Im adding these This thread because I feel these Topics are similar enough to each other to not warrant two threads. If people don't like his Idea i will change it back, but until that happens please Discuss both Ocean and Spawn BIomes in this thread.
New edit: just added the thread " lets talk about how we can improve Swamp biomes" it is found here http://www.minecraft...e-swamp-biomes/ . please take a look if your would like.

Lets talk about how we can improve Ocean Biomes.
Minecraft Oceans are one of the many great wonders of minecraft. One of my favorite things in minecraft is a sunset on the open ocean, but once you start to explore the oceans you quickly find out that oceans are very boring and empty. I mean very rarely you will get a underwater ravine and inside they maybe a abandon mineshaft, but this is the extent of that can be found in this vast empty space.
Now don't get me wrong. I understand that Ocean are in real life very vast and open, but right now they are so barren that they feel lifeless. i mean all we get are the random Squid and mushroom Biomes.
So here is what I want to do. Lets discuss what we as a player base what we want to see in the Oceans. What you like about them. What your hate about them. Ideas for changes. After we get a lot of Ideas I'll make a thread in the suggestion forum with all the input and new Ideas.
My ideas will be in the post below this to start things off
Let the discussion begin!
Well I will start this thread off I guess.
1. Changes to Squid by:firesflame4
One of the easiest things I think should be changed is that unlike most other passive mobs Squid are not persistent( are able to despawn) and can not breed. If any of your were around for 1.5, you remember that Squid were one of the first mobs that were persistent. Since they did not despawn they were limited to 5 squid per chunk. In 1.6 this was changed to make squid like all other mobs at the time and also because people complained that squids were "hard to find". But now since All passive Mobs are persistent we should change Squid back to this. Next since Squid persistent I would like to be able to breed Squid, maybe using fish as its food to breed. Last i would like to add more uses for Ink. maybe Ink could be used in a sort of blindless Potion.
2. Addition of Shipwrecks and lighthouses by:firesflame4 and Others
Next I would like to see Ocean Biomes get their own unique Structure. I think the easiest Idea( and most thought of) would be a Ship Wreck. These could generate in Two places. On beaches / in water next to beaches and completely underwater. Ship wrecks on and near beaches would be only partially under water. these would also be partially buried in sand( run aground). Ones completely under water would be flooded inside and not buried as much. Inside the Ship Would be a Chest with loot inside of it. also maybe dispensers ( cannons) with fire charges inside of them. This would give a reason for the player to look for Islands and explore the bottom of the Ocean.
also people have also started they want abandon lighthouses as a structure
New lighthouse design
Light off
light on
here is a photobucket gallery of a beached ship and also a lighthouse
Coral has been something that has been talked about many times since minecraft has been around, but it has had many problems. The main problem Jeb has had with implementing it is that he isn't able to get one block to look like how diverse coral can be. The only solution i can think of to make Coral diverse is to a "Rock Entity"( Bases on ether Limestone or Smooth Stone) that Coral will Spawn and be able to grow on. This will allow for many type of Coral to be created in the game and not having to use a block to make all Coral. Also this will let Coral seem alive as since the Coral is " part of the entity" they could move "with the water". Also one of the Coral "Plants" could become the potion Ingredient for underwater breathing.
seaweed should also be added to all bodys of water
4. More water Mobs by:firesflame4
It has been Said many times they we need more water Mobs. We all know that fish are still wanted greatly, but I want to talk about other water mobs. Mobs that would Not only make the Ocean a easier Biome to start a world in( on a Island), but also add a feeling of life to the ocean.
A. Walrus
Just a Mob I feel would fit into the minecraft world and the Ocean Biome. This Passive Mob would be like the Pig/ Cow of the Ocean Biome. These mobs would spawn on Beaches or in 1 block high water neer beaches. They would enter and leave the water during the day randomly, but always leave the water at night. On land they would be slow and kinda clumsy. In water they would be much faster and more agile. This Mob would drop meat of some kind and its equivalent of leather. This mob would be persistent and Breed and lured only on land and by using raw fish.
