A little idea I had is for ops in survival MP to have the ability to place mob spawners for a variety of mobs in places that are near pitch black and lighting levels would affect to amount of mobs to be spawned.
Say like a skeleton spawners would require a presence of pitch black. Once placed it would spawn a preset number of skeletons and continue spawning them until destroyed and once destroyed it would release like 50 arrows and armor.
And so forth for other spawners.
Oh and a spider spawner would release a diamond sword due to the pure evil and awesomeness of spiders.
Keep in mind that servers are not able to run pathing for an infinite number of monsters.
We're probably better off thinking of ways to make bigger, meaner monsters, rather than just saying "SPAWN OVER 9000 OF THEM LOLOLOL."
For example, like-type monsters could combine, two skeletons combine into a bigger skeleton with a crossbow, two xbow skeles combine into a massive bone golem with a chain which can grapple up cliffs.
Zombies combine into a ghoul that gets some special ability or other, like burrowing during the day rather than burning, and two ghouls combine into a large flesh golem that can dig dirt blocks.
Spiders not so much though. They should make invisible/hard to see web traps though, which you can burn. Though burning it while trapped would be rather unpleasant.

**Red Minecrafter needs food badly!**
"oh boy, spiders!"
*dies*
