While I thought that adding beacons was rather cool, there were a few things aspects of it which I think needs improvement.

For one, I don't quite like the fact that beacons can't be turned on and off by redstone. This probably isn't a big problem in any other game mode, but in creative: it would be nice if it could be controlled, therefore allowing for light displays for your buildings.

Another problem is that beacon beams go all the way to the height limit. Once again, this may not be a big problem for any other game modes, but this is a big problems with constructions that have beacons in them, but want to control the height of the beam.

I propose that beacons cannot penetrate bedrock, as bedrock is only available in creative mode, and therefore wouldn't affect any other game mode.

But - you CAN turn beacons on and off. Just put two blocks of just about anything in the path, and the beacon shuts down. A piston could do that.

What I would like to see is a substance that could REFLECT beacon light. Use that w diagonal shapes from Carpenter's Slope mod, and you could shoot beacons in any direction (like the light beams are redirected in PORTAL). Make encircling beacon fences, crazy light shows, etc.