added the difference between male walrus and female/ baby walrus
B. Kronosaurus
Edit: This idea has become every unpopular, but I'm still going to leave it here for funs sake.
Next on my List is a blast from the past. If your don't know that a Kronosaurus is take at look at its wiki here--> http://en.wikipedia....iki/Kronosaurus. I think that this would be a great neutral Persistent Mob for the Ocean. I feel like this should spawn by coral and ship wrecks and be limited to one- three naturally spawned per chunk. Like all neutral mabs if attacks they will attack you back, but it has other behaviors too. The first thing it will do is if you cast a fishing pole by were one is and you start to caught a fish it will "attack the fish" taking the fish and making the pole lose 25-50% of its durability. next, if you are in a boat ( moving or not moving) it swim up to the boat. If your are moving it will Swim alongside the Boat till you stop or it "gets bored". If you are not moving it will lift its head out of the water. If you don't have raw fish on you it will Swim away. if you do have fish on you it will want one. you can give it a fish my Right clicking it. This will stop it form attacking your fishing pole for a set amount of time. if you don't feed it a fish it will get mad( maybe on hard breaking your boat and attacking you). they can be lured with raw fish.
C. Whale
Sure this is not the most Original Idea, but I feel that this would make a great addition to Oceans. Whales Would be a Persistent passive Mob that would spawn in the open ocean. They would Spawn in groups of 2-6 and are limited to 6 a chunk. Whales stay together with there group( "pod"). Never going too far away from each other. overtime if there is less then 6 Whales in its Pod they will Breed until the Max amount of 6 is met. Whales only breed every 4-6 minecraft days and after they have eaten a Squid. A Pod of Whales consists of 4 adult whales and 2 babies. If there are already 4 adult whales in a Pod the baby whales will not grow up. Baby whales will only grow up if they are needed to for breeding. Whales have large amounts of health and take a long time to kill, but don't attack the player( they run). Whales drop 3-12 Meat( whale version of meat) and 3-12 Bones. the combined total will never go over 20 items.
D. Fish
Final I'm going to add how i think fish should be to the Op.
Fish have always been in minecraft as a item but never as a Mob. i feel that fish would Greatly improve Oceans by making them feel even more alive, but i want fish to not be one single mob.
my solution to this is to not only make 2 fish models but also make the models have multiple sizes and textures. The models( seen below) are 2 common styles of fish. The top one is the a more streamline fish body( pike, bass, koi, Ect,) while the bottom one is more Square shaped( angelfish, some goldfish, many tropocal fish). If we take these 2 models and not only change the sizes but also the textures, we can make a very diverse fish population.
Next I'm doing to address how fishing changes with the addition of fish. unlike how fishing works now. you will be catching the fish more itself instead of just getting the item. when you throw your bobber, Fish in the area will be attracted to it. Eventually the fish will take the bait. if you pull it our of the water then you will get un item called a "live fish" . If u do nothing to the fish for 1 minute it will turn into a Raw fish, but if you put a bucket of water and a "live fish" into your crafting table you will get a "fish in a Bucket". This is how you can keep fish Alive after you caught them. If you use the "fish in a Bucket on a water block it will place the fish that you caught into the water( and let it live as long as there is enough water for it to fit into). This fish will no longer Despawn and no longer go after bobbers. It can be picked back up if clicked with a bucket of water. If you place a "fish in a Bucket" into your crafting table it will get a "live fish" back along with a Empty bucket. If you kill a fish my bringing its health to 0 it will drop raw fish.
Models that could be made with small changed to Current models
also aded ideas for ray models
E. Snails. Many people. (model by me)
People have been saying that want snails so i made a model
They will be about the size of the bats of not a little smaller. found underwater/ on beaches. drop shells that can be made inso shell blocks
