This would be so useful! I hate when I'm making a map and have to make a huge bedrock wall which looks really ugly and doesn't look like it fits into the landscape, it's annoying!
The invisible light source I can think of less uses for, but it's still a nice tool for mapmakers.
Also, I apologize if someone's already suggested this (I didn't read through the entire thread) but should there be a block that bans mobs from spawning or coming into a block radius which is determined by a GUI? (Sort of like invisible light source, but when you choose the block radius, it bans mobs instead of emitting light) You can also choose whether you want only hostile mobs banned, all mobs, just bosses ... it would be awesome.
You could add both, Light over Bedrock or the other way
You could put a layer of glass, then a layer of invisible bedrock before that layer
