stealing more than 3 hearts.
I will be changing some stuff on this arrow soon, mainly the crafting recipe.
Razebomb Arrow
4. Razebomb Arrow. Crafted using gunpowder and an arrow. When it hits anything, it creates a minor explosion that does not destroy blocks. Like a creeper explosion but with mobGriefing turned false.
Blitz Arrow
5. Blitz Arrow. The crafting recipe for this one is sort of whack. It's a redstone in place of flint, gold ingot on one side and iron on other. Why is this? This is because gold and iron are conductors of electricity and redstone is "wire" in the game, so it fits together somewhat nicely in my opinion. 50% chance of striking victims with lightning. If lightning is not used, it will still make a thundering sound when it lands a hit. Watch out for the pigmen!
I might either change this arrow or remove it from this suggestion.
Pictures of different arrows in-game (taken from Hexxit)
From left to right: Blitz arrow, Fire arrow, Slime arrow, and Undead arrow
This is mostly concept art, it is not what I have in mind for the arrows.
3: New Bows and Accesories
Well, this is the newest addition to my suggestion. I have ideas for new bows. Keep in mind, these bows are not strengthy or anything. They have different effects, for example, one of the bows has longer range, another one has arrow effects, another one has extra durability, and another one is more accurate. Here they are.
Long Bow (Undergoing Change)
1. Long Bow: Crafting recipe is below this description. This bow is more durable than the average, daily bow, which upon implementation the old bow will be re-named Short Bow. Why? This bow is not only more durable, but it also shoots farther. This means that the old bow's range will be lowered, to compensate for the new one. The long bow doesn't have any more of a damage tweak. Also since it is bigger and shoots farther, this bow takes a longer time to nock an arrow. Same enchantments as short bow.
Crafting recipe will change soon
Scoped Bow
2. Scoped Bow: The first thing you will need for this bow is a scope, which is crafted like so: By itself, the scope can be used for viewing far distances, such as beyond the render distance. You can start viewing things close up, like 50 blocks away. The more you scroll with your mouse wheel, the farther you can zoom. When the scope item is put with a bow, you can activate it with right click and that also activates your bow notch. While you zoom in, you are also nocking an arrow onto the bow. Crafting goes as such: By the way, compass is in place of scope.
Grapple Hook/Bow
3. Grapple Hook: This was once an arrow that I deleted because of negative response from the community. I decided that I liked it though, so I've brought it back. This bow is, frankly, not a bow. It's more of an extension or accesory like the scope. To make the grapple hook, you need to use an item called the harpoon or hook. It's crafted like so:
The harpoon/hook is almost like a fishing rod, but it actually does damage to its victim. Great for aquatic hunting, especially if fish are added and squids are changed. Back on topic though, when you attach a harpoon to a bow, you get the grapple hook. There is no recipe, just a bow and hook together. When you fire the grapple hook, it has two main functions- when it hits a mob or non-tile entity, if you use the scroll wheel, you can pull the entity to you. If, on the other hand, the hook lands on a block, you can move towards it like a real grapple hook. James-Bondy, I know, lol. Also this bow will have a faster firing rate.
Fishing rod is in place of harpoon

Here's the short bow...
And there's the long bow. The size difference is noticeable if you look for it.

Thanks to everyone who commented for giving your feedback and ideas to help shape this suggestion! We've come a long way since I first posted this, and there's more to come in the future, including enchantments and some tweaks on current items.
I like the slime, redstone, and undead arrows. I feel like the others are either unnecessary or over powered. Instead of the grapple arrow, there should just be a whole new grapple item altogether.
I like the slime, redstone, and undead arrows. I feel like the others are either unnecessary or over powered. Instead of the grapple arrow, there should just be a whole new grapple item altogether.
I added the grapple arrow as a seperate way to hook enemies closer and kill them. Yes, maybe we could make a grapple hook item with the grapple arrow attached to a bow, but that is another idea and I'm not going to post it on my quivers/arrows thread.
I think you need to get rid of half the arrows as there are way too many as of right now, and some of these can be enchantments such as Lightning Aspect. The arrows took the support away from the quiver, try to keep each idea to its own thread.
Thank you for your comment, I will go through and edit my mispellngs (my keyboard was lagging its type) and fix some of the other arrows. As it seems no one likes the idea of the grapple arrow, I will change that into a bow extension item.
Yes, maybe we could make a grapple hook item with the grapple arrow attached to a bow
No thanks. This is what placing blocks under our feet over and over is for. Grappling hooks don't seem very Minecraft-like and the game isn't a James Bond film.