F.Sea Turtles: by me
Currently no uses ideas. please feel free to give me some
G.penguins: by me
only spawn in snow biomes that border Oceans
source of eggs in snowbiomes
H. Seagulls: model by me, idea by many people.
People would like to see a seagull as an aesthetic mob like bats.
so I made a model. if we really need to add a use. they ( like penguins) could be a source of eggs.
I.New Mob Size Charts.
J. Ocean Mob Interactions.
Like some of the land Mobs (Wolves & Sheep, Cats & Chickens. Villagers and Iron golems) Ocean mobs will have interactions with each other.
First I wil Explain the Mob food Chain.
Fish ---Eaten By----> Walrus
Fish ---Eaten By----> Squid ---Eaten By---->Whale
Fish ---Eaten By----> Kronosarus
Kronosaurs, Squid and Walruses( while in water) will hunt fish when that are able to bread. after "catching" a fish that will be put into "breeding mode". then they will bread with other mobs that that are in "breeding mode".
If a whale is able to bread it will Hunt Squid. After "catching" a Squid it will enter Breeding Mode and will breed with other Whales that are in "breeding Mode"
Squid, Walruses and Kronosaurus will not approach whales, but will now flee when one approaches them.
Fish will be drawn to Whales as they scare away the Mobs that eat them.
5. Underwater Terrein generation by: Metalwario, ghost_warlock, Spitzer, Sefirah and more.
From what I have been seeing people want changes in underwater Terrain generation. The first problem people are having a problem with is what the Ocean floor is made out of. It is very splotchy. and feel very patched together. also besides the random underwater ravines, underwater terrain itself is very boring. Things could be added here.
6. Volcano / tropical Island Biome by:Buzeebuzeesmap
But I think that waht should be added is Volcanic/ tropical Islands!
These would be humungous mountains of stone with lava spewing out the top, and the area sorrounding it would be much like the jungle biome. They contain tropical, which are a new tree with leaves that spread way out in spikes. There would be a new type of leaf, wich would appear to be made of spikes. The logs would look like jungle logs, but with bands of a slightly lighter color at the top and bottom. Palm trees would have a 20% chance of spawning with Bananas.
Bananas spawn in bunches which can drop 2-5 bananas on the side of tropical trees. Bananas would restore one hunger, with zero saturation.
I also think that there should be more islands. The islands would be made of sand and clay, and would be slightly dome-shaped. The islands would be covered in tropical.
my main idea, a seaweed, or more specifically kelp. Kelp would sort of be like underwater vines, only growing upwards. There would be two kinds of kelp- the common green kelp, which would do nothing other then block line of sight and occasionally release an air bubble, and red kelp, which would behave more like an underwater cobweb. Kelp would normally only grow four-six blocks from the sea floor, but within the kelp forest biome it would spawn in large quantities and be able to grow infinitely tall.
Below is Ideas for my "Lets Talk About How We Can Improve Swamp Biomes. " thread. Im adding these This thread because I feel these Topics are similar enough to each other to not warrant two threads. If people don't like his Idea i will change it back, but until that happens please Discuss both Ocean and Spawn BIomes in this thread.
Lets Talk About How We Can Improve Swamp Biomes.
As of recently Swamp biomes have gotten a few upgrades. These addition if you don't know them are slimes spawn at night in them and witches and there Huts. I think these things are going in the right direction not i still feel as if Swamps still need some improvements.
So here is what I want to do. Lets discuss what we as a player base what we want to see in the Swamps. What you like about them. What your hate about them. Ideas for changes. when a good and well thought out idea is added, I'll add it to the Op
So as in my other thread i will get this started.
1. Lily pad improvement and flower farming by: firesflame4
As of right now Lily pads are only found in Swamp biomes, but they do not have a read use. So my idea is to make it so flowers " grow" on top of lily pads. this would do 2 things.
1. make flowers( probably roses but maybe both) or maybe a new flower( lily) growable without bonemeal.
2. add a small splash of much needed color to Swamp biomes.
You must use shears on the lily pad to get the flower to drop.
2. Improved swamp water bottom generation by firesflame4.
not sure how we could do it but as of right now they are almost as ugly as Ocean floors.
