Woodcutting: I believe that woodcutting is a very essential part of the game and when you cut logs, you should get experience for that. I have noticed that in minecraft you have started to see more and more ways of obtaining experience with every update. In 1.3 we were introduced into mining experience. In 1.4 we will be introduced into breeding and fishing experience. I believe that in 1.5 we should get experience for woodcutting.
The way this would work is that when we chop down a tree, Instead of getting the experience from the logs themselves, we would have a random drop of experience from the leaves. The percentage should be low like 10% or 5% because people can have tree farms and get infinite experience for not doing much. I believe jungle trees should have a lower chance of dropping experience because large jungle trees could give you a large amount of experience and that seem unfair.
Farming: As I said previously, we are seeing more and more ways to get experience and farming is something almost everyone does, as is mining, killing mobs (unless you play on peaceful), and woodcutting. If you have a lot of food, then you don't usually continue to farm. You just ignore the farm and mine or kill mobs. With this, you would still continue to farm. It seems pretty self explanatory but I will explain it anyway.
When You harvest your crops, Such as wheat, melons, pumpkins, etc., You will receive a chance of getting a few experience orbs as a reward. You will not get experience from harvesting sugar cane because you could replant sugar cane and harvest its experience without having to wait for it to grow. Some plants should give more experience than others due to its difficulty. Melons should give the most because they are really of no other use and it usually takes a while to get the seeds from an abandoned mineshaft. Wheat should give the least because it is easy to get, is found in npc villages, and always has a use (food and breeding).
I hope you enjoyed this suggestion and I would really appreciate it if you could give me your support. If you have any ideas on how I could make my suggestion better, please let me know. If you have an idea on how else you could get experience, let me know and I might add it to the suggestion. Thanks for reading!
I disagree because of this:
Ore is not infinite within a given chunk.
Wood and crops, however, can be made within the same chunk infinitely over and over-
This allows you to make infinite xp simply by replanting crops. Theres not much actual work
involved, just right clicking and waiting.
Sorry. You made an original idea but I can't support it on my part. No support.
I don't see how this is different from mob grinders. You can get infinite experience from sitting there. You don't have to even wait much. With farming you have to wait for it to grow. Maybe I should change it to say you don't always get experience from farms and You get less from tree farming. I thought it seems ok because you can get a lot of experience really quickly from killing mobs you find underground and at night. Ever since mining for experience was added they made it a lot easier to get experience. Breeding is something that can be renewable and so is fishing. There is a limit to ores but that is the only way to get experience that is limited. I think that this seems like its very fair. Let me know if there is a way I can make it seem better.
Ok I will go back and make it look better. You have a good point.

While you do have a point that Mob Grinders and breeding follow the same format, trees are such an abundance.
Mob Grinders are difficult. You'd need to find a mob spawner and a perfect spot. Breeding requires wheat, which needs to be farmed, and two animals. Same goes with fishing, you need to go do things before you can acquire it.
Cutting trees, on the other hand, would be incredibly too easy. Start a new world. Spawn in a forest. Chop the trees down. Tons of experience rewarded. Even with this 10% chance, that's for each wood log, so you'd have a 40-50% chance of getting experience from one tree. Way, WAY to easy.
No support. And organize your topic please. It bothers me very much so.

I have organized my topic now so I hope thats better now. I am sorry for its old format. I did state that you wouldn't get the experience from the logs, as it could be used to just place logs and get infinite experience. And even if it was a 50% chance each tree you chopped down, I think that 50% each tree sound pretty fair because it's not like I said the experience orbs are some that give you like 30 levels per experience orb. These would contribute to a very small amount, such as fishing or breeding does. I do agree that you need to work to get the experience from anything else, but I feel with a low chance, it balances out the simplicity of the experience. You also would need to work to get the farm working so I don't see a problem with farming. Maybe the chance should be lowered to a 2% chance or something. Give me ideas on how I can make it better, like a lower chance or just remove the woodcutting part of the post or something. Please help me improve.
What about you got a small amount of XP for Crafting the logs into planks? That way you can't just place & break & place & break the log over and over again.

That sounds good, but I think the leaves makes more sense because you are getting the experience for woodcutting and not for just crafting. Logs are given in the starter chest and you would get experience for that too. You could also just kill someone and steal their logs and get experience for nothing.
I actually support this if the xp reward is low. Chopping trees/ farming wouldn't be a very efficient way of leveling up- fighting mobs should always give you the most.
Additionally, logs or sugar cane could contain a flag (in code) for whether they were generated by growth or placement. That way you would only get experience for the original harvest. That could serve double duty in case they ever want to have floating tree logs decay over time.

I agree that the experience reward should be very low because it is easy. Should it be lower than 10%? I thought it would be hard to make the game register if the stuff was grown or placed so I didn't suggest it. If it wouldn't be hard then I don't see any reason that they couldn't make it like that. Thanks for your support!
It's easy enough to get xp, and just smelting cobblestone has gotten me to level 30 a bunch of times. I'm a bit skeptical, but seeing as how minecraft is becoming more and more noob-friendly, I think it's say this has a good chance of making it in.