The Unofficial Suggestion Guide - Everything you need to know to not make goofy mistakes in a suggestion! Honestly though, you should really go there.
How about it has a few slots, maybe about 5, which you can access by right-clicking the quiver in your hand, and a 6th slot where you place whatever arrow you want to use. That way you can choose easily. If the stack in the special slot runs out it will automatically choose the next one in line, but you can manually change that if you want.
Also, I think the recipe should be a little more expensive.
Hmm, your idea for a 6th slot confuses me. And no, the recipe will not be anymore expensive because there is no need for one.
Support quiver, and all arrows except: Diamond, grapple, and the poisin in slime arrows.
Grapple arrows are changed to a hook extension and they aere subject to deletion. Diamond arrows are also subject to deletion. I am keeping the poison debuff in slime arrows because slime is sticky and toxic so it should poison the victim.
Most of us know what the quiver item is, was, or probably never will be- a removed item that stored arrows in it. While it may not seem very useful, it can cut down on inventory space for arrows, leaving you with an extra few slots. How would you craft this item?
So there you have it. A quiver that can store arrows in it. The quiver can carry up to 5 stacks of arrows, and it alternates betwen each stack- that is, first, it fires an arrow from the first stack, then one from the second, and so on. The settings for it can be configurable to how you want your arrows to shoot, be it one from each stack, one stack at a time, etc. When you add arrows to the quiver, it goes through different gfx stages. First, it is a quiver empty. When any amount of arrows are added to it from one-full, it says quiver (amount of arrows [one, two, full, etc.] ). This also changes the graphic. With one arrow, your quiver will look as though one arrow sits in it. Fewer than a stack sows a couple arrows, a stack-3 stacks shows many, and 4-full stacks shows a full quiver. That's not all I hve for you, however- what use is the quiver if it cannot hold more kinds of arrows?? Well, there is a balanced quiver, but hey- we want some fun.
Don't be all mad here, like ZOMG THIS GUY WANNA ADD MORE OP ARROWS LIKE TNT ARROW DIAMOND ARROW ARGHHHH because I don't. None of the new arrows, save for one, will do any more amount of damage than another. They all will have different effects though.
1. Slime Arrow. Crafted using an arrow and slimeball, duh. When fired, the slime arrow sinks into its victim and leaves it trapped in one spot. The victim is not trapped forever, though. It can free itself by continuously pressing the forward key. It has a 40% chance of poison for a few seconds, and a 50% chance of slowing the victim once it escpaes the gooey mess.
Too op. No poison, please, and slow the player for 10% that stacks up to 3 times, maybe.
2. Fire Arrow. Now I know this is useless with the flames enchantment, but hear me out. Crafted using coal in place of the flint on an arrow.
5. Undead Arrow. Crafted using a bone in place of the stick on an arrow. When fired at mobs, has a 3% chance of casting wither for 3 seconds. On undead mobs, this arrow does less damage, but has a 10% chance of casting regeneration for 6 seconds.
Interesting, but it seems too complicated.
6. Gold Arrow. Crafted using gold nugget in place of the flint. Deals a weak amount of damage to every mob in game and cannot be retrieved when accidentally fired at the ground- it drops a stick and feather. However, when used on boss mobs, it has a 50% chance of doing extra damage. Has a 1% chance of dropping again when used, both by accident or when it hits a mob. WIP ARROW
Same as above
7. Razebomb Arrow. Crafted using gunpowder and an arrow. When it hits anything, it creates a minor explosion that does not destroy blocks.
I like this arrow
8. Blitz Arrow. Crafted using gold and iron ingots along with an arrow. 100% chance of striking victims with lightning. Watch out for the pigmen
Far too op
9. Diamond Arrow. The only arrow that causes more damage to its victim. Cannot be stacked or retrieved. Crafted using A diamond and nether star along with an arrow. When fired, it can do any amount of damage from 1/2 hearts to 8 hearts. It also has a 5% chance of doing an insta-kill on anything except for ender-dragon and wither. On these bosses, the diamond arrow has a 5% chance of taking out 1/2 health. This arrow is subject to deletion and has been labelled as WIP.
Should be retrievable. I liked it better when it wasn't stackable but did more damage.
I apologize for not having any images or anything, hopefully I can make some soon.

I would love it if you checked out my "about me" page on my profile and looked at my threads I'm always happy to see new posters.
The slime arrow will be changed but I am keeping the poison effect for two seconds. Bltiz arrow's lightning percentage will also change to 20%. Diamond arrow will be made retreiveable.
Thanks for the credit, but why do I have an underscore in my name?
Also there is a similar mod to this with different arrows as I noticed you were asking if people wanted a mod for it. It's called the Elemental Arrows mod.
I like the renamed arrows, although I'm not too sure about Razebomb.
Sorry about the underscore, lol. Fixed.
Elemental Arrows mod? Hmm, I'll have to look in on that.
Razebomb is just something I came up with I will definitely change it in days to come.
Also, can you help me with my signature? I want my banner to link to this thread, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Well for the time being I have kept my signature as is. Check first post for the banner I have created. If anyone can help me attach the link to the image, I would appreciate it very much.
Please quote me when you reply to me, I then get a notification so I know to come back to the thread.
Got it.
And um.
I used the code you pasted in your reply, but it didn't come up properly on the page. I'm really bad with this kind of thing It seems I need full instructions on how to make a banner link.

Says he doesn't want to add in a TNT* arrow or diamond arrow, then goes and suggests adding a TNT* arrow or diamond arrow.
*Your gunpowder arrow is the same thing as TNT, it explodes (granted, it doesn't do any block damage, but it still explodes)
OK, all tomfoolery (Hey, auto-correct actually accepts tomfoolery as a word) aside, I don't want any more arrows in the game, things get complicated, and just having enchants is good enough, and in fact that is how I think arrows should get special effects, by allowing them to get enchanted.
Hey, that is a pretty good idea.
*DISCLAIMER* If anyone feels the need to use the idea above (as defined as "Enchanting arrows") I would very much appreciate credit to Natecraft.
