farming animals is pretty easy. feed em wheat, kill the parents, get food and stuff, wait till the babies grow, breed them, kill them, and the cycle starts over. just keep in a pen and make sure you have a wheat farm.
i propose a new challenge!
instead of finding peacefull cows, sheep, and pigs out in the wilderness, you will find their wild forms.
pigs- boars. boars will be light brown in color with little tusks. they make deeper grunts and are neutral. when attacked, they attack, but only the one you hit. they dont gang up on you. they drop 2-4 pork, alot more then their cute little piggy cousins. they also drop 1 leather and 0-2 bones. try to put a saddle on it, and you will DIE. (they get ed) feed them carrots to turn them into piggers. you cant breed or shepard them.
cows- bulls. bulls will be black, with bigger horns. they make low roars instead of moos. neutral like boars, and wont gang on you. they drop 2-4 beef, 1-3 leather. just like boars, they cant be bred or herded. dont milk it, or they get mad. give them wheat to turn them into some friendly cows.
sheep- rams. rams have big horns. they make louder and deeper sheep noises. neutral, and wont cooperate when killing players. they only do a little damage, but they make up for it in knockbaack. they will send you flying. and yep, you cant farm or herd them. feed them some wheat to turn them into some plushy little lambs. drops 1-3 wool, 0-2 bones, and also 0-2 lamb chops. heals 4 hunger (2 nuggets) raw, and 7 hunger (3 and a half nuggets cooked. regular sheep dont drop it. the one thing they hate is shears.
chickens- grouse. grouse are a lot different then there mammal cousins. they will run away from you like ocelots, unless you crouch with seeds in you hand. the rest is just like getting cats. drops 1 raw chicken and 1-3 feathers. feed the seeds to get some chickens. wont lay eggs.
now this is a cool challenge. but with this, we can do an amazing thing a lot of us miss.
you know how animals used to come and go as they pleased? well these wild animals will do just that! they keep the farming opurtunity open, but you can go and kill them, because they will retaliate, or run away.
also, maybe giant spiders will try to attack farm animals, but not wild ones. another challenge!
id love to hear your feedback. comments, criticisms, tell me!
All it seems like is a pointless additional step to me. Sure you can attack them and get some kind of different drops but all the other drops would be is a food item (and we have more than enough food) and bones, which are easy to get.
The best thing about your suggestion (to me) was making pigs drop bones. And even that seems kind of iffy, because you can use the bones to grow carrots to breed pigs to get bones to grow carrots to... You get the idea.

I didn't agree with your suggestion, so i was going to vote for the second to last option for all of them, but the bottom options are just so tempting!