IMHO i think removing dirt and leaving clay and sand would improve its look greatly.
please post more ideas below.
3.Willow trees By firesflame4
Willows are very iconic as a swamp tree, but I feel the only way to pull of something like this would have to be similar to the size of a large jungle tree.( in amount of wood not height)
maybe this could be a very rare tree that spawns in Swamps.
this could also be a new tree if needed.
4. Mobs
As in my last thread I'll be posting all mob ideas in one section. please feel free to add more mobs and ideas.
A. Giant Salamanders By: firesflame4
I feel this passive mob would be a great addition to minecraft. They would spawn in or close to water. During the day they sit in the water and move very little. At night they come out of the water to "hunt". salamanders at night will kill all bug type mobs in the game. This includes Spiders, Cave Spiders, silver fish Snails and dragonflies ( Snails and dragonflies suggested below). salamanders is immune to damage from " insect mobs" ( including poison). They can be put into breeding mode by feeding them spider Eyes, but they will not produce a baby mob unless they are in the water. This is because the baby mob salamanders are tadpoles. (their model is shown below.) tadpoles( both forms) can not leave water. This mobs takes twice the amount of time to turn into a adult. This is because it it has a middle form that takes the same amount of time to live threw before becoming adults. This mob when killed drops a Salamander Eye. This can be used as a ingredient for brewing a Poison resist / anti- poison potion( makes you immune to poison).
B. Cranes By: firesflame4
Found in and around shallow swamp water. produces eggs like chicken. Sometimes will dip its head into the water as if its hunting for fish. 85% aesthetic mob. model below.
C. snails by: firesflame4
Idea from my Ocean thread that would also work well in swamps
They will be about the size of the bats of not a little smaller. found underwater and and blocks close to water. drop shells that can be made inso shell blocks
D. Dragonflies By: firesflame4
a 100% aesthetic mob like bats. would add a lot of swamp y feel to swamps
E. turtles, Crocs/ alligators, Snakes , Ect.
I feel all of these mobs could fit into minecraft swamps very well ( besides maybe crocs and alligators), but there are countless amounts of Mods and suggestions that have said to add them/ added them. so i will mention that should be added, but I will not go into detail about them.
5. Swamp River Technical Biome by: Kholdstare
Making "swamp rivers" that spawn in the place of regular rivers would also fix some water color issues.
I think the Swampy River sub-biome is a good idea, it will be good in jungles too because the water and grass colour will suit it more, and it can have lilypads.
Now it's your turn. please feel free to use this thread to discuss and throw around ideas about how we can improve swamp Biomes.
I think one of the things that could improve the ocean biomes is the terrain going on under the ocean.
It just feels ugly looking, these blotches of sand, dirt, and the occasional clay patch. It looks very messy, and could use some cleaning up. Older terrain generation would have sand that was smoothed out near the coast, and the bottoms were made of dirt. And it looked nice to me. I'm not saying "Go back to the old terrain" at all. But the blotches of sand and dirt need smoothed out a lot. It's an eyesore.
Some plant life going on underwater, like coral reefs and seaweed, would be great as well, and it would give more things to look at. Perhaps you could harvest it somehow and use it as decoration in your home perhaps.
More terrain landscape like trenches, random treasure islands, water mobs (I don't mind any mob as long as it is logical).
But I really think Mojang should focus on improving the current Terrain generation before improving Ocean biomes itself. Certainly, ocean biomes lack many things compared to other biomes, but if the terrain generation is still buggy, adding more stuff in will just screw things up even more.
And water civilisations!!! (Just kidding! Was thinking about Star Wars LOL!)
I do like the idea of shipwrecks. More generated structures are always cool to me lol.
Just make sure you have a few air blocks that spawn there as well, otherwise exploring them might not be a good idea.
I think oceans aren't deep enough. It's actually really difficult to find a place in a typical ocean where you can't see an underwater mountain reaching up nearly to the surface, which kind of puts a hurt in your ship/floating platform's scenery. Also, the water is too murky.

I don't know, I've seen some oceans that are fairly deep.
The sunken ship structure doesn't need to be all that elaborate, nor detailed. Hell, it could only be just half the ship, and it would be enough. As for the murky water, you are right on that part. The water is a bit hard to see through to the bottom. If you're in a boat, however, you can hit F5 and re-position the camera to where you can see clearly underwater though.
I think sand flooring is some areas would be good. they only think is they all seafloor is not sand. some is dirt others clay. so if we can find a nice happy solution it would be nice. I do think it needs to be changed tho. Sharks are a little over done but if they implement them correctly it till be fine.

Am I the only one who like the current terrain generation and doesn't have any problems with it? Underwater ravines kinda take the place of trenches. i always like more mobs. I will say out of all the biomes Oceans have the least in them. and i feel adding thing wont effects bugs as much( look at desert and jungle temples).
I do like the idea of shipwrecks. More generated structures are always cool to me lol. Just make sure you have a few air blocks that spawn there as well, otherwise exploring them might not be a good idea.
well you can always place blocks inside/ outside the ship to get air. the main reason why I say no air is it adds a bit of difficulty and danger to exploring the ships

I think with they change to the lighting engine the could help the water lighting. maybe have light penetrate up to a certain point. i know night vision potions make water very easy to see in.

Oceans are useful to me. It's the only surface apart from mushroom biomes that I can build on without being totally surrounded by mobs at night. And no, I don't want to make 4000 torches and light up the entire wilderness.

Did I understood right if I tell you wanted me to tell why?
Because they are useless. There's nothing special about them, no villages, no temples, nothing! They aren't special at all. And why should they be removed instead of just leaving them there? Because there are a lot of other biomes that are somehow cool and useless, and atleast you can build on them without the surrounding looking aboslute ****.
That's why.
Should we remove Oceans from earth too? Why remove something when we can make it better. in your logic since the End and Nether suffer the same problem( to lesser degrees )we should remove them too?
They should definitely change the ocean floor. It's often too shallow, or has underwater mountains. That's not realistic, nor is it good looking. It should be deeper and with less height variation. Also, the ugly splotches of clay and dirt need to be changed so it looks smoother. I really like the shipwreck idea though. That would be awesome. Get on it Mojang! :DOh, and to keep the ocean from being too boring if it did have the lessened height variation, and further depth, the underwater ravines would be awesome, but also I'd like to see underwater caves. A new mob could live in those caves too.

Guess I'd need to invest in some respiration enchantments lol.
Might be cool to have a few chests inside the sunken ships as well. Maybe some gold nuggets/ingots, the occasional, but rare, diamond, some iron, and perhaps some food/bones.
Agree with you. I don't really use the oceon biome to its fullest extent. I use it as a water source and that's it. We need more mobs, a better infrustructure and etc. It's bland at the moment ;(

Agreed. With the possible exception of swamp biomes, the blotches make everything ugly.
Also, I think that structures that already generate in oceans (ie. mineshafts) are very broken and ugly.

Fish ---Eaten By----> Walrus
Fish ---Eaten By----> Squid ---Eaten By---->Whale
Fish ---Eaten By----> Kronosarus
7. kelp forests in Oceans By; Vermillion
Now it's your turn. please feel free to use this thread to discuss and throw around ideas about how we can improve swamp Biomes.
thanks for reading
I do agree with the Floor being changed but idk what i would like it to be changed to yet.
what do you all think?
Sharks.
Check out the Fantasy City Build Challenge - it's pretty amazing!
Just make sure you have a few air blocks that spawn there as well, otherwise exploring them might not be a good idea.
This is a thread why how to improve Oceans. If you think they should be removed, attest say why.
I think sand flooring is some areas would be good. they only think is they all seafloor is not sand. some is dirt others clay. so if we can find a nice happy solution it would be nice. I do think it needs to be changed tho. Sharks are a little over done but if they implement them correctly it till be fine.
it happens when a ravine( found on this page of the minecraft wiki http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Cavern) is generated underwater.
Am I the only one who like the current terrain generation and doesn't have any problems with it? Underwater ravines kinda take the place of trenches. i always like more mobs. I will say out of all the biomes Oceans have the least in them. and i feel adding thing wont effects bugs as much( look at desert and jungle temples).
well you can always place blocks inside/ outside the ship to get air. the main reason why I say no air is it adds a bit of difficulty and danger to exploring the ships
I think with they change to the lighting engine the could help the water lighting. maybe have light penetrate up to a certain point. i know night vision potions make water very easy to see in.
Should we remove Oceans from earth too? Why remove something when we can make it better. in your logic since the End and Nether suffer the same problem( to lesser degrees )we should remove them too?
this make me laugh :P. i love narwhals, maybe as a rare whale mob spawn. maybe used to replace whales lol :P,
Guess I'd need to invest in some respiration enchantments lol.
Might be cool to have a few chests inside the sunken ships as well. Maybe some gold nuggets/ingots, the occasional, but rare, diamond, some iron, and perhaps some food/bones.
Agreed. With the possible exception of swamp biomes, the blotches make everything ugly.
Also, I think that structures that already generate in oceans (ie. mineshafts) are very broken and ugly.
Swamp biomes are the worst offenders! They're already fairly ugly and useless to me, but with the splotches that just gets turned up to 11.
yea thats what i meant by Loot :P.
yea i would like sponges to be available.
